Have you tried it out yourself or have you just replied for the pure intent of opposing to what I said?
It will definitely work since once you have disabled all thrall interactable items, they will just forever stand still where you placed them and will not open any doors since they have nowhere to go. Try it out yourself and if you still have thralls roaming (except for priests, since you appearently can’t switch off shrines and altars) then I‘d bet a considerable amount on that you have missed some interactables (could be a fireplace or a large crate or so). Also of course all bars in reachable distances have to be switched off…
They will open doors as long as there are some.
And yes, i have tried it out. That is why this at the moment, at least for me, is the only viable workaround.
Ehy would I want to just oppose what you said, I don’t even know you
One thing that seems like it fixed this issue, at least for me. Make sure you have enough space around beds so the thralls can walk for all sides. I did this change two weeks ago and since then I have not lost any thrall.
Sadly thralls keep dying. Official US Siptah Server #6111, i’ve lost 6 thralls during last week (starting December 13), day by day, last one unexpectedly died today. No strong predators near, no foul play suspected.
It angers me to lose named thralls (bladesmith for example) out of blue, they aren’t that easily replaceable and it is hard to find motivation to keep them leveling because results are unpredictable.
there is a couple pointers that will help you not loose thralls,
i have not lost a single one after i made this changes.
have a thrall pot or several (Depending on base size) full with food, (gruel works for me)
never pick up benches, (you can move them around) but if the bench is moved the thrall might not know what to do and then go to 0,0.0 to die.
it is important to make sure there is sufficient beds , cooking camps, chairs, and even manequins, and large crates, same with water sources. once there is enough , for everyone everywhere, you will should be fine.
this obviously needs a lot of work but this has worked really well for me. not a single cuasualty with about 20 + crafters doing their own thing.
I started a new playthrough October 17 on an Official PVP server, new toon, no BV.
I constructed my base immediately with 3 floors, second floor inaccessible other than elevator, 3rd floor only hatch door. 3rd floor I gradually placed the crafters as I acquired them.
Turned off thrall use on all benches, needs and anything else possible that allows thrall interaction.
Have 1 bed, 1 campfire, no chair or thrall pot. All required benches and stations for PVP gameplay on second and 1st floors.
Nothing outside of my base that is interactive.
They stay unmoving on the 3rd floor and I have not lost 1 thrall.
But I also HEAVILY tested and broke living settlements in multiple ways in Beta so I was already familiar with making them stay put. This is not how most people play the game and especially if you want to experience the new Living Settlements feature.
The main thing is cutting off their pathing and ensuring there’s nothing within their proximity they can instance to. Sometimes it works to simply disable thrall use, sometimes it doesn’t. I did all.
It isn’t a solution. It isn’t even a workaround.
Living settlements do require a lot of bug fixing and additional player control.
I’m sorry y’all on officials have to go through this. At least private servers have the option to turn off the feature. I’d like to experience a working version of this but since there isn’t one, it’s off for me.
I’d love for the devs to actually talk to us and give some insight into this mess but it seems like we’re stuck with it for an indefinite period of time (or forever, if the falling into the floor bug and the inventory issues being any indication).
It’s probably not that they don’t care, but more so they don’t know how to fix it (without messing up something else in the process). The Living Settlement was their crowning glory for the AoH Chapter. It was a massive screw-up even before official release (ie the Beta).
The LS was turned off once, then back on when they thought they had fixed it. To turn it off again would mean that they would have to admit that they have screwed up big time. That ain’t never gonna happen. We are stuck with this mess until they sort their s**t out.
I run 10 servers and the LS is turned off on all of them. The thralls still service multiple benches, they just don’t ‘disappear’.
