I have noticed that there are translations in the game that are either peculiar or outright wrong (or there are none at all). This thread is meant to find anything that is off with the German localization - if you want to report for another language, please use a different thread or, if unavailable, open a new one for that specific language. This is to prevent things from getting too convoluted and thus helps simplify the task by simply eliminating the need to sort things for different localizations.
If you have found anything that is off the mark in the German localization, feel free to report that here.
Faulty translations from the emotes:
- Thump against chest: Incorrectly translated into “Gegen Truhe schlagen”, which is nonsensical. The word chest can also mean Brustkorb so the correct translation would be “Gegen Brustkorb schlagen”.
Again from the emotes, but missing translations:
- Come over here: Should be “Komm hierher”
Challenges, missing translations:
- Whenever you are making progress in a challenge, when it states the progress that you have made it says “ - Progress i/n” (where is the challenge in question, i is the number of times you have done the task and n is the required number of actions for the challenge to complete). This needs to be translated to “ - Fortschritt i/n”.
- Upon completion it reads “ - completed”. This needs to be “ abgeschlossen”.
I confirm funcoms way of translating into german: type word in google translater, done. You disagree? Then explain to me how it could happen that dances with bears name went “Der mit dem bär tanzt”?
And excuse me how this is still in he game!?

It’s a reference to the book and movie “Dances with Wolves”, which, as far as I know, was released in German as “Der mit dem Wolf tanzt”.

“der” mit dem bär tantzt = “he” who dances with bears. this thrall spawns 100% female.
Better translations would be : Tanzt mit Bären, Bärentänzerin or even Bärenjongleur:)…
This is a classic case of translation mishaps. It’s entirely possible that the translator has not seen the game or the character, but only the in-game texts. In which case the translator recognized the reference to a classic and retained that reference in the localization (which would be lost in your suggestions).
Unfortunately, the original English name “Dances with Wolves” omits the “he who” prefix which would tell the dancer’s gender. It has been added in the German name of the film. So the translator just changed the animal and was done with it. If they had had access to the game data and seen the character, it’s unlikely that they would’ve made such an error.
I’ve done video game localization work in the past, and the most common format for the original material has been an Excel sheet with lines of text in one column, and the translations are to be written next to them. It was a really crappy way to work, because I had no context for those lines - whether visual from the game, or tone from a voice actor, or anything like that.
But, at least Funcom does accept feedback on their game localizations and fixes them, eventually. So this thread has its merits.
Could you please take the discussion of the whys and why-nots of why Funcom has translated the way they did to another thread? This one is for finding translation errors and omissions and giving the correct translations.
Leading a discussion about these issues here is entirely out of this thread’s scope and only helps bog down the entire thing, which doesn’t make it any easier to work with.
