What would it take to get the ESRB to reconsider full nudity?

I agree. I have the PC version but also like to play on Xbox. Nudity should not be a big deal. As long as mods likes Sexiles are not allowed in Xbox/PS4 I don’t see what the harm is. The game is based on Conan’s lore and the vast majority of people living in the Hyborean Age with the possible exception of Mitra worshippers would have absolutely no problem with nudity in their societies

Does the world think that children don’t play games on PC? Platform should not make any difference what content is available. Placing harsher restrictions on what’s available for consoles is not stopping a pubescent kid form accessing said content on the PC across the room from their Xbox.

A couple years ago, I knew a 13 year old kid that was porting Fallout 4 nude mods to the XB1. Fallout 4 has an MA 17+ rating from the ESRB, but that didn’t stop that kid from buying the game and accessing adult content on his PC. The ESRB can’t stop stuff like that from happening, so why even treat platforms differently?

Personally, I’m not interested in pornographic mods, but I do believe in equality in what’s available between platforms. If parents don’t want their kids to have access to certain things, it’s on them to police that. It shouldn’t affect those of us who are old enough to make our own decisions on what we want in a game.

This is not the only option, as I have pointed out in a few threads, if people want full nudity on consoles, they can do the following options;

  1. Create a PSN/XBL account in a region that has full nudity. Once the account has been made, look online (preferably reliable sites such as play-asia) and purchase PSN/XBL pre-paid cards and then purchase the game digitally. Once downloaded, the digital version will have full nudity.
  2. Import a physical copy of the game from a country that has it with full nudity.

Keep in mind the first part of option 1 will be needed for option 2 if you want to buy and use the DLC, as only that region’s DLC will work with that region’s version of the game.

Regardless of what option you do choose, a US account can play the game with full nudity enabled.

Yes, actually. Maybe not games in general, but things like nude mods or games with adult content and such. Seen it over a thousand times. “My kid wouldn’t do something like that.” Despite the fact that the entire community is telling them their kid may just be the antichrist.

Plus, these days people in general think of consoles when they think of video games, even though PC is still the superior platform. Consoles have the edge in simplicity of use, which is what appeals to people who are technologically illiterate. (That would be the vast majority of the population.) No messing around with drivers or technical requirements or trying to figure out what all those 104 different buttons on the keyboard do. Just put the disc in and grab your little controller.

Right. So why even have a ratings system for video games? It’s not doing anything. Kids still get their hands on stuff their not supposed to have. All the ESRB is doing is segregating the gaming community.

It’s unreasonable, pointless, and in the case of Conan Exiles, it’s actually breaking lore that’s been established since the story began.

Actually, it is doing something. The very reason for the ESRB’s existence is to act as a stopgap to discourage politicians from regulating video games and/or establishing a federal agency of some kind to fulfill the role.

The default nude bodies aren’t that spectacular in this game. But after you installed some body mods like “AquilonianFemales” or “Wonderbody”, oh boy, there’s detail.

But that’s only for the

If my post gets flagged, it just makes me feel better belonging to the #pcmasterrace!

Lol been doing that since AOL was handing out free trial CDs of their email service

Hell, the way the ESRB is able to make game devs change they’re games makes me think it’s already some shady government agency.

I just don’t see the point in a ratings system when it isn’t actually accomplishing anything other than interfering with developers’ creativity and making it a bit less convenient for consumer’s to purchase certain games.

You, SirDaveWolf, are part of the problem, not the solution. We’re all members of the gaming community. There’s no need for us to be divided by choice of platform.

Why is there no cross play? Why is there no file browser on console systems? Why are you not allowed to change simple INI settings on it?
Hell, you can’t even plug in normal hardware like keyboard and mouse.

PS4 and XBone are x86 Systems. And there’s a lot of software for those systems.

But yes, I am the problem. Not Sony or Microsoft.

This shows how little research you have done regarding consoles, you can plug in a keyboard & mouse into a console and use them, in fact, some games even state they are mouse & keyboard compatible.

Yet another display of a lack of research, multiple games on consoles allow cross play between console and PC, and I can think of a few reasons why Conan Exiles is not one of those games, and they are;

  • The console versions are updated sometime after the PC version, all due to the certification processes put in place by Sony and Microsoft. Meaning there would be a period of time where console users wouldn’t be able to access servers due to a conflict in version number if cross play was done.
  • Console versions are lacking a simple key element the PC version has had since launch, the chat window, and the developers have given no reason as to why it isn’t accessible on consoles yet.

Sony & Microsoft have problems, yeah, but PC elitists are a problem all their own. Lording over console players like we’re all ignorant kids and not worth any attention. The only real thing separating console and PC players is life experience.

