This is a nice idea. Add’s more depth to the surviving aspect. Especially moving T1 buildings to the bench. Without it a player only capable to build a primitive shelter made of branches and leaves
Id love to be able to prebuild parts on a bench, but removing the ability from me to make parts on site, i strongly oppose. If i had to run to a bench every time i test out something unplanned, id go ballistic.
I know this suggestion has popped up several times, (even by myself) I’d actually kill for a new menu to deselect some thing. (they add followers to menu, so it can be done)
Or even tabs on some of crafting benches for several rolls. So Artisan Bench or even Carpenter Bench could act as the sub buidling bench.
I like to keep it simple, go to carpenter bench(2nd page), tell it make 10 foundations 10walls, then head out to do what ever. No need lock it to T2 or anything.
Like I suggested in older thread… sandstone should be lv10. branch and fiber homes should be starter thing. Small tents and walls. XD
Temp home, before player is thrust into the… collect stone and wood in massive amounts phase. XD
But thats just me wanting huts and tents. XD
To me, the whole crater bench for building parts, was simply do to having a “thrall” do work so I wasnt standing in my house bored crafting it all. XD
I do not think it would bother me. I have to walk to a bench for every other item we build already. You can take also build and pick-up and take a bench with you to the site. And if it were as cheap as the Artisans, we could make one for a nominal 20 wood.
But it would only be for T2 and T3. T2 building pieces unlock at level 20, and T3 at level 30. Im not sure that we could still class them as a newb at those levels. I guess its matter of interpretation. Players can have Steel weapons and Medium and Heavy armors by these points.
We really need something on consoles. There is no Search Bar, and we have to cycle through 14 sets building pieces just to build a Bedroll or a Campfire.
The ‘thrall’ if it even took one wouldnt be doing anything. We would still have to gather all of the components, place them in the bench, press play, then remove and place the piece manually afterwards.
I don’t think that the crafting of parts should be removed from the character menu, you could have been an architect etc…l before you were knocked out, crucified and left for dead. But a bench could reduce clutter and also maybe streamline some of your building needs. Only reduce crafting time not cost and that saves balance there of having it automated.
I love it!!!
Doh! I thought tritwine was a different type of twine so I didnt even try it.
Thanks for the heads up.
To do construction is a skill that takes years to master and should be the work of a skilled thrall that has no fighting ability ie a bench. Just like being a fighter and survival skills is something that takes long hours and considerable time to master. Too me that is why a T4 fighter is so much better than the player. I see the player as a generalist with limited knowledge in many areas but not highly skilled in any area.
Exactly! The idea of builder thrall/bench fits very well into the game’s world!
It does take years, but what our characters can and can’t do is largely based on us. Like I said before they could have been a noble, they could have been a master craftsman in some way shape or form. They could even have been a gladiator who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even their age is technically up to the one who created them. Maybe they had base knowledge of things and can do it but with more time / a few more resources and a thrall can do it better because they’re more experienced in this. I definitely wouldn’t want to lose the ability to make building pieces away from a bench, but a bench doing it and maybe faster would also be nice.
There is a much easier solution to this add the search bar and also port over the admin panel format. so one tab with structure pieces (foundations, walls, etc), one with stations (blacksmith bench, fluid press, etc), and one with hand craft-able items ( water skin, twine, stone tools etc). I cant imagine that would be super hard as formatting is already there only needs some tweaking.
