Tricks with 'Stop Following'

I’ve been playing around with the follower command Stop Following and am really impressed with the utility the devs gave us. As background, the command can be used anywhere (almost) and the follower stays put as long as you are in render range. After a bit, when leaving that undefined range, they warp back to the last guard spot. Comes in handy !

  • Taking StumpBroke to the UC

When leveling a thrall in the UC I sometimes feel the need to visit Sepermeru so I bring along a horse. They used to get in the way, but not now. As soon as I warp to the obelisk, I tell my horse to Stop Following and my thrall and I clear the skeletons. Telling StumpBroke to follow again, I take him just outside of the first boss, Guardian of the Flame, and stop him from going in with Stop Following.

The next set of skellies are too easy even with the horse breathing down my neck and I’m still headed west. I tell him to stop following to the right of the Red Mother and kill the two little dragons for the bones, then kill Momma.

Riding the mount to the next small one, I don’t even get off, just let the thrall tank and whack away from the saddle.

The third boss, The Gravewalker, is a short ride and I tell the horse to stop following again since he would just be in the way.

All this time, he was never placed on guard and when following was getting his own XP from our kills.

There is a good argument for killing the skellies from horseback, the XP he gets. Off to Sep and whatever comes next.

  • Take my stuff home, Horney (gazelle) !

I have a few farming spots for iron and rock that warrant a small camp. I take a gazelle the first time and place him on guard. That’s now his home. My thrall (last placed on guard at home base) and I kill and farm until the gazelle is full. When that happens, I tell the gazelle to follow, leaving my thrall scouting, and ride or warp back to base. Offloading the gazelle goes quickly and I put stuff I need at the small camp in his inventory, then tell him to Stop Following.

Logging for a few for lunch or warping to an obelisk and back, I now find my thrall at home base and the gazelle is back at camp. No sweat, GI. Everything is now back in its rightful place, including all the mats and loot picked up.

I also use this at the mounds.

There are probably a few of you who have similar tricks up your sleeves. Let us know, please !

jim

PS: All UC bosses and their loot is shown in the Loot by Boss chart and the locations are above it.

Thanks @Jim1 I have never used that command was not sure what would happen. Will be sure to give it a try now especially when I don’t want to risk getting a new thrall killed. Have started collecting purge thralls on my server running the purge setting at 3200 making for good action.

ON PVP, We will build in as hidden a spot as possible. Then build a map room by Sep. City. And the base has no doors, just all wall stacking and ceiling stacking.
With certain other tricks, you can have fish traps, a small well as well. And use only large chests, no vaults (space is easier to manage).

Break 7 named/t3 bearers. Level them to at min 10. These are named after delivery services, Amazon Prime, UPS, etc…

Here is how you can now have a base with no doors.
Put your beds in the “hidden” location.
Put all the bearers in the hidden location.

Now when you need to leave you port out thru Midnight garden then to set city. Go and do your farming etc.
When done, return to map room at set city area (or really any FOB close to an ob) and place your 200 slots of inventory, wheel and armor in 5 chests.

Now pull bracelet.

Spawn at bed.

Grab a bearer, and head to your stashed loot. Load up bearer. Have it unfollow inside FOB, then pull bracelet and repeat with all the bearers.

When done, log off for 15-20 minutes. Log in and all your loot i now at base. You never had to travel back to base, which means chance of being followed and giving up location is 0. Cheese to the fullest. IF you do this during the 75% of non raid time, it is very safe and easy to do. During raid, FOB can be raided while bearers are on scout inside of it, so best to not do it then.

Fascinating, What, thanks. As a PvE guy, I don’t have the things to be concerned about like you do. Sometimes I think the PvPers are the most creative with the software rules than we are, by necessity.

I make a misteak (sic) and it’s an inconvenience; you make a mistake and it’s death. Necessity is the mother of invention :man_superhero:

Very innovative way of using essentially the same mechanic. Kudos.

The only variation is if we can build a base big enough to house a map room, then it is even easier to have FOB’s in every farming area.

If we have very active clan, then we have them have 2 chests that they put “main” base stuff in, and i would do pickups daily after server restart before i went to work.

I may have missed it but I read post 3 times. How do you get bearer thralls out of door less base remove a foundation and then replace? @WhatMightHaveBeen. That’s a great way to get around.

If I understand correctly, You port to the Midnight grove by drinking a potion of midnight, then exit the dungeon to Sepermeru

Sharp use of mechanics

You have them follow you, then port thru using the midnight potion. Then port out of midnight to set city. Thus, you never actually leave base. If you build the base 8x8, then you can map room instead toany ob, again have the bearer follow you to the FOB. Have it unfollow, then load it up. 25 per named, 20 per T3. IF you can deal with the size, Rhino work better, 30 slots. But on PVP, pets are DOA and smaller is better hidden, thus the bearers.

Another nice trick to have 2 bearers almost stand guard at the hidden base, place one down. then have it follow you and it will move away from its “home”. Place a 2nd one almost in the same spot. This way you can get 8 bearers in about a 3x3 hidden storage room with about 24 large chests (100+ storage slots). All you need is midnight potion mats and fire bowl cauldron in the middle for quick port out.
We keep a 3x4x2 crafting area there as well with 2 or three improved fridges.

IF you have them on unfollow, make sure the settings are minimal as far as chase and attack (5 meters). this will prevent them from chasing something in the volcano as an example, and running into the lava.

Thanks I have always just bought the midnight groves potions didn’t know you could make them.

When you talk to him to learn the Midnight Alchemist feat, it gives you 3 new potions. Potion of midnight, Potion of Bestial Memory, and Potion of Natural Learning. They take you to the Midnight Grove, Reset attribute points only, or reset feats only, respectively.

Wow, neat idea about getting thralls close to each other.

On the other subject, I tend to use gazelles, small, blend in with the environment and 20 slots. 28K (horse, gazelle, their food) of stone, iron or wood goes a long way. Also the loot from the mounds breaks down nicely into star metal and hardened steel, not to mention layered mats and bearer packs.

More, more !

I have not done the grove since last year will have to remedy .

Fortunately, you can stick a boatload of them in a fridge

You know, if you have a horse for every bearer, you can get 35 per trip.

A bit more than I can handle, really, but that’s an awesome number of slots. I usually carry enough mats to repair my star metal tools 3 times, then get burned out :man_shrugging:

I just don’t like bearers as a follower, really. I would rather kill for the mats and watch them bleed to death :man_supervillain: Even though a bearer kit takes a slot each, I can carry quite a few and given the number I kill in the mounds, that’s a lot of mats.

Good clue, though

Reminds me of the time on the test server when I was willing to trade you half of everything for a stack of alchemical base, but you just said “nah, you can have it”

You still can

Test server will be up in a few days !
