Workaround to Latest 2024 patch that broken Linux Proton gameplay

Launch game in steam, Crashes regardless of proton version, some let you get to launcher others just crash outright-
Workaround

STEP 1 - Install LUTRIS to Linux, When installing make sure to include all optionals, IE Gamemode etc.

STEP-2 - Visit lutris DOT net SLASH games SLASH conan-exiles and install the game with STEAM (AUTO) Version, this will download a copy of steam to lutris and ask you to log in again, Log in as part of the install and download the game as you would any other time in steam (DO NOT CLOSE ANY WINDOWS RELATED TO LUTRIS) Once install has completed, close off all versions of steam and click the Close button (Not launch) on the lutris game installer popup window, you should be left with Lutris showing (STEAM) as a game in your game list, This is your conan exiles launch point. (subnote you can also install other games that are possibly problematic via this steam interface through lutris)

IT is advised to make sure you have protonup-QT to upgrade Proton versions within lutris, I have tested this with Proton GE25 and 27 and both work fine on a RX6600XT

(Nvidia users may experiance additional steps/complications because “Yay Nvidia in Linux”) Your distro may require fewer or more steps. Luck be with you!

Hello,
Thanks for the workaround, I’m trying it right now. I’m not sure about STEP 1 : what optionals are you talking about ? Are they related to Lutris or to the game installation ?

Lutris prompts you (when installing from the repository store) to add a series of optional parts, one is gamemode, another is mangohud, there are a couple of audio libs too if memory serves, they are all useful when running things via lutris, gamemode is the most needed, it allows you to isolate the game and prioritize system resources when you launch a title allowing the title to run a little better, subject to the game of course.

EDIT
This information may me different subject to the distro you are on, im running Manjaro and this is how it works for me.

It works ! I launched the game, started a solo session… I’ve got a terrible sound, but I think I can adjust some parameters through Lutris (or I can play as a deaf character  ). Btw, I’m using Pop OS.

Thanks for the workaround !
