Too much Junk (items, benches etc...)

TL;DR there’s too much junk and stuff in the game and it slows down gameplay and having fun.

The situation… anytime I come back from playing the game (i.e. doing anything outside of my base) I return with just an inventory full of stuff. I am my clan’s encumbrance build player so I hoover up the stuff. Then I spend almost an equal amount of time sorting those items into boxes.

The problems…

  • playing on PvP it’s not smart to have all your chests close together so they’re spread out which means theres a lot of running between chests back and forth if I miss an item or two.
  • there’s a billion benches which make the bases huge which means more running around between boxes and rooms and floors.
  • there’s too many useless items, too many pointless variants of items and such.
  • there’s no auto sort of any kind.

Firstly the pvp situation with boxes I don’t see a fix for this, this is just the reality of pvp. Could have bigger boxes that hold more, that means I need less boxes but the down side is that an attacker get’s more items per bomb spent, that’s a tradeoff.

Why do we need so many benches? What was wrong with for example with the glass flasks being made in the furncaes before? What is gained by having a casting table other than yet another thing to build to make buildings bigger so more cost to make the building etc… etc…

Some of the T3 benches are HUGE. I get the idea might be to make it so only people who can afford big bases and protect them can make the big benches but that’s a feedback loop. The people with more stuff can make stuff faster because they can make bigger benches because they have the space and resources for it.

The Junk items, what is the century egg even used for? Why is there a million cooking recipes when they all pretty much do the same thing. All the different types of plants for dyes and dyes themselves are clutter, 4 different states of gold or silver when only really dust is used for example. Why is there water orbs, water filled glass flasks and purified water? They could all just be water orbs as an example.

Lastly all this clutter and there is no auto sorting of any kind. V Rising has the compulsively count button as an example of a system that could be implemented. Project Zomboid has a favouriting system so at least when I [give all] it doesn’t move stuff I want to keep on me. Many games have more detailed sorting systems than this though too… like space engineers or minecraft lol. Minecraft is actually quite a good example as weird as that sounds because they have an ungodly number of items and players have complained about the fact that inventory management and storage eats up too much game time and there are great videos on the subject with suggestions.

Last night I was tired after farming and logged out with my inventory unsorted. I logged in today looking forward to play… 2 hours later with an inventory that is still a mess and frankly gives me anxiety to look at I was just too frustrated to play and logged off again.

I think I agree with some of your points regarding some of the work benches, but I suppose it all comes to down to, if you don’t really need it, then why are you hoarding it?

Just drop the unwanted items or give them to another player, you don’t have to sort and keep everything you pick up.

Seriously therein lies the path to madness… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

LOL!

This is a problem best solved with a "dump vault (or two or three).

Make one for animal parts. Make another for bricks/stone/ores. Make one for plants. If you can find room for another, make it for “odd ball” stuff. Like healing wraps from bosses, etc.

Never put anything in them that does not stack.

Have a couple overflow sorting chests.

And make plenty of extra storage chests next to each bench you place.

And then, when you finally have an entire eldarium chest filled with 45 stacks of 500 feathers… Stop looting feathers.

Name of the game is to have a place to dump all those easily hoarded resources, and then have enough extra storage to find space for it afterwords. The vaults will help a lot with auto stacking things.

I know the issue, and I disagree completely.

I want this game to have a wide variety of shit to collect, and an advanced crafting system. It’s one of the few things to even bother doing.

The answer to your problem is to get creative with your storage solutions (there are a lot of them), or to stop playing on PvP servers.

Also, why are you the only designated ‘sorter’? Sounds to me like you pulled the short straw, tell your clan-mates to stop being lazy and pitch in.

Having all the fun and then logging off leaving it all on you to sort out is kinda lame. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

If you are feeling burnt out, then you really should speak with them about it, have you done so?

While I appreciate your comment and it is true, I’m talking with my clan about it already. However it’s still a point that could be improved upon by the game’s design, thus the post.

Honestly I don’t disagree with you.

A classic example was the DLC artisan tables, that was just ridiculous.

this is valid, and some of the extremely junk items I do just drop. However it’s annoying when say, I just dropped like all the stone and wood I’m looting from thrall bodies just to find out the next day we have no stone at all and need to make brick or something similar. I pick up all the stuff that has uses because sooner or later someone in the clan (myself included) will want to make something that we don’t normally make… e.g. the reptile armour for transmogs today and guess what we have reptile hide to do that, because I picked it up and didn’t drop it and so on. A lot of the clutter items could be condensed, contuining with the hide theme. Why do we have elephant, rhino, thick, hyena, bear, feline, fur? It could literally be thick, fur, silk and hide for example. It’s not just hides though that could see a clean up.