There are ignorant console players. People that don’t care about the tech and just want to have some fun when they get home, but there are also ignorant PC players. Players that can’t organize a mod load order without some external organizer like NMM, LOOT, MO, or whatever else to do it for them. I’ve seen the posts, watched YT videos of PC players doing a heavily modded playthrough and then cussing up a storm when their game crashes because of leveled list conflicts or orphaned scripts because they just deleted a mod they shouldn’t have.

One of the benefits of FO4 & SSE getting console mods is that we console players have had to learn how to manage a load order ourselves, with nothing but friendly forum users to help guide us. I’d imagine there are a lot of console players now that can manage a LO just as well as, or better than, most PC elitists.

And yes, PC does have better tech, more features and customization, I can’t dispute that, but consoles are catching up. Another couple generations and there won’t be much difference between consoles & PC.

So come on dude, we’re all gamers at the end of the day. We need to get along with each other, help each other. Segregation isn’t doing any of us any good.

Well, again, it was self imposed by the video game industry. At the time, politicians and various political activists were using violence and mature content in video games as a political cudgel to push their own agendas. There was legitimate concern about what federal level regulations or agencies would look like (not to mention how they might be abused over time), so in order to appease the largely ignorant masses that said people were targeting, the ESRB was born.

To be fair though, the rating system is not entirely a political move that is otherwise without merit. Believe it or not, there are still a great many people who care about what sort of content is in their entertainment. They may not really be aware of what their kids do, but they personally may not want to play M rated games or watch R rated movies. I happen to know a few like that myself. Good people, but they’ve just made a choice not to expose themselves to that sort of subject matter.

Perhaps Microsoft and Sony need to sell a console for adults.
The X³-Box & the Playstation Black
Require a license to use them. Problem solved.

I know for sure people would go through a seminar to get a gaming license to get access to some pretty mature games. It’d be like belonging to an exclusive elite club, AKA being grown up.

Also whenever there’s a school shooting, games aren’t going to be targeted by the media again, because you can then simply ask: Did the Kid have a gaming license?" and allude to the fact that violence seems to be OK, but nudity, not so much?

IMO
If we really want to bring nudity into American entertainment, perhaps crowd-funding an adult only console system is the way to go, considering American society only lets itself be influenced by private enterprise willing to innovate.

“Put money where your mouth is” in other words. We are after all capable of starting new things.

I’d be very interested to know how adult consoles will fair against kiddy consoles on the market.

We don’t need that.

We need to know there… enough people to warrant a company to release special versions of discs. A console would be over top money sink, that may not sell or stay worth it.

By going region 0 (non region disc, (Uncharted 3 had this) but going for 2nd print of game thats AO and offered via website(s). Its cheaper route, that bypasses ESRB crap system… but allows them to rate game.
I don’t think Funcom has its own store? never looked… Capcom and others Host there own Stores, and could do this.

Cyberpunk 2077, could offer this.

Not every company want to pay for two Disc Prints orders.

Not a bad idea, but seems like that would be going about it the hard way. It would probably be simpler if game devs, console manufacturers and the ESRB just agreed on and implemented some kind of age verification system for current hardware that would allow AO content use.

Devs could fully state that their game has adult content, but that it’s blocked by the verification system. For a kid to access it, they would have to lie and cheat the system. Then, when/if their parents discover what the kid has done, they couldn’t put the blame anywhere else except on their kid, or themselves for buying the game for the kid. Legally, devs and manufacturers would be covered.

Absolutely.

And to think with today’s technology, true democracy would be possible by having SmartPhones act as citizen cards for vote verification, voting on issues and bills directly, without needing to be a republic.

The same citizen verification can be used for age verification through generating an anonymous authentication key to unlock mature content for the game.

I mean, we already have a very sophisticated but easy to use Google Authenticator, that most games use for their two-stage verification process.

There’s good reason why we went with a republic instead of “true democracy”, and it isn’t because we didn’t have smartphones.

But enough of that for now. Why are you trying to lock mature content behind multilayered security and specialized game systems? That would just exacerbate the problems we have now. All we need to do is stop pandering to the loudmouths. We have a rating system in place. Just do what we used to do and point to the little symbol and ask them why they bought it if they didn’t want to see that sort of thing. Put the onus back on them instead of letting them shift it onto faceless bureaucrats and ill defined “evil corporations and greedy CEOs”.

As for people who want to purchase mature stuff, all we need is an attitude adjustment among distributors and retailers similar to what Steam has done lately. Put it out there and let the market do it’s thing. Let people who want to purchase more mature rated stuff do so. As for the ones demanding that it be taken off the market entirely, inform them that you have the digital equivalent of the old backroom curtain so they don’t have to see it but otherwise they can go take a flying leap.
