Year Five Completed

Exactly this. In pve nobody was speaking back then, nobody. I left single player because I was tired to play alone and since I was a pve lover, pve servers was the choise, but pve was not welcoming. Plus almost every passage was closed by someone, a complex competition . I went pvec and before I know it I was closed by someone, again complex competition, so I went pvp official. Still every time I was logging in I was spawned in the desert, so I went private pvp. I spend over a year in different servers, learning the new players how to farm what and helping admins with builds, it was a way complete and beautiful experience for me. In some privates I participated, admins had a rule, Farm&Build is not allowed to be raided, it’s a pacific clan. I had open doors and chests full of things with labels that they could took everything they needed, my house was a shelter. Until I finally meet the players I really wanted to play with, so I followed them to their pvp madness, beautiful days.

By “pacific” I take it as “peace-loving,” which is very cool.

You know, in the good ole days right after Launch, Officials commonly had merchant class players, as well as common storage, healing and “give and take” boxes. I’d forgotten about that.

With this merchant you could trade bark or whatever for Perfected Sets which were a pain for me to make. It was great.

I remember that day, I recall you shooting that rhino also and we brought it down together.

I was actually near the central tower of the southern aqueduct.
And while it was quite a distance I don’t think it was as impressive as you described.
I am flattered, that you think of me so highly.

I do miss those long ranged shots, you can’t shoot like that anymore because the arrow de-spawns short of the target at half that distance.

First of all, congrats! I’m not sure exactly when I first started. I know from xbox screenshots I’ve been been playing this beautiful mess of a game since at least mid 2018. It’s the first survival game I ever played and I’ve been a fan of Conan since I was a kid, so it hooked me straight away. I barely play anything else. Nothing else seems to stick. There is just so much to do.

At the beginning I felt like this game was what I always wanted RPGs in the 90s and 2000s to be. There was just so much freedom, nothing was spoon fed and you had to work it out on your own, for better or worse. Lots of memories: the first time I did the Dregs, first time I was raided (“sorry m8 we’re looking for ToxicRick” - I believed them
 the first time).

My favourite early memory was wondering if I could disguise myself as a faction and walk through them unmolested. I figured that’s what the warpaints were for. I dressed up in all Darfari armour, put on Darfari warpaint, and strolled right into the Summoning Place with weapons sheathed.

No one attacked me. I walked, and almost made it out the other side, but I got cocky and pulled out my sword and took a swing at a nearby cannibal. They all aggroed instantly and killed me. I could never get it to work again, and still don’t know if I was lucky, it was some bug, or it really was a feature that was patched out.

Took me a while to find the info, but looks like I’ve been around since Feb 12, 2017. Never touched any other game modes except Single Player.

I spent the first few months casually exploring, learning the ropes, familarizing myself with the terrain, the enemies, the game mechanics, etc. It was always my intention to just play around until official release, and then start from scratch, which I did.

I actually tried to play a pacifist first - only knocking out human NPCs, never killing. That is, until I was climbing a rock wall and a Darfari archer shot me in the back, dropping me back down. I remember thinking “Okay, that does it”, I charged the archer and hacked him into little pieces. That’s when I realized that killing was okay if you don’t like the other person. I am eternally grateful for that Darfari archer for letting me see the light.

Conan Exiles was my first survival game ever, and I do mean EVER. My main genre is actually survival horror, so I have generally spend most of gaming time on titles such as Resident Evil, Amnesia, Silent Hill, Dead Space, Alone in the Dark, The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, The Thing, Blair Witch, etc, etc. But that said, I always loved Skyrim and being able to play something more converse with a little more relaxed pace, luscious environment and epic open world adventuring. When development on skyrim was concluded, I began searching for a game in a similar vein to that and The Witcher, to stabe off the cravings while I waited for TES 6. I happened upon a trailer for Conan Exiles by chance, then started reading up on it. And as someone who already had fond memories of Conan works from his youth, it impressed me beyond measure, and still does. To such an extent that I pre-ordered and purchased the game twice for my ps4 so that I could have both the Atlantean Sword and the Royal Armor (see below). It is now over 4 years later and I am still here. Pretty much speaks volumes.

I love hearing people tales from the early days of play such as these! And I look back on my own with fondness. I slready posted my own early story long ago, so I shall simply repost it here. Hope it can invoke some laughs.

Continuing the discussion from HP regen - This game is satisfying again :

Ps- apologies for the wall of text peoples.

I actually preordered the barbaric edition, got two t shirts, and when it went early access I sucked so bad I didnt play it until a couple years later. A friend and I were thinking about playing Minecraft and I logged into that for like 10 minutes and then I said to my friend “I think that Conan Exiles game looks more like the thing we want
” and now, two platforms and 6 servers later (one ps4 gportal and 5 home pc dedis)
we are fully on board the CE train.

I loved reading your early adventures.
It brought back many memories for me.
Chasing a rabbit for an hour trying to kill it with my stone tool.
Doing an iron run from noob river along the western green wall, threading the needle between the wall and the medium scorpions that scared me to death.
Putting my tanning station outside my base because who would ever tan hides indoors, and wondering why my mats kept disappearing.
Seeing my first rocknose and utterly convinced these were the sandstorm monsters from the trailer and running for my life.
My first PVP experience, chopping wood and another player snuck up on me and tried to kill me, so I ran and jumped in the river.
I went back but was ready when he tried to sneak up on me and whipped out my stone sword and it was his turn to flee, but he never made it to the river before I killed him.

As a clan our fisrt farming less9n to all was “Head on a swivel”. It is a sports term in football (american) to avoid being highlight reel blind side blocked when playing defense.

The truth is never flattering. That day I learned a very valuable lesson about render distance. Effectively your interaction with me taught me all I needed to know about having an archery spotter to keep the arrow from despawning. This was at a considerably early age, so I was eager to learn as much as possible from you. It seemed like an absolutely distant shot, and frankly mine looked like it “glanced” off his back. Remember when they’d do that? I think I do.

This is what was unique to me about Conan Exiles. I love that prickly feeling on the back of my scalp, out breaking rocks or whatever. Sorry to overpoast ya!

And your adventures also. I can relate to many of those experiences. The rabbits, those little blighters always seemed to move just out of swing range, then I would find myself cursing that it would not remain still while I chop it with my hatchet. It is also interrsting to hear where each of us found our first iron nodes, and you chose to venture along the western edge of the map. And to think someone robbed your tannery, which you are right, it does feel like it belong outside. Who needs more leather for petes sake, especially back then!?

That will learn him! I may have to have think on my own. No truly memorable ones jump out at me. I mainly just remember how tense and nerve racking it was in the early levels. But the first time I ever beat 2 enemies on my own with a spear was an amazing feeling, also coupled with some disbelief.

I actually thought of another humorous noobish moment from my early days. This was posted in another thread previously also:
