Why is the New DLC featuring Horse Armor from Prior DLC themes

I am starting to believe the DLC is going too far, capitalising on prior sets themes and stapling them to a set outside its theme for a cash grab (you bought the aqulionian set best buy the horse armor too!) I would honestly find it to be less of a point of contention if they hadn’t included any of the Horse armour to be themeatically intune with the prior DLC’s.

the unique building pieces was bad enough, I get it is fresh art but it feels cruelly cynical to just tag them onto a set which has nothing to do with them, and all this coming from a feature we were promised from the outset.

Each new DLC they impliment seems to stray further away from the purely super cool cosmetic packs people were extremely happy to buy and creates an overall negative feeling like “I have to buy this for my armor to match from a set I bought prior”, “I have to buy this to have a coheisive tree base”.

I know this policy wont be reviewed because of the money bugs, but I still feel it necessary to say you are begining to lose your way with DLC and I hope it doesn’t have an ugly end

I guess I am used to heavy p2w korean mmos. There hasn’t been a single DLC that I felt forced to buy. I do buy them because I appreciate the cosmetic nature of the DLCs. They do look pretty and fund the development.

I have to agree with @Narelle, nothing about the DLC is a forced buy. I know some people think that particular dlc armor sets’ combination of armor points, attribute bonuses, and temperature resistances make them pay to win, but I am skeptical of that. In this case, buying the riders dlc because you want horse armor that matches your culture dlc is exactly the cosmetically driven motivation that makes the dlcs a worthwhile venture for a developer. The base patch gives you access to all three mechanical types of horse armor. The horse armor in the dlc is if you don’t like the look of the base content.

Probably better the horse armors be in one collective dlc then separate previous dlcs. Considering the name of the dlc.

I see no problem this DLC is all about horses, what else would they do if not include saddles pertaining to Hyborean age nations?
They even included armor sets on this one which I never expected.

I wasn’t disagreeing with the cosmetic format, I just think it could be handled better by not drawing on the aesthetics of prior popular DLC’s to encourage thematic purchases.

It isn’t a “forced buy” and I never meant to suggest it was but if you want your horses armour to match your own already purchased through a DLC it is a necessary purchase, I personally would just feel better buying it because its cool like I did the other DLC’s I have bought, instead of buying it to ensure I have all the content for my khitan culture pack for example.

I was initially actually interested for the new content (the new armours look pretty cool to me) but I have subsequently been left with a bad feeling over the cultured horse armours and will be likely delaying purchase now(though will ultimately likely buy it sooner or later).

I am more upset that there is no new shield to go with the foot infantry

It does keep the old dlc relevant.

there is no new shield? hadn’t heard that, pretty disapointing as it looked very high medieval knight like, shield could have been very cool.

There is no shield at all and that makes no sense as they do include two handed weapons in it and they can’t be used on horseback either

I also find the lack of a shield disappointing.

First of all, why wouldn’t it contain armor themed for previous DLC? I mean, really, why not? The whole DLC is themed around mounts, which are brand new, so it makes sense they’d put a variety of armors in there to go with what’s already in the game.

Second of all:

What @Zeb said.

Look, I get your point. In a perfect world each DLC would have everything that we have ever dreamt of:
Aquilonian would have rounded pillars and vaulted ceilings,
All the DLC’s would have arches
All the DLC’s would have bridges
and all the DLC’s would have horses.

I would have loved that!
But unfortunately you have to think about the time constrictions that developers have on them: you have to do x and y until this date, and most likely the date keeps getting shorter and shorter. It’s not, unfortunately an pleasant position to be in, pressure on your job, even if you like it, will ruin the experience. They do what they can. Like it or not, each DLC is a finished product that has been released to the market. Then a new thing like horses comes around.

The question is very simple and is this: would you rather they just launch a new DLC with added bonus content, or would rather that they remove all previous DLC’s to add the new content (if that even is possible) causing delays in certification and hole new bugs because the version of the DLC that you already have installed is different and they would have the launch several hotfixes to correct that?

I know it sounds like a money grab, surely half of it is, but 2 things:

  • Money is the only thing keeping this game alive. You need a monetary reason to create new or added content.
  • Simply put, releasing a new DLC with previous DLC content is always gonna be the easier solution.

Look, I’ll sound hypocritical, maybe, but I’ll grab the complete edition as soon as I can, just cause’ I play since launch, and I can’t deny the fact that this guys love this game and are doing an amazing job since then, all the effort and hard work they’ve been doing to make this game better and better, is worth. But I gotta say, I’m not happy with some of the decisions they made about some DLC’s, I think the tree house and the other with the arc structures (I can’t recall rn) should be part of the game for everyone, its just not fair you have to pay for things that should be for everyone. But, again, letting those 2 DLC’s out of the question, the rest is just cosmetic. So, I think they should make those 2 a part of the “vanilla” game, and then, if they decide to get a dlc of those new additions with cosmetic variation (aquilonian, pict, etc.), not gonna lie, I’ll probably buy it.

Sorry if I misspelled something, my english is rusty :stuck_out_tongue:

I cannot for the love of me understand what you’re complaining about. The Riders of Hyboria DLC is, as its name says, about horses and riding in the world of the Hyborian Age. It’s quite clearly cosmetic, as opposed to pay to win. Yes, they included horse armor from various kingdoms of the Hyborian Age. Were you expecting them to omit them completely? Or to release separate DLCs for each? Or are you against DLCs in general?

I think he wanted the aquilonian saddle to be part of the aquilonian DLC and so on…

I have absolutely zero compassion for people complaining about minor stuff in DLCs not available to everyone. Can you explain me how the unique building pieces are anything else than for cosmetics? No one has to own vaulted ceilings or a treebase with wooden foundations to play the game.

CE has NO ingame shop or any monetization model that would bring in a continuous cash flow. We play this for hundreds of hours. Price/Value relation couldnt be any lower, are you really that cheap with stuff that serves you well for such a long time?

The DLC is 10 bucks. Gotta ask you how much you spent on a starbucks coffee that you would drink while writing this.

Oh, a retroactive update to a DLC?

I totally disagree with your statement Raskhaul. I think its just good business :joy:
Apart from the fact that you don’t have to buy anything to have a horse or a saddle for fighter or runner mounts.
I buy the DLCs cos they look facking awesome and I like to support Funcom to keep on supporting my game that I love.

Again, good business. The feeling to “have it all because it looks great”, THAT is when you know you did a good job as a designer 3D modeler and whatever. IMO of course…

Idk, we don’t have starbucks here  and as I’ve said before, I’m getting the complete edition as soon as I can  but, just for clarification, I’ve seen 2 clans buying the tree houses on my server just cause’ it’s easier to build a base with those structures, and ofc, a tree base is a better base than a normal one.
