Turn Off Living Settlements on Officials - Please

Hello fellow Conan Exiles players and the CE Team,

I’ll get straight to the point:

Unless there is a planned hotfix or update in the very near future (within a week or less) that specifically addresses this, I’d like to ask @Community to disable Living Settlements on Official Servers immediately until the issues players are experiencing can be resolved.

Players, please react:

 if you agree and you’re an Official server player
:+1: if you stand in solidarity for the Official server players
:tada: if you’re on the fence
:open_mouth: if you disagree
:slightly_frowning_face: if you’re our resident frowny face expert

Also comment to give your thoughts if you’d like.

If you have experienced the 0.0.0 issue, please post a screenshot of the thralls at 0.0.0 since the hotfix on your Official server. If you feel comfortable your server number as well.

Why is this being requested?

The Age of Heroes update was released on October 17, 2024. Immediately after the update, players began experiencing a range of issues with the new Living Settlements feature, including but not limited to:

  • Worker thralls disappearing to coordinates 0.0.0 or off the map
  • Thralls dying from poison with no clear cause
  • Thralls becoming “unlively” (breaking their settlement actions or focusing on just one need)
  • Barkeeps being deleted
  • Doors being opened, which allowed enemy players and the environment in, or granted access to thralls that wandered

On October 23, the thrall rescue timer was reduced from 1 hour to 5 minutes, allowing players to call back their thralls from coordinates 0.0.0 on Official Servers.

On October 24, it was announced that, for the upcoming weekend, server settings would be changed to disable Living Settlements on Official Servers.

On November 4, a hotfix was released that attempted to address, among other things:

  • Worker thralls disappearing to coordinates 0.0.0 or off the map
  • Thralls dying from poison with no clear cause
  • Thralls are “unlively” (breaking their settlement actions or focusing on just one need)

Unfortunately, the hotfix did not resolve these issues for everyone. Players are still reporting random deaths of their thralls, disappearances, and finding them at coordinates 0.0.0. For some, their thralls congregate to one area and do not seem to want to be anywhere else: the Tavern, a carpet, a wall.

While the Disable Thrall Use feature for placeables and benches has been a welcome addition, it was not implemented for doors of any kind. It was communicated that door settings are coming, but the player base has not been given a timeline for this feature. As a result, players still face the unpredictability of the settlement system, with thralls potentially being exposed to the environment or enemy players.

Additionally, while PVE-C servers don’t have the issue of guarding thralls being killed by enemy players, their thralls still open doors for enemies. These enemies can infiltrate previously secure strongholds and kill players.

The impact of the Living Settlements system on various niche playstyles and game modes has been significant, and the feature feels incomplete. It seems that the pulse of the entire community hasn’t been fully considered. Especially in consideration of the “workarounds” that many have had to employ or the apprehension of even placing their hard earned worker thralls.

Thank you for the comment here. While it doesn’t resolve the issue, at least there’s something to go on. However, it would be helpful for players to have an idea of the expected timeline for a resolution, so we can better manage our expectations.

In the interest of saving what little the players have left that they have worked hard to accomplish, please disable the Living Settlements feature on Official Servers immediately.

This one didn’t get a picture it, but it seems that roaming thralls can sit on the edge of one of the Argossean Fountains and read a book.
It’s a lovely touch.

This one very much looks forward to when this feature has been refined to the point that it doesn’t come with the vortex and when doors can be meaningfully locked.
Until then, this one would prefer if the placement and dress up options were what we got in this chapter while the live Settlements feature stayed in the off configuration, while it finishes baking.

The hackers kind of fixed the issue. Almost all thralls have already been killed in all PC officials.

