When you find out you suddenly have to be "always online" to play single player mode

When you find out that a game you paid for, and could previously play in offline mode, suddenly instated an “always online” service…

WHY. Why take a page out of EA’s book on how to be the worst gaming company.

Perhaps its related to them describing Games as a service, I am starting to get a hunch the new map will be subscription for access only or something.

Wasn’t this always the case for PC players?

As so many complain (also on reddit) I doubt it was for single-player offline! Hence the name

You had Denuvo for DRM checks. Now Denuvo is gone -> always online facepalm

Yes, unless you used a mod (which has been taken down by the original author since it no longer works).

People act like this is new, but you have always needed an internet connection to open up single player on PC.

Sadly it always needed internet connection.

But why by the way? For verifying you are using a legit copy of the game? Wouldn’t be easier if they only check at the first start? Since you’ve paid for it once and because of that it doesn’t matter if you have xxxxx amount of torrented versions. I’m curious.

Sometimes it’s frustating that you worked all day and just want to play, and somewhere a lightning strikes, internet goes off, and you can’t use the internet AND you can’t play either. Especially if you are a single player only just like me.

You can plug a smart phone into your computer and access the internet. =)

Depending on your service provider and where you live, that may not be a viable option. Not only is there no guarantee you’ll have internet service via your provider, but many companies only give you so much data you can use a tether for before they start charging you extra.

Truly, the best option is for Funcom to make it so people do not have to be online to play SP. If they won’t do that, then, well, in the great words of Conan:

“To hell with you!!!”

Does it work with a Sony Ericsson W995(!!!) too?
I feel like a true barbarian now

@Necrobile 1GB/month is not that much so I’m very thrifty with that enormous amount of data.

No. Starting with early access it had true offline play-ability. I don’t know when they removed it, but when I started playing again you needed the mod to play offline, which itself is more than a little ridiculous. But now with the FunCom Live services it’s always online, even with the mod.

Okay, so it wasn’t always, as I said. But it’s not a recent change either.

If a mod that used to be able to bypass this doesn’t work anymore, it’s probably not going to help if you complain to Funcom about it.

You could use the OFFICIAL Dedicated Server and play SP offline np before this update.

it did not: You could use the OFFICIAL Dedicated Server and play SP offline np before this update.
Also Anti-Piracy measures are a joke, they all get cracked, this is about datamining more likely.
