Where are the new DUNE game forums?

You can resent change all you want, but it happens nonetheless. I’ll see you over in the Dune discord when you realize that.

Agree with you there, but the forum does have a better selection of sub forums.

Thing is this

You know I used to live on the fan discord. Quite often I saw newbies come on ask a question I didn’t or any one else at that time had an answer for, and the question scrolled to the heavens before anyone that could answer it saw it.

Unless you want or need a real time discussion or question answered.

You mean where a conversation has a heading and usually can actually stay on topic. And some one can come back to an hour later and not have missed a word, or carry on a conversation for days?

The only thing a discord has over a forum is real time conversations.

You do know funcom will open a Dune: Awaking forum once the game drops, right?

Actually you won’t because I have no interest in it. I initially did, when it was being listed as a sandbox survival game based on Dune, but it no longer is and what it has changed into is not really of interest to me and so why would I join their discord, or their forum if they had one? That makes no sense at all.

It’s an open world survival game with faction PVP. They say MMO, but the the Conan public servers are limited to 40 players and start to crash at about 15 so…

Of coarse right now I think it’s 5 if some starts a purge
Still not sure why they don’t have a Conan discord.

Having been in PVP battles in Age of Conan that had dozens of players per side in 2008, I think an actual MMO made to run on dedicated machines and not rented instances will be fine.

Hell if Daybreak can manage 1200 players in a single fight on Planetside 2, Dune should be fine.

The reason why some CE servers run badly is the server software is made to run on normal home computers within a very easy to install all-in-one package that are user friendly.

I wonder why that happened.

Eh, it’s probably those damn players. Can’t have anything to do with lack of effort in terms of moderation and communication. :+1:

Yeah, they should replace it with Discord! No way people who post here will go there :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Got no place else to be

You might want to look up who made Age of Conan.

Having done some moderating/admin’ing(still doing that on Discord) in the past, I can tell you moderating Discord is more of a hassle than a forum.

The reason they have a discord but no forum (yet?) is probably because discord tends to be the ‘popular’ option nowadays.

And just when did that come out?

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve said a few times when it hits $20 I’ll get it because I can count on funcom for some fun, but there are other things I can count on them for too

I’ve played a few of their MMOs since Age of Conan and none of them had server issues. FC may have some issues with their MMOs from time to time but server stability isn’t one of them in my experience.

You can play it for free. OH you meant dune. Well they still don’t have a release date for that. :woman_shrugging:

Yeah I’ve played Age of Conan a LOT, and I’ve played The Secret World, though not nearly as much, and honestly I’ve never had issues with server instability. Maybe once if a very great while in the very beginning when there were a ton of people online, but it really was not much of an issue and within moments the server would have rebooted and everyone would be back in. But it was super rare. The server issues didn’t become a “thing” until Conan Exiles, but at the time Funcom was literally about to shut their doors for good and I think they got roped into a long term contract with an absolutely garbage server host service (g-portal) that they simply cannot legally back out of (at least not yet). But when you are attempting to keep your company alive you cannot be picky, you take what you can.

It feels like the situation on the forum has worsened since they disbanded our volunteer moderators. I wish Funcom would reinstate them.

Been here done this. NO! Why? Bias and favoritism. My opinion of why we don’t have it now.

Agree.
I won’t use discord , i flat out refuse.

I find the forums a much better experience for both chatting and finding information.
But then again… i don’t have the patience of an ant and don’t need information scrolling by like a stock ticker machine every fraction of a second.

I am cool with the laid back approach of a forum and they tend to have much better organization.

Same. I absolutely hated Bethesda for moving to Discord. Forums are the closest I get to social media, so X and Facebook are off the table too. :unamused:

They’ve made posts about Dune in the forums so it might get one.

Unlike now, right?

Reminds me of Mitch Hedberg: We used to have “bias and favoritism” on the forums. We still do, but we used to, too.

Except now we have that and a bunch of other crap, too.

Although true, the forum’s structure makes it easier to skip them because they’re usually confined to singular threads. Whereas on Discord, if the channel is expected to have useful information in addition to two people debating whether Star Wars or Star Trek is better for 200 posts, the options are more limited.

It’s also a LOT easier to bookmark important forum threads and go back to reading old messages than it is to find anything that isn’t pinned on Discord after a few days.

Discord is great for people who want to chat. It’s less great for people who are looking for useful information.

That is the thing discords are usually conversational, like a room full of people all carrying on conversations at the same time. This means it’s not easy to keep up with a single conversation because of the cacophony of the other conversations.

Where as the forum is more like semiprivate booths were you can carry on a conversion with out the confusing rhetoric.

Although i admire the people who run discord pages, i find the forum idea to fit excellent for me. Forum is like a newspaper, you read the headlines you are interested and you join. If you like it or feel that you need to participate, you do. If you don’t, you throw your love in it and continue. Then again the rules are a bit more flexible in here. I am “allowed” to go a bit off topic and come back without getting notifications that i use to much emoji . I love my emoji . I participated in many discord pages but eventually i left, nothing like this forum, no offense!
