This bug has always been present to the point there is a mod that fixed it years ago on PC. Reality is that the terrain has slight openings in the geometry that would be far too tedious to fix and find or they load up at slightly different coordinates partially underground and fall through for whatever reason. Parts of the undermesh have places for them to fall and some do not so they will fall and go beyond the loading barrier below that auto teleports players to the broken highway. Some areas don’t render anything in them under the map as well leaving them invisible, I think they should have anything that falls below the map auto teleport back above the geometry like in other games where it sends even objects back to the surface especially with thralls you are dragging.

I’m sure you’re right, but it only started for me within the last couple of updates (same time as thralls started their new habit of wandering around as I return to render range - I assumed they were related). Out of curiosity, do you happen to know which mod fixed it? They’re behaving better after 2.6 than they were on 2.5, but I’m still having a few issues, so it might be good to give it a try.

According to my experiments and observations, thralls and pets fall through textures only in natural landscapes. Moreover, the probability increases sharply if these are slopes, if there are irregularities, if there are stones nearby, etc.

Hello, thank you for the report. Our team is aware of this issue and they are working on a fix.

Please let us know if you encounter any other issues.

Were you around for the bug where hitting a large object with a pickaxe would drop your character thought the mesh and kill you?
Fun times that one.

The surface has always had some issues. As I understand it, it’s mostly unavoidable given the engine being used and variety of textures and mesh points applied. Point of fact, 'sploiting that to build unassailable bases has long been a blight in PvP.

While I have noticed the integrity of the mesh fluctuates with updates, I would rate the current state on Siptah at better than Average and in Exiled Lands, on the other side of median from my experience…
I am curious if the troubleshooting team will address this by working the mesh over more or if they will instead try adding a bounce up from under the mesh.

That one was before my time (or at least before my time on the forums and not something I encountered in singleplayer).

Thinking about it, that pretty much matches my experience as well. And may add further explanation to why I only started noticing the issue more recently - before that I was on Siptah (and I think Savage Wilds before that, so I was probably away from the Exiled Lands for a chunk of time). Certainly I only started encountering the problem after I returned to EL, so maybe 2.5 came out soon enough after my return that I simply hadn’t had the problem yet.

I did actually manage to fall through the mesh on Siptah at one point - but that was my own fault. I dismounted my horse too close to a rock and wound up trapped between them, in a position where I couldn’t move the horse anywhere. Since it was singleplayer, I eventually gave up and used ghost mode to get out, but then wanted to check something and meant to open the horse’s inventory but wound up mounting instead. Somehow, me being in ghost mode on top of the horse led to both of us falling through the mesh and continuing to fall uncontrollably downwards

Before update 2.5, this was not the case at all, neither in EL, nor in Siptah, at least I never encountered it in a year of playing. 2.5 met at Siptah, and in the first days lost 5 thralls and pets. And now I returned to EL, and there is the same problem. So this is the blame for update 2.5. :rage:

I have had this problem twice on my own server with thralls undermeshing. First time I recalled them, second time I ghosted and found them under the map.

One way to fix this might be to have an option in the follower screen to ask a thrall to follow you there. This would only work on nearby thralls so you have to be in the area. The follower screen currently highlights which thralls are near you, so fingers crossed this could work.

I would also like to see on the follower screen a way to set behaviors, attitudes and engagement distances en mass. Rather than doing each one individually.

that’s just what I need as my settings are generalized.
