Tele is right. He said multiple bases are no problem if they build within the tos. The problem is, the tos has more holes then a swiss cheese. And therefore everybody can report you for anything. They just have to make the claim look valid in the eyes of Funcom. It doesn´t really matters if you have severall bases or not. Just one is enough to get you banned.
That is why I do not recommend playing on official servers anymore. Its a gamble playing there with terrible odds for you to keep your base.
My base has been in the same place for 4 years.
Never had or caused any problems.
My base consists of 3 buildings.
On the server I play on, the players communicate with each other (official server)
I wrote to Umborls and asked if this really wasn’t a problem.
(Outpost, Mining Base, Second Base on Official Servers)
The thing is that the outpost etc. also prevent other players from setting up their base in the area and I don’t think that’s in the spirit of peacefully playing together on a PvE server.
Before it comes to the scandal here, I wrote Umborls.
Umborls even said he would try and get a new convention added to the game where we can have “community property” for bridges and community maproom structures, etc. He didn’t promise or anything but he came up with the idea himself and said he would try. I guess something like that will come with 3.0 if in fact he can get it passed.
One thing I’ve noticed about Umborls, he doesn’t repeat himself. If he said it somewhere that’s the only place he’ll say it. So, good luck getting a reply. Just use the search tool - it works and will take you a lot less time.
To the OP, what was the purpose of a thread complaining about spamming? Was it to vent and get public opinion or to alert FC on an issue with consistency of their enforcement? If it was the later, then their removal of the thread was confirmation they got the message. If it was the former, then it’s really no place here because it just fuels a downward spiral of negativity and will eventually be deleted due to this.
For the current discussion, I’m not sure anything confirmed from FC personnel will appease folks because there is too much nuance in it to get a clear concrete # of bricks, size of base, # of allowed outposts, etc. There is no 100% safe…at least nothing fun . So we all navigate with a risk based approach and strive for the same intent. If you have 10 outposts in prime real estate on the map, yeah you are probably pushing it. One base in the prime real estate while 9 outposts in small areas (like 100 square foundation size) that are subprime…you are probably safe as long as you are obviously not blocking any game content or otherwise limiting player fun with the game itself.
I am glad I don’t build a huge base. I understand people want huge bases but it also makes it so hard for new comers to find a place to have their own as well. I am a solo player and so I don’t really need a big place. I don’t play on pvp servers too feels like it’s too much drama to pvp in any game.
If you are a solo player, why are you playing on an official server at all?
If you don’t like how others build, then play offline.
Then you won’t have any more problems.
Of course big bases are not nice unless the clan consists of 10 players.
Then it makes sense to me.
And you can also report players when they break the rules.
However, if the players do not violate the rules, then it is their business to deal with these players in order to create a reasonable cummonication with each other.
Sure, here’s the link and here’s the relevant part of the linked post:
And did you get any reply?
It depends. From all that I’ve seen Umborls say, it seems that one of the things they try to discourage is purely decorative claim. In other words, if you have a tavern – or an inn or a brothel or an X-wing replica or a re-creation of Taj Mahal, to name some of the things I’ve actually seen seen – then you’re occupying space someone else could use to build a functional base, and you’re not doing anything with that space except show off your skills as a builder.
Regardless of whether people agree with that logic or not, that’s the way things are.
Also, I’m pretty sure that even if you make all of your outposts nominally functional, if your claim is excessively massive, you’ll probably get slapped by an admin, too. In my opinion, nobody really needs to build a base on official server that spans two or more grid squares, even if it’s chock full of crafting stations.
I share the same understanding as you @CodeMage in regards to outposts. @Umborls has been pretty outspoken and consistent that size is not really a determining factor until it affects performance.
That being said, when I and others tried to press the boundaries of what FC deems as acceptably “functional” communication dried up, at least that is my perspective.
So long as “functional” remains undefined by FC, your builds are at the mercy of the subjective nature of @Umborls team. I can sympathize with their need for control, but I wish they would just tell us that they aren’t going to tell us… TOS dialogue is not really benefited by half measures.
Thank you very much, I did not find this section.
That broadened my horizons, now my level of knowledge is finally complete.
Outpost are land claims for me, so I took it from the old thread to mean that these are also forbidden, like Second Base and Mining Base.
Since other players might want to build there and since 50 players can now play on one server, I took it that way.
I also wonder why you need it. (Outpost, Second Base etc.)
Because there are porters and horses that enable us to bring everything quickly to the base.
For me it’s a kind of selfishness with the bases and outpost etc.
And no, Umborls hasn’t replied yet, but it always takes a few days.
Maybe you’re farming thralls from a specific faction. Sure, you can drag them from one corner of the map to the other, across difficult terrain, through a variety of hazards, and around numerous bases that block your way. Or you can build a wheel outpost instead and convert the thralls there.
Similarly, maybe you want to farm and stockpile a large quantity of a specific resource. Yeah, there are bearers who can help you carry that, and mounts to move faster and carry some more. But for a sufficiently large quantity (think about how much stone you need for hardened bricks), it’s more efficient to make shorter trips to a nearby outpost and then later carry it all at once with an encumbrance build.
And yeah, both of those reasons are a matter of optimizing your logistics, which isn’t a must-have. You can be less efficient and spend less time having fun with the game. But an outpost doesn’t have to be a huge territory hog, either.
However, if none of that convinces you, here’s the best reason to build an outpost: trying to get a specific purge. Since the purge type is determined by location, the only way to get the purge you want is to build an outpost in the region where that purge has a chance to spawn.
Or you could have just believed me and all your concerns would have been satisfied immediately - also saving people from doing it for you over 15 or 20 posts!.
Well, just believing is not my thing.
I like to check.
Because simply believing something does not mean being able to understand this thing or acquiring it as an extension of knowledge.
Best example is Mr.P. you just believed that for years without questioning anything.
And what that has led to, Europe and the rest of the world now sees.
Outposts…map rooms. for EL, I put base close to ob, large wop next to another ob and strategic map rooms with some minor converting stations therein (ie furnaces and or carpenter benches). I try to keep it low but I’m actually entertaining the idea of having each t3 alter at my maproom locations so that everyone can see it on the map. That means 7 maprooms around the EL…that’s doable.
