A new Battle Pass alternative

Food for thought - @AndyB

I miss the original Battle Pass. I miss the challenges.

Perhaps Funcom could bring the old Battle Pass back, but with players paying for each BP. Say, for arguments sake, 200 Crom Coins. No coin rewards in each BP, just items. Players must pay again to join the next BP.

From a sales point of view, if a single item from a set in the Bazaar, was a reward in the BP, this could induce/encourage players to consider buying the full set from the Bazaar. A win/win for all.

This is just feedback. Add to it if you wish, but don’t expect a reply. I seldom respond in Feedback.

Edit: my usual reply to the ‘Bot‘.

I’ve got cataracts, right eye is real eh. 40% hearing lose in my right ear. Arthur took my fine motor skills and reaction speed years a ago. I’m playing pubG, a game dependent on sharp site, good hearing, and fast reflexes, why?

Daily, weekly, and event challenges. Krafton/tencent has given me a goal beyond the chicken dinner.

That I still get :slightly_smiling_face:

When we lost the battle pass I lost any reason to play daily. From there is wasn’t long till I was playing something else.

Oh the passes on pubg are $5 a month. And I get my 50 hours out of them.

I had a lot of fun with the Battle Pass. It gave me the feeling that I was still achieving something in the game, even after I’d already maxed out.
However, as it turns out, Funcom is barely able to create assets for the bazaar. We’ll get maybe 5 to 10 new items in a 6-month window? So it’s only natural that there won’t be any resources left for the Battle Pass.

But when I look at the crap people are getting with Dune Awakening DLC, it’s probably better this way…

PUBG was made by people that actually play games.

But were talking about the battle pass, which is tencents big thing.

And tencent figure are in that pie too.

The first few battle passes were great, they could be completed with multiple people and it was fun. One of the clan members even returned because of them.

The last BP was different. It couldn’t be completed with multiple people, which wasn’t very motivating to play together.
And then they canceled it altogether—probably because some genius figured out from the numbers that there wasn’t much interest in it anymore…

For me, Funcom had had a bad reputation since Age of Conan. But I let myself be persuaded and started playing CE—and it was great (in 2021).

Right now, Tencent/Funcom embody the worst of corporate culture infiltrating the gaming industry for me.

Yeah, I liked the first few battlepasses. The switch they made to the new one (and then promptly got rid of, sparking questions why they even bothered spending the development time to do it) was not great.

I’ll also mention that I spent more in the Bazaar then. I was logging in more, playing more, etc. I’d be more likely to see something on rotation. But, honestly, my lack of playing isn’t because the lack of the BP, it’s that they’ve changed the game too much in ways that make it less fun. A new BP probably won’t fix that for most people if they feel the same.

It’s true that battle pass was giving you a good reason to play the game for awhile even if you had to repeat things you’ve done a million times before. Now if they added battle pass with unusual activities but not irritating, i would be happier.

Either way, i support the return of the battle pass.

Though I risk being berated by some of my fellow members here, I actually thoroughly enjoyed the Battle Passes for several reasons. The first is that much like Deacon, I found it would drive my engagement and incentivise me to log in and play more frequently. I personally found the battle passes were probably the best part of the whole Age of War. Concurrently, it also offered me alternate tasks to undertake when I felt like playing, but either did not know, or could not decided upon what I felt like doing at the time. Finally, receiving some 50 in game items for $15 (not including CC refunds) was outstanding value in my books. I do not care if not every last item contained within was venerable masterpiece.

Sadly, I know that the probability of the battle pass returning, even in an alternative iteration such as The_Hawke suggests are somewhere between miniscule and non-existant. But hypothetically speaking, I both agree with Hawke’s suggested model and would graciously accept and support any such reimplementation if it meant paying a nominal amount per battle pass. The problem is Funcom’s current unwillingness to take feedback onboard, or do anything outside of the sheer minimim for Conan Exiles. Well aside from cramming more absurdly priced crap into the Bazaar. Sure I can elaborate upon request, but I would wager most members could already name much of the phenomena to which I refer.