I’ve been a huge advocate for turning it off. I think it’s quite obvious that it needs to be either addressed immediately with a proper patch (unlikely), or it needs to be switched off until further bugs are ironed out. Personally, I’ve lost two thralls to date. One on Exiled Lands after equipping her with a momentum, top tier armor, and leveling to 16. The second on Siptah, yet I had done nothing with her as of the moment she mysteriously died. As of this moment, I have not logged in to check if any other thralls have bit the dust, but I will surely be following up as necessary. See my two screenshots for lost thralls here:

would like it be optional if we put the thrall free in the world he will wander a do what he wants, if we put it directlly on a bench he should stills there. For me make no sence for e.g. put a blacksmith on base that will spent all time wandering and then have to put a figther or archer or any other non crafter on the station to do the working animation. Now my stations still pretty empty it was more live before. Cant afford common thrall to fill the stations with 65 cap. By the way there are a hacker logging as admin on officials servers and deleteting our thralls so we dont need to make a hard decision of who we should dismiss.

I have a transtone base close to jhil’s roust so not far from 0,0,0. Every time I’m by there there are usually 3-4 thralls. So I know it’s still going on on 1727.

I’d have a screen cap for today but was just the one floater

I agree. While the patch has worked for me I understand it’s not a universal fix and others are very frustrated with the shortcomings.

TBH I’m just amazed Harperson hasn’t frowny faced this post.

Not to be a party pooper, but I am on the fence with this issue. I get why everyone is upset with the missing or death of thralls. But whenever I take root in a server and build my empire, I always wind up with too many thralls. So if some wander off and die, it gives me a chance to get new ones.

Living settlements are most definitely a poor idea on official pvp servers. But are more fun than expected in pve. However, I haven’t placed any named armorers or blacksmiths since living settlements dropped as I don’t care to risk losing them until I have backups.

And for all the brainiacs out there who think they are doing us a favor by building at 0,0,0. At least build a tower up to the thralls so other players can get to them.

A hacker ‘Blue Ranger’ has gone on a spree this weekend killing thralls on pve/ pvec servers. I don’t know who he is but I did chat with him in global on pvp 1530 where he was using 2 of his alts Skrillex/ id: 123#17207 and Skrillexxx/ id: 123#77695. I hope an admin figures out who he is and ip bans him for cheating. He victimized a lot of players this weekend.

I had a cheating player kill all the thralls at my main base this weekend (including crafter thralls). Now I’m weary of placing any thralls. He hit most of the clans on my server.

I feel this deserves to be supported because of the inclusiveness towards resident frowny face persons.

On single player or on a private server :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I think most people know my issue with people building on the public servers like they own them. You say “kingdom” on a public server and I say zendesk excessive land claim report.

Living thralls should have stayed on the beta servers till it was actually ready to go live.
Some times I think funcom is trying to drive players away so they can shut down Conan exiles. tencent may not let them shut it down if it still has players.

Checked this AM and 5 thralls dropped from the sky and immediately wander off. Mised the screen cap was busy with a few wolves.

Oh, my bad it’s print screen{prt sc} in game, ctrl+v.

Always the chance that my key configurations are as weird as I am but F10 saves a screenshot to a Steam folder for me. No pasting required.

I’m suggesting going from game to here no folders involved.

And that is what I get going AFK with out a body guard

ETA: this guy has been busy.

That makes us two and i am never the party popper just the party pis. ser :joy:.
The funniest thing is that i like fences but i hate spikes on them lol .

Exactly this, new reasons to go out, np.

I believe that the best suggestion here would be for each crafter to have the option to enable or disable wondering, there are a lot of role play pvp servers out there and they wouldn’t like this exclusive ban. Other than that there are players that love this mechanic and they play on official pvp servers.

Nope nobody should build there, devs “fixed” this issue, now the thralls can land on the ground :rofl::rofl::rofl:.

The greatest reason nobody should build there or around this area at least comes with the buggy bitc.h, sorry Freya, that’s so time and whine consumable (for nothing ).
Lou Feng fan here, yes i admit it, a thrall with advanced AI, well done Funcom, keep it coming. Sorcerers must fight like Lou Feng.

What do you say, @Community Team?

Can we please get a consideration for turning this stuff off? It is not fixed yet.

What an uncommon effect, and a touching sentiment. Most unexpected. Like this:

@Kikigirl thank you for bringing all this to my attention. I have been focused on returning to servers and didn’t realize exactly how much this affected them.

Please, PvP needs some love, Know-whut-I-mean Funcom?
