Why spend money in this game?

If you spend the time learning the game, yes it is a bit dull. But what game isn’t?

The great thing about CE is it’s complexity in that it does take some time to know the ins and outs of the game and that knowledge does have exponential benefit for your game play.

I don’t doubt it, @LostBrythunian . But the DS series has very polished combat mechanics. CE’s combat is fun, but very clunky and unpolished. We get away with mistakes that would cost our character’s life immediately on DS and souls like games.

My clan literally talked about how great the art team is on this game. Shame the game loop and mechanics teams lag so far behind them.

This one is aware.
Elden Ring and the exploitation mounting I-frames was the most recent direct interaction with the genre in raw this one had.

Once, this one noted the combat change was what an AI would suggest to make the game more “souls-like”.
In that it hits some keywords (roll supremacy, for example) while missing some of the nuance.

Now, to be entirely fair, the core chassis of the game can only go so far to a Souls-Survival game.

If attack range had gone up across the board, NPCs HP reduced even more, and stamina consumption reduced, this one would say it was staggering in a Musou direction. Not that it hits the fundamentals, just that it has specific similarities.

It is what it is. When a better game comes out for the community, this trash is dead. Until then, they do what they want.

This part is what bothers me. What exactly is happening that makes you lose progress? Are you playing on a private server or Single-Player? If so, are there any mods involved?

Because it would feel weird if one person on a public server lost progress and others did not, and we’d certainly know by now if everyone on public servers suffered from the same. So there has to be an explanation to your troubles, and I’d like to help figure out what that explanation is.

I only play single player on a Playstation 4. I get lots of bugs. Right now there are three areas I have found where my thrall that is following me will not move anywhere, then dies.

I lose progress because I reload my saved progress so I don’t lose my level 20 thrall. If I stay in the game saved version my thrall is gone. It takes to long to get them to level 20, I don’t want to do it again because of a bug. Getting killed is different, that’s part of the game. Getting stuck in the water and never being able to move again is different. Found three areas so far where my thrall quits moving. Ridge to black ice, no frost giants, by the giant horned toad near the volcano, and now in the water near my base northeast of the southern desert.

The stuff in the BP and the Bazaar look amazing. In fact, I doinked around this weekend and earned a free Ark of the Covenant (hot), a yellow protected torch (glorious) an emote, a goblet and a statue of Ishtar. It all looks incredible, as does the game. Just lush and gorgeous.

So it occurs to me that maybe Funcom is looking to us, the greater base, to help fund the next steps. These may include fundamental reworks of various and heretofore sketchy systems. I don’t know if I’m ready to buy in, just yet.

My biggest concern is the continual tinkering with the game’s core elements. This one’s not really a core so much as a peeve, but it used to be so great to fill in one’s attributes with one’s buffs and armor. Taking it away is a sad development. This makes it hard for me to “ride the charge” and evangelize to my pals, who are actually thirsty for info. My answer, continually, as they saw me playing on Steam was “I have no idea what’s going on.”

What I really hope they do is to stop having the gear buffs and start looking at the modifications for the buffs instead. The light, medium, heavy can have different advantages and limitations (like heavy and agility buffs or heat insulation limitations and light can’t do significant cold protections or offer HPs)

Here is something I would do

Light-
Favors-Agility, heat insulation, stamina cost reductions
Bane-Cold insulation, HP buff, additional armor

Medium
Favors- Strength buff, Carry Capacity.
Bane-None.

Heavy
Favors-Additional Armor, Cold Insulation, HP buff.
Bane-Heat insulation, Agility buff, stamina cost reduction

Banes actual put negatives on you while Favors automatically buff on top of the normal modifications. Modifications would include the buffs typically seen in the armor sets with the only difference the armors give is amount of mods allowed.

IE
Regular armor-1 mod each piece
Epic armor-2 mods
Elite armors (SL, DB, Rusted and Vault armors)-3 Mods
Legendary armors (including GodBreaker and champion) -4 mods.

Sword’s 2nd attack LA in the chain not hitting the humanoid enemies since god knows when.
Javelin’s LA finishing move consistently missing if you are not targetlocked on your enemy.
Target hit by knockdown animation recovers from it faster then attacker recovers from the heavy attack animation.
Heavy axe light attacks

All top notch animations, fantastic job for sure

Clearly you already put money into it or you wouldn’t be asking. Eirther play or don’t the choice is yours alone.

You’re confusing the animations for the collision. Sure, they should be more intuitive, but we’ve all experienced being hit by things that didn’t even get close if we see just the animation; and similarly, our own spear-pokes can hit two opponents at the same time if we aim between them.

This is really correct! I believe that they loose more than they gain when they present something broken :man_shrugging:. I don’t know why they keep doing it every time :slightly_frowning_face:. I do support the bp and bazaar but i am not satisfied either from the quality of the updates, either from the prices of the bazzar.
Now to answer your question, “why i pay money in this game”.
This game relaxes me, i love playing it and after all these years i keep finding alternative ways to play it than the ordinary and it’s keeping surprising me. Every way you think that you wish to play this game, in the end you’ll receive satisfaction for choosing this way. Above all you’ll learn new things that they were all these years under your nose and you didn’t notice them. Then it’s the community of this game, the plurality is what we say “grown ups”. It’s a safe online environment for us fellow exile @chooch, playing with underage and minors, does remind you that you are not a child anymore and that’s not beneficial at all .
So more or less, that’s why i spend money in this game, because no matter how broken is in each update, or how unpolished continue, i love it :metal:.

You spend because there are no bugs, desync, lag. You spend because building is fun. You spend because character customization is fun. You spend because you meet new people you have fun playing with. You spend because their items are reasonably priced and well-thought of. If nothing resonates with you, then you know the answer to your question.

Try to hang a wooden sign on the new pyramid set fpundations and have a look what happens with it. For paid content that is awful

You spend because you are a whale that wants to show off your stuff.

Even if Conan had very few bugs, no legacy bugs, polished, finished updates I still wouldn’t shop at the bazaar.

I wont do business with any store that has a buyer beware policy.
If I’m doing business with a model shop. I but a kit, get it home open it and find badly molded parts, missing parts, broken parts, and I take it back. If the clerk just shrugs their shoulders and smiles at me I wont be doing business there again. Now if I’m in the local modelers club and people there tell me about these experiences with a shop, I wont even walk in the door.

I wont shop at the bazaar because

It’s over priced by far more then I consider a reasonable mark up; as in price gauging. IMO.
New items are broke on release far too often.
There is no return policy for any reason even their own ineptitude.
They often release OP items, and far too regular for it to be an oops. Seems real sus to me.
And there is too good of a chance what you see isn’t what you get. Their add copy is wrong with worrisome regularity.

As I have said numerous times, I wont even spend funcoms croms in the bazaar.

Done. I just bought the pyramid set, and will test this day.

If I create a Bug Report, I’ll credit you for letting me know. :+1:t4:

Short answer ? Don’t spend money on this until they add something to make it worth it to. Cosmetics a game does not make.
