I imagine Funcom would like me to spend money in the game. Why would I spend any extra money on a game that may not work the next time an update comes in?I like playing the game when it works, but very often it doesn’t work. I get stuck in Groundhog Day where I try the same gameplay to try and finish and figure out the work arounds for bad programming. Maybe I got spoiled by Red Dead Redemption 2.
This is a legitimate question.
Why should Funcom get rewarded for such poor work and quality?
I can only justify any payment going towards the design team (not game design, just modeling/animating/sound etc.), because they do a fantastic job.
You mean the game that hasn’t had a real update in the last 3 years (give or take) and continues to recycle content and events indefinitely? It’s easy to avoid bugs when you don’t release anything new.
But regardless, there are a lot of bugs in CE, so it is pretty frustrating. Much of the content doesn’t feel properly tested, or it gets ignored until post-release and we become test subjects.
Cause i feel like- no other games for conan with this level of intensity.
The only game that can still consistently kill me for making mistakes.
If you enjoy it, show fiscal support. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t. But then I got to figure out why you are here because FC’s update critical bug rate has been pretty bad for 4 years now. So the question is if this is such a show stopper for you, why are you still here?
Why should you spend money?
That’s a very personal question.
Why would others, hypothetically, spend money…
They want the shiny dollhouse parts.
The monetization is aimed squarely at a very specific demographic. With a tiny number of exceptions that will be patched into irrelevance eventually, the money is expected to come from Builders and RPers on Officials and Consoles.
With a side trickle of devotion from true believers.
Quixotically, Console and Official players have some of the worst of situations in this game, as far as how well it runs and is administered. The XBoX version had a memory overflow that was left untended for months, PS had a not dissimilar immediate crash/fatal error upon connection issue for awhile. The general pleasure of play on officials is much lamented on these forums.
But that circles back to the aforementioned “True Believers”. When the new monetization system was launched, it was said that it would support included content in and further development of the base game. Some players (read: Payers) thought to invest in further development of, and refinement of experience in the game they enjoy.
Many of us see a most excellent game here, or rather, it’s potential. Many see what the game could be, and natural fools we are, some commit resources towards the forlorn hope that the game inches closer to that.
When Age of Sorcery was released, and after it’s complete inability to be played on this one’s platform of the time was remedied, this one acquired a rather absurd amount of Crom Coins. Long had this one strummed the harp of “Sorcery When?”, and the answer became “now”. It was noted more spells were in the works and it was an evolving system. So this threw money at it.
Now Age of “War” is upon us.
With it, major overhauls no one asked for. But just as the build system update with Age of Sorcery apes Raft (and conveniently protects the new premium content from sharing), the new combat system leans towards the style of Soulsbourne games. Perhaps this is to attract new players?
Regardless, this one now sees where the money they spent will be used, and is disappointed. So the purse strings close until the game has development in a direction this one cares for.
To note, Age of War, in name, was what this one wanted to see as the Age after Sorcery.
But this is not at all what this one envisioned or suggested. It’s not even an Age of War, it’s an Age of Stygian Greed. Age of Banditry. But that’s it’s own thread.
To their credit, they are working on bugs. They just don’t seem to understand how to improve performance of the game on the platforms they are primarily targeting for funding.
Perhaps when Dune launches they will have the staff to actually attend to this game.
This one looks forward to a winged porcine delivering lemonade on that day.
Spend money on this game
I buy things because I’m a crow and the things are friggin’ shiny.
I’d like to think that the money helps in the long run, but we’ll see.
if that was their aim, they sure failed miserably.
Roll-premacy and faster stamina drain/recovery are the big points this one is looking at.
It’s very superficial, but this one never said it was pulled off, just that it seems the direction of intent.
I am new to gaming and don’t really know what is out there. I really like the game when it works. But all progress I have made in the last three days is lost. Eventually I will get fed up and move on. Just hoping it gets figured out.
