i’ve heard you should keep the same weapon type on a thrall once converted. ie: comes with a one-hand sword… upgrade the weapon but make sure it’s a one-hand sword.
i was wondering, if i put a shield on it, even tho it never had one when converted, will it use it properly or would this potentially ‘gimp’ it’s abilities?
also, if i put antidote potions in their inventory, will the thrall use the antidote if poisoned?
I give my one handed weapon user’s a shield with out any problems. Have also given archer’s a shield without issues. Can’t say it would work for everyone. They won’t use potions. @tiny
I used to believe this too - and it was due to the AI being buggy rather, than some innate preference a thrall has. Since thralls have been a focus for the last few patches, the devs have acknowledge that no such 1h or 2h preference option exists (if my memory serves me correctly). Switching out weapons between 1h or 2h used to cause your thrall to simply stand around (most of the instances, but not all of the instances).
I’ve had no problem swapping out weapons at all since the commands were implemented and a lot of that buggy-ness around managing weapons (like switching from sword of crom during mid fight to get truncheon on your thrall quickly) has not been an issue and thralls will properly use which ever weapon they are using.
I haven’t had any problems with thralls refusing to use the “wrong” type of weapon recently either. A follower who came out of the, um, training center, with a one-handed weapon will happily use a spear or two-handed sword, and someone who was a spear-user before enlightenment will use a truncheon or war axe with no protests.
The only problem I’ve seen is that if a thrall has a two-handed weapon and a shield in their inventory, they may equip the shield, and then get confused because they don’t have enough hands for the weapon anymore, so rather than packing the shield and equipping the weapon they try to attack without weapons.
I take Exile thralls on training trips to the Giant Spider when they’re level 4 or something. Never lost one to poison yet. The Spider Queen’s attacks are so slow that the thrall never accumulates a high stack of poison. I find Bleed more dangerous to low-hitpoint thralls, so don’t let dagger-armed NPCs gang up on your thrall (or yourself, for that matter - bleeding can be harmful to your health).
I equipe all my fighters with 2 hands sword and every one of them use it verry well. They fighter can even use bows if you want to.and ■■■ they already said. Give them food and heal them with the arrows and they just wont die no matter what they fight
I’ve also seen an issue if you let your thrall carry the Bindings used to drag an unconscious thrall. Sometimes they get confused and switch to just the bindings, and just stand there waving a rope in the enemies face like they about to go rodeo.
