Why do official servers (North America) take such a long time to reboot after a crash?

Official Server NA
Unscheduled server shutdown

Reboot times in excess of half and hour or more. Why is that Captain Ron? Hopefully the answer is not “Nobody Knows”… But I suspect that may be the reply.

Just FYI, some servers (not talking about this game but computer servers in general) have boot times measured in hours rather than minutes.

Because for the most part official servers are well… for lack of a better word… garbage :man_shrugging:
Gportal runs them on old oversolicited servers and seemingly have no intention of improving their quality. Couple that with the fact that they never wipe them so you have all the base refreshers and clutter and you can see how those things add up.

Add up to the point where there are two restarts each morning. Apparently the first one just isn’t stable. But it also has a higher probability of t4 spawning so if you are lucky enough to knock out and drag the thrall to a wop within 5 minutes (the time between the server accessible and the second shut down). You get the thrall

I run my servers on the same server farm Funcom does, they do not take that long to reboot.

That makes sense. You would think Gportal would take better care of a client who does that much business with them.

I think that’s actually part of the reason, seeing as they’re the official host and probably have a very advantageous contract, they don’t really have much incentive to keep up quality, especially since they’re being advertised directly ingame :man_shrugging:
I know gportal is pretty good for other games, so it’s not like they couldn’t improve if they wanted to  I think they’re saving money on this game and using their much newer hardware to host others.

They once advertised their hardware, but I couldn’t find anything on their site currently (which is a bit problematic as most server hosts do). But a somewhat recent news article stated they use Intel Xeon Gold 6254, Intel Xeon Platinum 8268, or Intel Xeon E-2288G.

I don’t think the issue is the hardware, but more on how many instances per server they are running. And in my experience they run the same configuration on whether or not its on Funcom’s servers or others’.

That could mean that Conan Exiles in general is just at the bottom of the barrel and you’d be correct in your theory. But I think they are just putting too many instances per machine compared to their contemporaries.

I do know that Conan Exiles has only been officially advertised as being a 40 man server. But the ‘standard’ is 70. But other server hosts have decided the standard is 70 and adjusted accordingly, but G-portal still handles it as if its 40 and stuffs nearly twice the amount per machine.

This is exacerbated by the fact that you need more resources for 40 than what was originally allocated. If I am correct they need to quarter the number of servers per machine to get adequate performance for what they advertise (Gportal does advertise up to 70 man servers), or at least half it for the one’s running Funcom’s servers. That’s my theory of course.

I think it’s a combination of both. Not sure whether that hardware is still what they use for conan or they somehow managed to find older ones just for this :joy:

But yes, overusing them is definitely a very likely scenario as well, especially since “some” private servers get “lucky” with them and actually get some decent servers, which I would imagine is simply the result of them getting a slot on a machine that is not so crammed… yet…
