Why do i take so much damage

im using the full heavy vanir set exceptional quality and yet i go fight a wolf and if i get hit i almost half my health and then i get staggered for 2~ seconds due to the server lag and i end up getting hit again and again and then i die.

am i doing something wrong? why does damage feel so scaled beyond reason in this game? not to mention using a executioners axe i feel like it takes 20~ hits to kill any normal mob with it.

meanwhile my thrall has 10k hp and 2 shots anything?

do i just HAVE to use thralls to play this game? or am i missing some build or setup? the only way i can play this game is using a shield hitting a mob once or getting hit once and just blocking and let my thrall play the game for me

Is your armor epic exceptional or just exceptional?
Crafted on improved armorers bench?

How many points do you have in vitality? The vitality perk is linked to your overall HP. You could also look at grit for damage reduction. Both of these things will do better then any armor in making you more hardy.

Are you playing on an official server, Single-player or private server? All of these may have their different multipliers for damage for players and NPCs.

Also, was the wolf you fought a regular wolf or one of the corrupted variety? The corrupted ones are crazy strong.

normal wolf / 25 points vit rest in enc and survival for farming. my t4 follower just solos everything for me but if i get hit once its over pretty much.

also official pve-c server. i honestly dont understand how to play this game.

with full vit builds you dont do enough damage to kill a mob in under 5 min and with full str builds you dont live long enough to do anything so you’re pretty much left with your thrall soloing everything. my thrall has 11k hp and 2 shots mobs but i cant get close =/ is this just how its played? bows and staying back?

You are correct that full strength and full vitality don’t generally work unless you are playing with a thrall or another player, to help balance things out. A good balance build for fighting is 40 strength and 40vit. Or if you want more grit and encumbrance 40strength and 30 vit. And then you need to practice timing your attacks and learning to use the dodge. No way around it you cannot take as much damage as your thrall. Nor can you deal as much damage. You can still participate in the fight though, so long as you are careful. Also remember to take plenty of healing. If you get hit hard roll or disengage running in a wide circle to heal (roasted haunch and herbal tea work well together and can heal you as you move). Keeping full health is imperative so you don’t get one shot by a strong enemy.

The reason you are not dealing damage and are dying quickly is you don’t have enough strength and vitality, you are running a farming build, which is great for farming lots of mats, but no good for fighting.

My recommendation is, use your farming build to get mats and take your thrall for support. In this build you will need it. Then when you want to fight, run a dungeon or go get thralls, use a potion of bestial memory or a yellow lotus potion to switch to a fighting build described above. A little practice and you will be fine on your own against most npcs. If you’re going against bosses though thralls are still strongly recommended. Hopefully some of this helps and good luck exile.

So you are wondering, why you dont make much dmg (or receive much dmg) with a FARMING BUILD?

I killed volcano at lvl60. With medium armor. All without any thrall at all, because back then lava one-shot killed everything. Also your thrall. So no one took one to the volcano (they can still die there, if they are running around in lava).

You are doing sth false or you want to tank dmg from several fighters - well that will never work in this game

Get at least perk 3 VIT, STR. Grit at at least 2 if not 3. Survival max 1 perk. Agility also at least 1. Acc ZERO. If you want to be an archer, then switch STR and ACC points.
ENC according to your gear and weapons and some buffer for it.

PS.: I hate switching builds. So I have an “average” build, which works (with certain items) quite well for most of the things. But it all depends on which items (armor and weapons) you use and if they have +ATTR
PPS.: Try also an avg build and then Armor - Official Conan Exiles Wiki look at which armor gives which Attribute.
I have 5 points in survival. But when I pick stone, etc. I put on the witchdoctor mask (+10 SUR) and use blackblood tools (another +5 SUR). And suddenly I am at perk2, without changing my build, but only items I wear.
If you need even more survival, use the Chosen of Asura armor.
