Hello fellas!
I’ve got a simple question, don’t expect some essay coming from me now, as usual hehe. 
Is the Thrall Pot a thing still? Easier put, do I even NEED it anymore (official Server) or can I just scrap it and use the space otherwise?
If Thralls still (?) don’t need to eat I can spare all the Mats like meat and stuff for my travels.
So: do Thralls starve if there is NO pot?

Follower starvation has not been in the game since 2019.
The pot and feed box now only exist as leftovers of a long-removed system that players still find some use in as a poor-man’s fridge or healing distribution.

The thrall pot distributes food to your thralls in range. That can be helpful to keep them healing during a purge (or possibly in PvP). One can also put food into their inventory directly.
Using it as an alternative to the fridge is a bit dangerous, as it seems to distribute the food put in to thralls in unexpected ways. I found thralls with their full inventory filled with various food items, slowly rotting away in their bag. The pot was changed recently, though, so maybe that’s not a thing anymore. Still, I only put gruel into it and any more elaborate food into a separate fridge.

I use the thrall pot for general storage. Thralls will take anything that is in the the pot irrespective of whether they can eat it or not, so I always have cooked meat or gruel in the first slot.
And if there are barkeep nearby he/she will take a lot. So put something to every barkeeps 5 inventory slots to prevent it happening.

Additional option if you do want to use feed trough as a ‘fridge’ - if you have admin access (ie singleplayer or private server) you can set the range for the feed trough down to a minimum (1 block) and stick it off in a corner of the base. That way none of your pets will take anything out of it unless you actively take them right up close to it. (Not sure if that also works for the thrall pot - I’ve never actually tried it…)
