So… My thralls take their food, sometimes it spoils, and they count the putrid meat as food. Problem is they don’t seem to be eating it. As long as it’s in their inventory they won’t take more food, and most of them were near starved when I noticed.
Question is, how do they decide when to eat? When they are starved they eat, or when a little hungry? If it’s when the food meter is empty, I guess they would have just eaten the putrid meat and continued on? Otherwise we have a problem Huston….
hi, in my game i have the default (7d) setting, and thralls start taking food to keep it above that, depending on what i have in the thrall pot. sometimes i make smaller stacks and they seem to take 1 stack.
i usually go around inspecting thralls, as soon as theres a fight, or from time to time, to check their health etc, and often find spoiled food on them. (usually their inventory space adds another (2nd) row if needed though, but i think it only lets us manually fill up 1 row).
maybe a new feature could be added to the game, that simply has all thralls putting their spoiled meat into the thrall pot? this way, we can then see it in the pot, and pick up stacks of it, for use in other ways, like in the Fluid Press or Composting etc, and even pets.
(have you tried a test, where the only food available is spoiled meat? i wonder if they will eat it)
If I understand what’s going on, they WILL in fact eat the spoiled meat, but it’s nutritional value is so low they get very little from it.
Also, I believe the timer indicates when they will eat next. So when they eat the spoiled meat, if only gives them a little bump in their food level, and the timer will be short. With good food being eaten, they get a full food indicator, and the timer would be fully reset.
This is a guess based on removing the spoiled meat from the thrall reduces the time remaining. That being the case means they will in fact eat it, but it gives so little value they only get a short amount of time from it.
Also, I’m quite sure they will not be in danger of starving so long as the thrall pot still has food. They will just finish off their spoiled meat and grab what’s next in the pot. HOWEVER!!! In the case of the pet’s feed box, pets only take the first item in the list (unless you set exclusive food, then mine don’t want to take anything lol) That said, be sure your thrall pot never has putrid meat as the first item if you don’t want them to take it.
