Have been away and unable to play for a couple of months and am wondering if it is worth starting over.
Wanted to check if the purge is working now and also if combat thralls are working (ie. not falling through floors, actually defending, staying put, etc.)

If those concerns are keeping you from the game, then you will want to hang loose for a bit longer. There is a mega thread about Purge feedback with responses from the Community team on the statuses of that (Purge issues are high on the priority list, we’ll put it that way). There is also a major patch on the test live server now that is supposed to introduce AI improvements with regards to how Thralls engage. The major patch includes the new pet system as well. I encourage you to take a look at the last several blogs/newsletters and patch notes regarding on what’s coming up next.
