When will we get a new map

We need a new map badly… It’s getting frustrating to role play my sexy vendhayan character in the same environment

What episode of spongeboob is that profile picture of yours from?

Season 3, episode 49a “Krab Borg”

Listen, I’m sorry if I came off as aggressive to you and was really awful. I’m a just good for nothing that eats all day. But, sometimes when you answered forum stuff … it came off as pretentious but I understand you’re just giving your own genuine opinion

You’re a PC player, right? Then you’re lucky - we can use some custom-made maps from our beloved modders. I recommend you to try Savage Wilds. It’s… great and gorgeous! It has tons of new content, dungeous etc., not less than Isle of Siptah and maybe even more. There is a big community around Savage Wilds and some private servers running and further customizing this map. It’s a great work of some enthusiasts including former Funcom employee. Just try this map in SP and you’ll love it.

I honestly doubt there will ever be any new official maps.

A whole new map is very expensive to create and I don’t think Siptah sold as well as Funcom had expected.

It also wouldn’t really work under their new monetization model.

This one idly hopes there will be one in Age 3 or so.
However, this one does not actually expect it.

There was mention that if there were new maps or map expansions they would not be pay walled like Siptah was.
That the cost to develop the base game would be paid thru the cosmetics in the Bazaar.
How successful has the Bazaar been?
This one does not know.
But even if it has generated lots of lucre, a new map takes time. Not an insignificant amount of time and this one doubts that they would commit to it before certain funding goals are hit.

Siptah has issues.
Lots of issues.
It’s initial conception was less of a full map and more of a post game PvP arena. That went over like a lead balloon. Not just because of it’s conception but also several points of implementation. It’s enough to be it’s own thread. Significant tinkering took place right up to it’s release and we ended up with a map that is a bit of a confused chimera. It has many solid points, but it also has some real head scratchers.

If a new map is ever in the works, this one hopes it is worked to be a full setting rather than a more targetted play arena.
That’s not to say that it couldn’t just be cold biomes or hot ones.
An archipelago of islands, some volcanic, with routine typhoons could work just fine (but island is already done)
Just as a Tundra, Taiga, Windswept Peaks, Frozen lakes, and magma tunnels or glacier caverns could constitute a full map.
While Savage Wilds is probably more ambitious than they would care to implement on anything official (this was discussed in a stream years ago, with an implication of quality control) but something smaller, more Siptah size, could be closer to the realm of plausibility.

But again, this one suggests against holding one’s breath.

I’d love to see a new map, too. Something like an Exiled Lands (which is great; its just old now), a full map of PvE content, rather than a post game PvP arena. PvPers can always do PvP in a PvE map, but typically PvP maps don’t work well in reverse. Funcom has proven in the past that they can make beautiful maps (just don’t hide it in darkness this time).

This one would note that a map designed to host PvP can be extremely good for PvE as well.
However, the map’s core Crux cannot be pray to RNGesus.

Some of the things that, in this one’s opinion, Siptah gets very right that are more PvP than PvE in concept are making every region of the map relevant throughout the life of a playthrough. This one will only focus on the positive.

Brimstone is abundant in most regions of the map. However, it is concentrated around areas that could be considered end game content.
Likewise, Star Metal falls regularly in a central area. That central area happens to be in the middle of the Maelstrom a good chunk of the day, and thus harvest is a pain, but not because one is dying of old age waiting for a Starfall on the wrong side of a ridge. Rather one is mostly in the open, possibly contenting with end game monsters, while also temperatures are not hospitable.

Both sides of the island feature a set of higher end ruins with some nice drops and vicious critters.

Vaults are scattered evenly across the island.

The point being, a thing can be conceived towards PvP and in implementation find great use for PvE.
It may not be as simple as the path from PvE to PvP, it does require care to be put into how things are placed and interacted with.

I just can not agree with you about Brimstone and Star Metal. There are enough places to get Brimstone for low-level players. You can harvest literally tons of it in the Asura Basin and there are only one bird, one aardwolf and one lynx on the way from the coast - you can just run past them all. Star Metal is a bit harder to get but way, way easier then in the EL. No severe frosts, no mad sabertooth cats jumping at you from nowhere etc. All the enemies are visible from far away and you may find (relatively) safe way to the center of the map. Just go right after the Maelstorm ends. Black Ice was a pain in the EL and is easy-cheesy on the Isle of Siptah. I’ve managed to steal some near the Vaults and run away from the monsters to make my first Ice Box. There are even some easily accessible nodes near one of the starting areas which are not guarded by any creatures. Isle of Siptah lacks a couple of the vanilla recipes, some others are dropped in surges only (and are rather hard to get) but it’s just a paradise for builders.

This one did not mean to imply it was only around the vaults and ley shrines, just that it is concentrated there. There are other locations, of course, and those can become as contested as the shattered springs on Exiled Lands.

The Star Metal is much easier. This one is probably remembering when the bug that caused storm monsters to not respawn was in effect. Depending upon where it drops, it may be mostly in the clear. The lack of cover comment was mostly in reference to PvP concerns.

It’s unlikely that Funcom will ever release a new official map, unless there’s an “Age of Maps” that makes it worth their effort to introduce more maps into the game. This would only be possible with a very intelligent monetization strategy. Siptah Island is currently a thorn in Funcom’s side: it has a high cost to maintain empty servers, requires much more effort to fix bugs, duplicates effort to introduce new mechanics and resources, and overall, the game’s performance is affected. In Age of Sorcery, Funcom basically put the resources for sorcery in the corners of Siptah Island just to decrease the complaints from players who insist on staying there. But the main story and all the primary adaptation was lovingly crafted for the Exiled Lands. Lastly, and most importantly, if they didn’t have to spend so much effort patching updates to Siptah Island, the content released for the Exiled Lands would have much higher quality and performance. So why add another map?

The playerbase is already split between Siptah and Exiled Lands. A new map would split that further. I’m not certain how that would be a benefit.

If you’re on PC you can use custom maps which have the benefit of simply being downloaded, not paid. So no real splitting is happening there.

New map = split player base = servers that feel dead.

An option I would support is an “Unstable Portal”…

Said portal takes you to one of a handful of new explorable zones. You gather resources, fight mobs, come back to your server after words.

Community stays in tact, new areas are available to explore.

Set up some sort of rotation to keep things interesting.

Maybe even get creative and add difficulty levels, or PvP zones that function between multiple servers.

Most complaints players have about the game are in fact caused by other players. If everyone plays on their own server, those problems cease to be.

Siptah is lovely but it shipped poorly in my opinion with everything either incomplete or locked behind RnG. I feel maybe a new biome in the Exiled Lands.

As others brilliantly explained it is expensive to make new full maps.