But Red Dead worked very well. Just a few small glitches. I finished the game and moved on. In Conan I have to do the same supply runs over and over for days because of game problems.
Conan Exiles is quite unique in its strong points, which are the combination of an open world survival game where you build amazing looking houses, have a bunch of thralls and pets, decorate your base, pretty much anywhere you like in the beautiful game world + roleplay how you like.
Conan Exiles offer so much freedom in its sandbox style, the immersion and looks is on another level, I haven’t seen any other game offering the same or even something that comes close to it, but yes it has a lot of bugs, and each update offer a bunch of old and new bugs, usually they get the most serious ones sorted out
Either it is something you can live with(like most do), or you will move on to a different game, but sadly you likely won’t find a game that offer pretty much the same as Conan Exiles
The possibilities do sound great and that’s why I’m still playing, but if I must play the same day over and over to get needed supplies and knowledge what’s the point. I’ll never get to the good stuff. I’ve had to relaod and restart the same file for three days now because I don’t want to lose my level 12 thrall I’m trying to level up.
Could say the same about Conan. Besides soccery all Funcom does since 3.0 is rerange content that is already there to sell it as new features or release content that is not working properly and then gets removed again. Like the events or offline protection. New purge is no new content its just an overhaul. Same AI, same stupidity, same behavior as always. Just now they have a camp and need a clear pathway and go straight for the coffer. No god overhaul, just simply shaking some numbers back and forth so they do less damage but can be summoned longer. Stamina, weapons, armors the same. Nerf in thralls, nerf in pets (shaking some numbers).
Everything that you could call new content of some sorts is gated behind a big fat paywall. And even if the battlepass is cheap in comparission to the shop its still payed content.
They don´t even have a problem to show the bugs right in their streams while promoting their new building set.
At the end of the day everybody needs to decide if he wants to spend money or not, I personally don´t really care. If I like something enough that I see myself using it I buy it, because it gives me joy to build and decorate. But I understand people that argue that the bazar or battlepass items are not worth it. Its a personal decission. And I don´t blame people if they expect more from Funcom.
Not quite… Red Dead leaves the content there for the most part (aside from a few holiday events). All they do is toggle on/off bonus multipliers for xp and stuff, then make an announcement that you can get extra cash or something in the events you played several times over. They’ve already worked out (most) of the bugs, now the game just runs itself. There were issues at one time when new things were added, such as no animals spawning when they introduced the hunter roll… yeah… ironic, I know. So it’s quite a bit different.
CE is adding new stuff regularly these days. The game was pretty smooth after patching stuff when all we had to worry about was a bit of dlc. Now that it’s getting seasons with battle passes, events, and new shop items, it’s a mess with every new bit of information added. Again, that goes back to poor QC.
If bugs on the server bother you, try a single player game or another server. There are almost no bugs in the single player game.
You could, you’d be wrong but nothing has stopped you from being that before
I’ll offer up the rest of that paragraph as proof.
I left after 2.0 because eh. Other games to play. Came back for 3.0 and resurrected an old character. Weird starting the game fresh, naked, and 60th level
I’m still here because the game is evolving again. It was pretty stagnant there for a while.
Now though, well regular forum readers are ware of my aggravations with the game as is. Still playing.
Game gets boring to fast, if you can farm and get things easy and quick.
This! Bugs aside, this is really what many here cheer or jeer and why you aren’t seeing some folks on here more often and new folks taking the mantles of the sages. Whether it’s development saying a certain play style is not being seriously developed for or pushing a new monetization or what the current age is focusing on, the game is changing. The question is more about if you like the changes or not and if not, you are slowly stepping back.
There is something to be said about supporting a buggy mess as well but bugs get solved and eventually it gets solved. What is interesting here is that the main dynamic of this age (the purge) was introduced in chapter 2 vs chapter 1 like sorcery was in AoS. This is why I’m more hesitant to run them over the coals , as it were. However I do find it interesting that the purge affected so many other things and things I would never think are connected apparently are.
