Thralls and pets get stuck too easily since the update

Game mode: Any
Problem: Bug
Region: Any

This likely affects thralls and pets across all platforms. Since Update 41, they get stuck on terrain or “confused” about how to path to you, far too easily. It used to be that a core part of their AI seemed to be “when in doubt, teleport to the player”. Now, there seems to be frequent conditions where it believes that the thrall or pet should be able to move normally to you, but can’t, and instead of teleporting, it just stands there, dazed and confused.

This is particularly a problem when teleporting or zoning in, and the pet or thrall is not right next to you at the time. They’ll teleport with you if they’re within a few meters of you. If they’re a distance away and trying to run to you (because that’s what they’re more inclined to do now), and you teleport, they just get confused, stop in their tracks and do nothing.

A lot of the AI changes were great, but the old mechanism of teleporting to you when they can’t get to you in a few seconds really needs to be put back in place. Because there’s just too many ways for them to get hung up on terrain, stuck in parts of dungeons or lost after you zone/teleport.

Steps on how to reproduce issue:

  1. Take a thrall to a dungeon
  2. Get thrall stuck
  3. Move far away from thrall, thrall will not teleport
  4. Teleport or zone out while thrall is stuck, thrall will not teleport
