Your feedback is appreciated - Draft of letter to Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom

Please stay on topic so I don’t have to repost this. There are other places to let out your frustrations.

Now that we know a bit more that the update is coming out later this month, hopeful to see what all the entries mean.

Some of the letter will have to be tweaked based on this new information.

as mentioned before letter is taking too much time, to be sent…

(keep the flag fest if you must)

This is one of those things that you get to do once, so it’s better to do it right.

well nothing moved for months until some member of the community took action to create it kudos to him, for taking ownership, trust me code, the whole letter was in complete halt, nothing was going on. until recently.

This is one of those things that you get to do once , so it’s better to do it right .

and it also needs to be sent at the right time too brother. if you miss the window the effectiveness of such action could be none.

there is however a new window opening with the new patch coming, do hope that window is taken , and no more delays happens.

Thank you for this iniciative Kiki to think that we once faced each other on the exlies in a brutal war of toxicity and mayhem where our clans killed and reported each other to death and now we both want the same thing, for this game to succeed. i will always remember that.

i was thinking why do i remember so clearly what happened then? or in all the battles i ever had in this game.?
i think i know why. i played many other games but none are even close to the memories that conan created for me. Probably played thousands of games of league, but the sad reality is, i don’t remember any game, only glimpses.

My best experience in gaming was on conan exiles i have around 8k hours.

Winning impossible battles, destroying bases with trebs, or gods fighting the 5 raid hours like a maniac to defend my base against a zerg i remember even when sometimes we lost, i still remember how we gave everything to defend. there is nothing that makes my heart race like conan.

Farming thousands of stone, wood, iron, star metal, hides, brim, DP dagon, warmaker, it was all worth it.

This game is simply unique, to me, is the best game ever created, and at the same time, the worst one at times when things don’t work, like bugs, exploits or cheaters.

At the very least, all i ask is to fix some core bugs like inventory, go maintenance mode and hope for a conan 2 because to me is so sad seeing this incredible game fade from memory.
no matter what happens conan will always be a part of my life, thank you.

While I agree with that, there will always be reasons to postpone it and we will end up never sending it.

Things like:
“We usually get some info by now, maybe we wait.”
“It’s about that time the next hotfix/update is released, let’s see how that one ends up.”
“It will be 6 months from the Producer’s letter being posted, they sure will say something now.”

There will always be something and we will get nowhere.

So I agree now is not the best time, something is clearly happening, BUT.. after that, the letter should be sent, adjusted to cover the upcoming update.

This is the second time I’ve seen this sentiment expressed, so let’s address it.

The first part is true, the second depends on the Conan Exiles Allies group. And the great thing about that group is that anyone can join it and participate.

So anyone who is worried that this letter will never get sent can join and voice their opinion. Likewise, anyone who thinks that CEA should have written and sent this letter earlier, could have joined CEA and pushed for it.

I myself am not part of the group. I joined their Discord, but I mostly lurk there. So it’s perfectly possible that someone will tell me that many people wanted the letter written but nothing came out of it. If that’s the case, then the answer is simple: if CEA doesn’t do what you need it to and you have a bunch of like-minded peers, form a different group and do it.

Personally, I’d like to see this letter done well and then published and sent, but I don’t care enough about it to go organize the effort myself :stuck_out_tongue:

TL;DR: The entry barrier for writing a letter is low, so there’s very little excuse for saying “this should be done better” without actually helping to do it better

EDIT: I just want to clarify that I didn’t mean this as an attack on you. If you’re already participating, you’re doing more than I’ve done. But since your message echoed the sentiments I’ve heard elsewhere, I took the opporunity to say what I think in general.

i did as well as some others , until people stopping caring, because nothing was happening for months, and the organizers of the group were not really pushing it either. (one left , the other remain (kinda) but was not pushing for it,

it was people inside the community who started asking questions, about where we were, because the group activity regarding its goals certainly none (nothing was happening)

so the group was created with the besf of intentions, lots of push at the begining , there was some ideas or some very early draft, but it was not followed, then it stopped, until months later when people started to ask questions where were we. then that one person (forgot his name, god bless him for taking this on himself) step up and created the first SoLID draft(that i witnessed), a week or two passed, and then it started to be worked further, i dont know what happened next because i got removed, (with good reason, i know that, i was completely frustrated and as you might figure it out by now, … i am intolerant to people who defends a corporation and excuses unethical behaviour , like all the time, instead of siding with the community) i have been very critical on those people being reffered as “white knights” (this is not new) i know i am blunt and i know i can be hard on people, (but thats who i am), no one here i think even my most avid detractors cant say i dont care about conan exiles…

so if this gets sent , i will be happy as long as players concerns are being included,

this is a letter to be sent with a purpose,. it cant be all nice and pretty, (if that was the case better send flowers) sending complements when they are not deserved offers no aunthenticity, and destroys the purpose of what we were trying to achieve in the first place, sadly the letter needs to pack a punch but i needs to be educated and with manners,

i have to agree a 100% with what you said, there are even references of changing things in the letter to include the upcoming patch, which we have no idea if it would be meaningful or not… it sounds like yet ANOTHER DELAY!

letter needs to focus on the current issues, not in a situation you cant see because it might change in the future., it simply adds delays,. and delays to somethign already delayed enough.

easy said than done, people are tired, i am tired of this fight agains a deaf opponent who does not care (Funcom) yet i still love the game because it was indeed my companion during my cancer, and i have much to be thankful to it, and the people who i met in here , who became an important part of my support network during., it really pains me to see how this great game is being threated. frustration builds, and i know who i am when i am frustrated.

This pretty much sums it up but I will stress: this is a volunteer iniatiative with players who may have various barriers. This could be time, family, jobs, ability, illness, even want.

There has been quite a bit of background work. Weeks have been spent on research, release of the Bugs and Issues list, moderating, campaigning for disabling LS on Officials, sharing on social media, creating a website, creating socials, reaching out to player contacts, etc.,…

In spirit of CEA it is a joining of minds so anyone is encouraged to speak up and act in place of others, if needed. Absolutely.

Especially when this is a letter that is supposed to be representative of a group.

I personally want the letter out as soon as possible. But, while I want that there is prep work, writing it, campaigning it, time away from family, friends and hobbies. Its not the easiest task.

I don’t want to offend anyone or pick any fights, so I’ll try to keep this brief and to the point.

This is precisely what I had in mind when I wrote my previous comment, but I wasn’t clear and direct enough. Let me remedy that.

Let’s go over some concerns and complaints:

  • “We can’t keep postponing this indefinitely.”
    • I agree, “we” shouldn’t. Join up and be part of that “we”.
  • “This letter should have been written and/or sent much earlier.”
    • If that’s the way you feel, you could have joined and contributed.
  • “I joined, but it still took too long to get started.”
    • If you were part of CEA, you could have written the first draft to get the ball rolling. Or helped with the research. Or whatever it is that CEA needed before they got started.
  • “CEA is simply not doing what I need.”
    • If that’s the case and you know enough people who agree, you can organize your own effort to do what you think needs to be done.
  • “Organizing people is hard.” or “Writing a draft is hard.”
    • Exactly. It’s not just hard for you, it’s hard for others, too. Maybe that’s why it took so long.
  • “I could do it, but I don’t want to spend so much effort on it.”
    • Neither do I, which is why I’m content to let CEA do the hard work and contribute my feedback when they request it.

I hope that keeping my post succinct does not come across as confrontational. I’m simply trying to help people view things from the point of view of those who are doing this work for the rest of us.

just for god sake, send it already!…
