Time to adres the nerfing of Rolling Thrust

Just for the record - I did post my concerns back then. But as you know, since I’m not a PvPer, that’s like shouting into the wind. Who in their right mind would play a corrupted build (especially in PvP) anyway?

There’s too many issues with pvp as is at the moment.

The hyper armor on weapons is scuffed. (Specially 1h weapons)
You can pretty much run forever and escape from a fight. (Stamina regen is silly atm)
The game devolved into hit and roll, the rolling thrust nerf somewhat mitigates that but it’s still not good enough imo. With spear being gone, daggers being overnerfed and shortsword being a meme, the meta sort of transitioned to bow (which is op in pvp), claws, greataxe (sometimes hammer), katana also became popular when the dash was bugged. But that’s mostly it when it comes to variety. It was much better when spear was still a thing imo as there was actually skill involved in the pvp with low stamina regen. You had to actually have good movement and be able to aim rather than spam rolls. Now it’s just sprint attacks with some weapons, and roll and hit with large swing weapons which require 0 aim, but that’s the way the devs decided to balance the game.

I had a similar response in mind. There were endless rolling thrust complaint threads, similar to the old beast of burden threads…

The biggest issue with the rolling thrust fix was that they also “fixed” Sword of Crom when the root issue of it was rolling thrust so now SoC is just a 2h sword with nothing cool.

I think rolling thrust was designed to allow SoC use and then the exploiting it got out of hand. When they removed the free hit aspect, the devs probably didn’t see the purpose of soc as is so they just made it a normal 2h

Corruption has already been mentioned here but I think it cannot be overstated:

Corruption Builds feel this nerf quite literally twice as hard.

Things were tight before but this is ridiculous on top of the AoW stamina cost changes (about 4x cost per swing).

This was a rumor started by a forum post.

They changed the Sword of Crom to normalize it compared to other Two-Handed Swords. Whether that was a good idea, or bad, is another matter entirely. But it wasn’t fixed because of Rolling Thrust.

So either an error in attacking a problem in both directions or a purposeful design decision to remove the uniqueness of SoC, right?

Rolling thrust…
One of the most awesome perk this game ever had.
In chapter one i will use rolling thrust while wearing the Abyssal armor and six shot almost every single world boss with sword of Crom…
But then, nerf the sword of Crom to the ground!
Ok, i enjoy it while it lasted…
Chapter 3. All the mobs will instantly rotate to the direction of the player. The dodge window will be really small, so agility becomes the only build and rolling thrust the best pve option if someone wishes to eliminate everything easily on the map alone making the silly-broken thralls more useless than they already were.
Chapter 4. Rolling thrust gets nerfed.
Stamina gets balanced, no this wasn’t a nerf.
Strength builds are vital again since mobs are not instant rotating and agility is not that op. Yet agility still remains the “best card”. So devs gave kick an unspeakable power. How?
The mobs and npcs now have the AI to round you before attacking you. If they round you, you cannot move, rip!
But if you have kick you are saved.
There for… Hammer and spear hold a great and vital advantage right now because of the kick.
I cannot say if rolling thrust should be nerfed, but i really enjoy kicking now. One thing is certain that if we didn’t have this nerf i wouldn’t mind change my gaming style.

Nobody…if they’re trying to boost their overall odds in a fight.

…And that’s coming from somebody who exclusively plays Corruption.

Your question is surely rhetorical, I know, but I think an added opinion might matter. I’ve tried to find all advantages I can find with Corruption Builds and posted a general guide. It’s rather extensive and can be found here:

There are a couple omissions that I should add in like the utility spells, the application of golems (Lotus Burner), and the actual use of Gloves of Jhil (which only applies after recent post-roll stamina regen change).

Also, I made an entire post prior about Corruption builds dying in AoW Chapter 4 pre-release and while it caught some eyes it clearly made no difference.

It’s similar to trying to stop a steamroller.

Indeed. I’ve read your guide, and I’ve seen certain Youtubers playing sorcerers on public PvP servers, so I can definitely see and appreciate the utility sorcery brings to the PvP scene, even if it makes you weaker in direct combat. But fighting against other players is only a small part of the whole PvP life.

Now that I think about it, perhaps adding some stamina-saving effects to corrupted attribute perks instead of normal perks would help with the problem. As in, make the old Rolling thrust (or a similar effect) a Corrupted Agility perk. And maybe something that helps climbing to corrupted Grit so you don’t need to bat yourself when you need stuff from the top shelf.

Ah, forgive that oversharing with the link, then.

I agree to this, but I was responding to your direct, more open question outside of the parenthesis here:

While PvP combat is not all of PvP, there are pretty reasonable workarounds for every other kind of other content outside of largescale solo farming runs. My focus here was attempting to be pertinent towards the problem exacerbated by the Rolling Thrust nerf.

Sure, the suggestion part of my guide built out some less fleshed-out thoughts around that- you’re right. Of course I wish that there was something similar to that available. I can see why stamina conservation was less important before, but with the ramping factors that all stem from AoW including this nerf in Rolling Thrust, I’ve genuinely and nearly completely stepped away from the game for the first time in years. It’s become too much of a drag in even the smaller combat parts of the game I had still enjoyed.

This gave me a laugh, thanks haha.
