I have been using conan exiles on Linux thanks to proton for quite some time now without any major problems, it has always worked almost fine.
Since the last update the game has stopped starting.
CE - AOW3.
It indicates that there is no connection with the lobby and Steam and the game crashes.
Wouldnt it be a problem with proton since its billed as making windows games compatible with linux? Seems like proton needs to adjust, not the other way around.
It is not a question of adapting anything, the software works, it works poorly or it does not work, until now it (proton+conan exiles) had worked poorly, but at least I could play a game that I like on Linux and I prefer not to use proton, but I have no alternative, since Windows is not an alternative for me and funcom does not support Linux with its games. In this the fault is proton? NO.
I have several versions of Proton, well tested that always worked, except “now”, this problem has only happened since the last update and we already know how things work With (Funcom)-> Conan Exiles, five thing is fixed and twenty things are broken, the same as always.
I would settle for at least the Funcom devs not breaking the poor compatibility that the game had until recently with Proton (in the lobby server, in the game, idk), since they do not want to support their game on Linux, At least don’t exclude gamers from this OS completely.
The fact remains, CE does not support Linux. If you choose to use Linux, you have to deal with the issues that entails. They do not guarantee operation on Linux.
Yes, that’s something we all knew, all of us who use Linux and have played CE with the help of proton, nothing new under the moonlight.
We also know that UE4 and UE5 have native capacity in Linux, although Funcom does not allocate a single currency to that platform, I suppose the effort is not profitable and at this point I can’t do anything.
Mr darthphysicist, you haven’t said anything that we don’t already know, but thank you for trying and trying to seem constructive or looking for a solution!
On the other hand and for the record in the post:
It seems that the problem is in the communication between Steam and CE.
If I disable “bEnabled” by setting its value to false, the game starts well, but with its value set to “true”, the game crashes.
On the file= WindowsSteamEngine.ini
…
[OnlineSubsystemSteam]
bEnabled=true
