Thrall Weapon Swapping Mid Combat

Game mode: Online Private
Type of issue: Bug
Server type: PvE
Region: US

I’ve been getting an error message when trying to swap thrall weapons in combat. Something along the lines of ‘That item cannot be moved’. It doesn’t always give an error message, most of the time it doesn’t but the weapon won’t change nor can the equipped weapon simply be removed from the thrall. Prior to 2.4 I could swap weapons in combat while rarely having an issue. Now it seems that if a thrall is in the middle of an animation (attacking, blocking, etc.) then the weapon won’t swap and can’t be removed. It also won’t queue up to change when the animation is complete and necessitates spamming move commands to try to disengage the thrall in order to perform a weapon swap or trying to time it between thrall attacks. I’ve experienced it trying to swap a truncheon to a thrall, trying to swap a 2h to a thrall that was having problems hitting a large mob with a small 1h melee weapon, and I’ve had a thrall get stuck in the blocking stance and could not remove the shield. For the last one the only thing I could do was kill the mobs I was engaged with to break the thrall out of blocking stance when dropping combat. Considering the nature of animation locking that happened in 2.4 I was curious whether this was intended or a bug.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. The easiest way to verify this is happening is to spawn a bunch of archers while having a thrall using a shield.
  2. Agro them to the thrall.
  3. Wait for the thrall to get stuck in the block stance and try to remove the shield while it’s standing there blocking.
  4. Alternatively send a thrall into combat and try to remove the weapon while mid animation.

Maybe they implemented that change to prevent the weapon from being removed when the Thrall was swinging it, doing that caused a werid bug that prevented the Thrall from attacking at all! it was only fixed after the server restarted

What I do is order the thrall to stop completely (double press E or selecting the stop hand on the command wheel) switch the weapon, then order the trahll to attack or go back

it works pretty well so far, never had and issue

Possibly, though I didn’t see anything in patch notes regarding the matter. Your idea about using the stop command was what I was thinking as an alternative. It takes a little more time to do but keybinding it would ensure that the thrall doesn’t kill something I want knocked out. I was reporting in the case that it was an unintended consequence of the changes to player weapon swapping.
