Weekly Invasion with flying monsters which target foundations and pillars as a means to control building

I think a great way to control buildings would be to have an invasion mechanic. On the exiled lands map, a large group of NPCS would invade from the North, South, East and West once a week. In the South, as these are mostly noobs it would be low level invaders. East and west would be medium-level invaders and North would be where high-level invaders spawn. They would travel from the spawn point to the center of the map and attack any Thralls, pets, players, or foundations they come across. There would be sorcerers in the group which can raise the dead bodies of thralls and pets they kill, charm beasts, and persuade the npcs at camps to follow them. there would also be groups of flying creatures which will pick up friendly npcs and drop them onto bases which will make bases on mountains vulnerable. It would be a great mechanic to implement because it would encourage players to work together on PVE servers. One could also have it where before a base is attacked a messenger would be sent demanding tribute of food, gold, or materials. which if given will cause the group to ignore that person’s base. The tribute could be based on the size of a person’s base as well as the location.

Dear god no. I don’t mean this as an insult to you, it’s cool that you’re thinking of ideas, but this is an awful suggestion, for multiple reasons.

One of the reasons they changed the purge mechanic to be controlled by players is that the large majority of people hated having their bases attacked semi-randomly and without them being able to have any real influence.

In addition to the above, this idea punishes people for building near the edges of the map, which is already a slightly more difficult place to have a base (and by “difficult” I mean it takes more time to travel to most of the places on the map, so being near the edge is already more time consuming than building in the middle), there’s no reason to make having a base near the edges any harder than it already is. If anything, attack should come from the dead center of the map - of course that doesn’t make any sense either, again people disliked the old purge system.

You just need to do more purges, and don’t worry about what other players do or don’t do.

The whole point of PvE (for most people) is that they get to choose how much they want to interact with other players, a lot, a little or none at all. Each tribe is an island unto itself, unless they voluntarily choose to cooperate with other tribes, anything the forces inter-tribe cooperation, and especially across an entire server, would make most PvE players quite unhappy. People play PvE because they want to interact vs.E-environment, not vs.P-players.

This game, like most survival games, already requires a bunch of farming. Being required to farm just to keep your base alive would be pretty insulting, they already have the decay mechanic for that.

In the end, this sounds like you’re a player with a lot of extra time on your hands, not everyone has that much time to constantly defend their base or farm for bribes, that’s why many people play PvE in the first place. Time is valuable, this idea steal waaaay too much time from people.

Better solution:

Add a clan/guild bench, where you have to pay resources to reset the decay timer.

The amount of resources is based on how much you built.

would you guys stop coming up with stupid ideas please
let them fix what is broken and not come up with a mandatory purge for everything

This game needs a real upkeep system so we can sort out the people who come only online for a second to refresh decay. This fakes the real playercount.

not really important for me as aplayer

It was a good ise be4 when players blocked off the map, not amymore. Yes to have some kinde off radom moving around NPC´s sounds fun in contrast to hte today standard static map when you know what will happen (if no other player interfer) and will create some radomness and to have a defens at home and not only in the purge gauntlet. Yes in a way we need abit more danger in the game (its a survivle game) but not a total base leveling whave of units, spec when its mostly hurts the soloplayers most.

a long time ago the sandstorm did damage to structures no matter what type of server you were on, but then they changed it. that definitley kept people from building large and bases in the storm path were rarely seen, with the storm hitting at least once per hour, you could come back from work or school and every piece of your base was at half health and if you had a large base, the rest of your night was spent fixing it. which made people build more sensibly rather than extravigant, lol the good ol days

Terrible solution. Any answer that forces constant farming of resources is tedious and un-fun. That’s not you playing the game, that’s the game playing you.

You might like this idea, but the vast majority of PvE players don’t. FunCom understands this from the history of their game. This is why sandstorms no longer damage bases, this is why the purge is not random anymore, because the large majority of people don’t like to be forced to farm non-stop just to maintain things.

Yup, because the vast majority of people hated it. People play Conan because they want heroic combat and the lore & setting of Conan. They want to be heroes, not maintenance workers.

It also made large numbers of people hate the game. Ahh the bad old days, good thing FC got rid of that garbage.
