Windows 10 end of life and Conan Dedicated Server app

The reason I asked is because the launcher is not the same thing as the server. Rather, the launcher helps you start the server without having to do a bunch of stuff by hand:

But you can still run a Conan Exiles server without using the launcher.

Which brings me to my follow-up question: does anyone know if you can run the Conan Exiles server on Proton? I know BattlEye won’t work, but if you’re running a private server, you don’t need BattlEye.

I have found this:
https://funcom.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059089591-How-do-I-build-my-own-Conan-Exiles-server#:~:text=To%20create%20your%20own%20Server,manually%20edit%20the%20server%20file.

One can launch the server via Steam (I did not know that).
You can have battle eye working on Linux client-side (I can join official servers on Kubuntu)

Here is the link for Proton Battle Eye:
https://steamdb.info/app/1161040/info/

So if the server can be Launched via Steam on Linux(?), possibly the battle eye is going to work too?
I will have a look at that this evening…

And what are those guys grom GPortal, Nitrado etc using to host Conan (what files, how does it get launched etc)?

So the launcher is just a wrapper for using SteamCMD. All the server is handled via SteamCMD. Gportal is probably just launching it from command line.

It’s possible you just need to enable TPM 2.0 in UEFI/BIOS. The processor should be new enough to support Win11.

MS just released Windows 11 LTSC, for free, without these special security/hardware requirements (TPM2) and also bloatware free.

Looks like it’s going to be first good Windows since Windows 7.

I guess they saw Linux userbase grow by 400% within one year and decided to act.

Problem solved

Isn’t it only the IoT Enterprise edition of it?

It is, it’s stripped of everything, even Defender has no GUI but I can see it running.
But how fast and responsive it is thanks to all the bloatware and adware being removed.

I’ll keep it, it solves my problem with Windows 10, and I read somewhere that it’s going to be supported for 10 years.
Since it’s free and runs Conan, why not

Sounds awesome! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it turns out to be just as nice as you’re describing it, but I’ll definitely wait until the end-of-life date for Windows 10. Over the years, I’ve learned to be a late adopter

Thanks for posting the update!
