Been doing a few challenges (at least some of them is not bugged) but …whats the point?
Seems like we need to spend money in a game we bought, to be able to use those points we gathered in said game?
Money my friend that’s the point.
Challenges are a way to motivate your gaming. It is extremely common in a lot of games. Destiny 2 is a good example.
So, it’s like this: I may be doing a simple resources run along my favorite route–grabbing iron here, chopping some hops there, hittin’ a bearer spot (hoping for a III and some alchemical base), and whoa, my challenge says I get 30x10 Battle Pass points for killing 10 hyenas? Okay, instead of galloping through those hyena dens, I stop and chop a few up and get those points. No biggie. Didn’t take but a minute and now I am closer to my next unlock. So, really. The Challenges are mostly for those who are self-motivated to do certain things anyway, and they just add a little flavor and specific direction to your gameplay. I love the addition. Nothing but goodness.
It advances the Battle Pass and gives the player something to do. For me, I never think to gather feathers because I don’t really use them. But I have an archer in the clan that does, so for me, it was a nice reminder. Other than that, as you advance through the levels, you’ll unlock various potions, orbs, and other oddities. Not all of it is paid content.
So… it’s completely worthless unless i shell out money for a battlepass on a game i already bought?
(a battlepass whose only function is to unlock rewards from challeges or?)
Yes most of the Battlepass is locked if you do buy it. Think it as a DLC, one time purchase if you complete all the awards that give back Crom coins to get the next Battlepass. Never use those coins awarded in the Bazaar, so you end up paying for the Battlepass once. Meaning the coins earned will pay for the next round of the Battlepass.
Then you unlock whatever awards they are awarding in this chapter run.
Or do not buy it, and just get the free ones if you manage to unlock them. You may or may not unlock them since you have less interest in doing the challenges when you do not own the Battlepass.
To get you to spend more time in the game, doing busywork.
The best way to beat this: Clear the 70xp (x10) and 150xp (x10) if they pop up. Try to avoid using the modifiers on the 30xp or 40xp stuff, so you can recycle them on more 150xp stuff for big XP.
And yes, you have to spend $10 initially, but you get back 1200 coins if you can clear to 55-57 or so, and that buys the next Battle Pass.
But there isn’t much motivation here. Especially when the same stuff recycles.
Kill x NPCs x 10
Kill x creatures x 10
It gets really old, really fast.
The Free stuff is single use junk though.
The Illusory items can be obtained elsewhere in the game. Not unique, just to give you something to glam onto your other gear.
The Potions for sorcery are…okay.
But again, it’s all single use stuff. You get it once on that character and never again.
The only worthwhile stuff on the Battle Pass is the stuff in Ancestral Knowledge, that applies to any character/server you visit. And that is all paid.
Pretty much, yes.
Step 1: Pay the $10.
Step 2: Grind XP challenges for weeks to clear the pass.
Step 3: Use your Crom coins to buy the next BP.
You have like 13 weeks to do it, iirc.
Think of it as side quests. Detours to pull you away from what you normally do, a reason to go to specific places and run certain dungeons.
It’s about the journey, not the destination. Sure, the battlepass has some good stuff you can unlock; but you should be enjoying the challenges.
Challenges combined with a Battle Pass are a way for Funcom to “encourage” players to be active in the game, and thus prop up the player population on servers. That’s part of the goal.
Make money, and keep players on the server.
Making things seem more alive/populated, thus making more money.
Challenges are similar to Elder Scrolls Online Daily/Weekly Endeavors. They give you tasks to complete for coinage to use in the Crown Crate Store.
I do them when I log into ESO. I do not always complete them but get majority of them completed daily/weekly.
Same kind of system in CE, although the rewards are set here.
If the BP lasts 13 weeks (roughly 90 days), then if do 2 levels a day (gained 3 levels yesterday), you could feasibly complete the BP in 30 days of working on the challenges. I am sure some will complete it faster, and others may take longer, depending how many challenges they decide to do in a day.
Only when it’s a free battle pass with free rewards for doing them.
We have to PAY to get the Battle Pass, then we have to be active to earn what we pay for.
And it’s very much a “do this to earn what you paid for, or else you aren’t getting it” setup.
Problem is, these are free challenges and tasks. We aren’t required to pay them to do it.
That is the biggest problem with this sort of design.
the purpose of challenges is to introduce monotony and boredom as thats all ive seen from them so far along with the useless magic casting system and the even more useless building hammer which most modders will not be using…ps if u wanted to make a console friendly version of the game just release a console version and dont penalise the pc gamers and modders that have over the years shaped your game for you,yuu know the modders where the bulk of your game upodate ideas come from lol flagged by community seems the truth and an honest opinion of doing 24 battle lvls from scratch hurt
Only they aren’t quests. They are menial tasks. They are repetitive and boring. What they did by adding, for example, some random Migo spawns all over a leystrine, that is far more interesting and gets you a boss Migo if you hammer it out. The menial kill 10 humans, kill 10 gorillas gets old fast and has nothing to do with the “journey.” Red Dead Online did this method to provide “content” for you to grind things and its so boring it killed most of the population. If you find this menial repetitive stuff to be fun, I wonder what passes as fun for you. Grind the same stuff for 2 months every day and see if you still enjoy it… There were others things to add that WOULD be fun and about the journey, and its not this.
Never played an rpg or mmo before? Same thing.
This.
I usually go about 3 months at a time before I restart the grind.
It’s not for everyone, but if you choose to look at it as menial chores maybe survival games aren’t for you.
For now. Can (and I dare say, probably will) change later.
I understand your cynicism but I would say it’s highly unlikely we’d change this. I will attempt to eat that wizard hat I wore on stream if we take this away.
Thank you for that, that does make me feel a fair bit better about it. I’ll let my comment stand as a testament to me being wrong (not nearly as rare of an event as I’d like, but even so).
Sure thing. I just seriously better not be wrong.
The challenges are the only way to progress the battle pass. (apart from buying unlocks)
I dont know about you, but I find them fine. Enjoyably challenging while starting out (on my first server I even got the black ice challenge before having access to steel. Admittedly map rooms had something to do with that).
I just do the ones that have the 10x modifier and dont stress.
