This is not a troll question. Would be nice if on tomorrows stream it was addressed the internal reason why DbD is not something they see as beneficial to official pvp. @den @Ignasi
Have you brought it up during a stream before?
Sometimes the only way to get a question in is in person at the right moment (before someone asks the same question but in such an⦠Unfriendly way, that the topic becomes untouchable).
This is not my opinion. But the main reason is it trades one exploitive play for another pretty much. Iām not going to go into much more detail than that, they can speak for themselves if they decide to.
My personal opinion is that any exploit of DBD is manageable by those on the receiving end⦠at least way more manageable than what the current system is. Iāve been the āvictimā of said exploits before (in both CE and other games that have offline protection) and its no where near as bad as the claims people have if they miss one 5 hour raid window. Couple that with the fact that players have a bit more personal control as well.
i work during streams
Was hoping for even a quick 2 minutes for whatever the reason. I know it is more about promotion tomorrow, but a dev statement may settle some questions. oh wellā¦
Next time a Q&A stream is coming up, hopefully you can find a good proxy.
Even if this one takes a⦠tepid⦠view of off line protection, itās a valid concern and being silenced because one is at work is miserable.
Certainly there are others in the forum who might be willing to work together to have a clear and sociable presentation and suggestion for the idea at a good opening?
The irony that those who most desire off line protection would not be available to champion the idea due to work and other waking world concerns (the Crux of why it is desirable) is not delicious, far too bitter.
TLDR; condolences.
Please enlighten an āConan non PvP personā.
What is DbD, or what does it mean?
Dynamic Building Damage
Basically, your raid hours are affected by it. It can disable buildings being destroyed while the owner is not around (offline).
Thanks!
Basically, make raid hours 24/7 with DbD on, meaning you can be raided and have to pvp anytime you are on and a 15-30min cooldown after last clan member logoff to avoid exploiting the protection somewhat.
Iāll allow the great man to speak for me here. Everything you need to know about why DbD is a BAD idea:
TLDR; No one will be able to offline large clans because of DBD and thatās pretty much the only way solo/duo players can take those clans out.
Iād love to see significant changes made to the mode that breathed some life back into it and made it possible for people with jobs and families (such as myself) to participate in a meaningful fashion.
Could FC do this? Sure (lots of bugs introduced though). Should they? Nah. The mode is pretty much on life support and I doubt thereās much they could do to fix that because CE PvP already has such a bad reputation.
Apparently theyāre going to rework trebs again for some reason. Hopefully they mean theyāre going to rework them to have a use in PvE against purges.
i feel the problem with raiding now is people look at it as looting only. There is no pvp. So you canāt wipe them? Just enjoy the fights you get where you can test you meddle in combat. That is what is sorely lacking in raid servers. Actual pvp.
Or griefing. Wiping out someone who wasnāt even there to defend their home sounds rather unsportsmanlike. But, as I wrote in an essay years ago, PvP in Conan Exiles has always favored those who have more friends and who can stay online for longer. Fair fights were never part of the plan.
Of course, DBD has its own problems that could be abused, so itās not a magic wand to fix the disparity between people who live online vs. people with jobs and families. And in a worst case scenario could lead into an even escalating reporting war because itās faster to get your enemy admin-wiped than use explosives. Especially since the new treasure room and siege defense features are likely going to encourage building bigger than now.
Whatās missing is a challenge and accept system. Back in the old days, there was a game where you placed down a challenge on an enemy fortress (in this case it could just be the entire clan) and they had 2-3 days to accept and set the date (which had to be within 2-3 days of accepting the challenge). If they didnāt accept then the default date set by the challenger was set and on that day during a window (for NA servers it would like 5pm-10pm) their buildings were completely vulnerable. For example in Conan Exiles -
Clan A sets down challenge banner in the building sphere of any of Clan Bās buildings. The current day is Monday, they set the default Siege time for Wednesday and the window is preset by the server (NA severs 5-10pm).
Clan B logs in Tuesday and sees they have been challenged and sees they have the option of setting the siege for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. They choose Friday and Clan A gets a notification about the siege.
Clan A now has to wait, but with the upcoming alliance system they can speak to other clans and make allies and recruit anyone on the server temporarily for the scheduled friday siege, but so can clan B.
Those alliances might decide who gets sieged next. They can place trebuchets on the outskirts of their foes base too.
Anyways, Clan B now has to defend their treasure room for 5 hours, losing all their treasure might result in something catastrophic like their whole structure losing stability. (Every connected piece).
Regardless of the outcome, Clan B becomes challenge immune for 3-5 days.
This might be more of PVE-C type concept, but this would guarantee no offline raiding and would build up the hype and drama of a siege.
And the game was called ShadowBane and it was beautiful.
That would be 24/7 pvp, yes? I call it: PVP+
Yes, pvp has it own paradigm. Iām looking at how the treasure will be found and carried. The other modes wonāt be able to defend it in route. I guess this is why Encounters are next in development.
