i loaded 2.4 on a private server. the map has about 10% more land at the south of the island. maybe this is just the first pass but i thought i read that the map would expand 40% to be as big as Exile lands.
the biomes are just a small area and most of it is taken up by the NPC camps. this is a big disappointment if it stands as is…
When completed I believe it’s supposed to be 90% as large as exiled lands. Also this was a preview of what they are still working on. Recalling from memory so could be wrong
The 3 new biomes may look small but they have alot of content. 45 camps are just the medium/big camps but there are also small camps + lots of animal spawns (more than 7 animals old from Exiled Lands and new ones) + other stuf that I won’t mention for the sake of not spoiling it for you.
The building space is plenty with lots of decent spots in high places as well as ground level.
Not sure where you get your numbers from but the originally released map was about 75% of EL, so with the landmass they are adding with 2.4, the map is nearly as big as the original EL map.
12x6 squares for the ordinally IoS released map = 72 squares
The new lands are about 16 squares or about 22% expansion of IoS.
When I explored the new lands originally, they felt massive. Only later we got the map to see how big they actually were. I would suggest exploring the area and getting the feel of it before judging.
with the tower taking up maybe 30% of the map and is mostly open landscape the whole island seems small. these new islands, as it stands , s mostly water between over crowded land (too many NPCs and such for the small addition).
the feeling is a poor attempt to get one of each existing creature onto the island. Exile Lands has creatures placed in location that make sense. the Siptah you can find resources and creatures in random locations. this does make building easier but anyone starting with the Exile Lands will feel this is just a wort on the game.
dev needs to make this DLC the main game for beginners and then add Exile Lands as a DLC IMO.
i still am disappointed in the exploration value of Siptah, small and lots of running around for the same old…
I wonder if this is a case of people missing the point or a case of Funcom trying to please one group only to get complaints from another.
If we look at how the Isle of Siptah has evolved over time, and listen to what Funcom devs said in their stream, it seems pretty clear that they’re trying to improve Siptah based on the players’ feedback without turning it into a copy of Exiled Lands. They have explicitly stated that they want Siptah and Exiled Lands to be different, and to be played differently.
In other words, they’re trying to target Siptah to a slightly different playstyle. I spent a decent amount of time playing Siptah, and I get the impression that they’re putting less emphasis on exploration (compared to Exiled Lands) and more on action.
It took me around 4 hours yday to Check the new areas( fast check), meaning that i skipped a lot of POI’s that were not in my way.
Too many NPC’s? I was about to make a topic in which i ask for the Addition of more npcs in the new zones(especially Ashlands).
That is not a small Addition at All, i Do not know what you expected to receive but surely is enough for me.
With all due respect, but it becomes difficult … “it is small”, “it is large”, “it is dark”, “it is clear”, “it has little”, “it has a lot”, etc. This map is DIFFERENT from Exile. Let’s play for God’s sake!
Don’t think the entire old Siptah should have been changed but some things were really bugging me since I’m a PvE player for example:
Potential griefing while summoning a surge (resolved with camps now, and surge and purge can drop rarer thralls so this is good)
The night were too bright, I’m glad to see this changed in 2.4 we’re playing a survival game after all
Dungeons are still a bit dull, its just full of mobs you can ignore without challenges like (no traps, no puzzles, no sub bosses, no nothing only mobs > end boss > loot)
Too much rocknoses
I never thought the map was too small, the only thing being when you start on the west side of the map there isn’t much reason to visit the east side of the map only for dungeons maybe.
For example when you start in EL and move from bottom to top is a long run, but on the Isle from west to the middle isn’t.
Tbh, I like both maps and the devs working with the feedback based on the reviews is a very good thing.
PS: yes they wanted to make a different play trough on Siptah, but the basics should have been present earlier in EA. (towns, camps, more biome types)
The area of the expansion is actually not very large but that doesn’t mean that this update is not a big addition. The content of Update 2.4 is a continuation of Update 2.3 by adding new challenges. In addition, I am convinced that the map is not yet complete and that there will be another expansion (another small island for example) and maybe dungeons.
My only regret today is that it looks like no Funcom team is working on the Exiled Lands anymore, which is a shame as many of the old map mechanics needed to be reworked.
I expected actually landmass that fits a bit better to the Siptah theme.
i.e. I still do not get the point of Ashlands or why I should go there?
Which new resources are going to await me? Obsidan? I got already enough bars from big surges.
I imagine tropic island with a volcano, some sand dunes some jungle, jungle animals. Khitan theme, some old khitan ruins and villages.
In my opinion the floodlands cannot be called a biome,
Look at the size, even the previous Siptah islands in the east and west are bigger.
Many animal placements in 2.4 feel randomly added too. i.e.
-A small rock without plants and 6 gorilla guarding it.
-Floodlands dragons don’t fit neither into the area where they are now.
What kind of mechanics? Funcom may not be working on the EL map right now but any changes in game mechanics affect both maps e.g. combat, healing, thirst/hunger, crafting, etc.
