A new trend in purchased armor sets

Greetings to everyone.

I’d like to draw your attention again to the “strange” behavior of the developers of paid armor sets for the bazaar.

I noticed these features of the purchased product back when I was using armor sets in the Vendian style, but with each set I purchased (vassals of the giant kings, Shemitic, Yamatai samurai), this trend became more and more pronounced.

As I’ve already mentioned in some forum posts earlier, armor sets come out with functional shortcomings.

The standard version of the armor consistently lacks stat bonuses and resistance to temperature. The epic version of the armor is free of these drawbacks, but periodically, as, for example, with the new set of the Shemit scientist, it requires the wrong crafting resources: the medium armor set requires resources for light armor.

Someone might say: “Friend, use the spellcrafting table and put the appearance on another armor set, be simpler,” and perhaps they’d be partially right.
But here I’m creating a character — a Shemit, because for his role‑playing I bought Shemit armor and buildings, right? I created him, and I even got the resources for the armor I wanted, but it’s half useless. And I need to run and learn spellcrafting, and then create another set of armor to put the appearance of a Shemit guard on it… It looks like a complete crutch.

Often, the price of one such armor set is almost a third or even a half of the cost of the game itself. If I’m paying money for a picture, I want it to at least be functional.

Colleagues, surely I’m not the only one who’s bothered by this trend? I want Conan Exiles to continue to develop, and even after 4,000 hours, I still feel like playing the game — but these monetization tricks and shoddy practices are starting to really get on my nerves.

@Dana If possible, please comment on this issue.

Sadly, Dana was laid off recently. But please report the issue here: Contact Us — Conan Exiles Help Center

Oh, is that true? So, which developer can I contact on the forum then?

I’ve already described these errors and sent them via the link you provided, but so far the results are exactly the opposite…

Well, you can try contacting Kamil. That’s who is still commenting. We’ll see how helpful they will be.

@Kamil I would be grateful if you could clarify the situation somewhat.

No.

Anything from the bazaar that has any useful features will be labelled “Pay-2-Win” by pvp whiners and somehow FC is in full support of this. All bazaar items serve as decos and nothing more.

This is why we have useless armors, basic tier crafting stations, boxes that are 5 times bigger but have 1/2 storage space.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Could you please send in a bug report for the materials issue? All bug reports go directly to the dev team for further investigation.

You can send a bug report here: Contact Us — Conan Exiles Help Center

The Bazaar items have always been cosmetics only as we do not want to add anything that would give PvE or PvP player any kid of advantage over everyone that doesn’t have said Bazaar item.

Thank you for the response.
Of course, I will describe all these issues in detail once again.

But I’m still confused by the wording: “Provides an advantage to PVP or PVE players” — how can a standard version of armor from the market, with completely average stats, provide anyone with an advantage? The epic version of the Shemitish Guard armor (which still retains its bonuses) still lags behind, for example, the armor set of the Exiled Legion in terms of stats. Why make an already balanced armor worse?

I suspect that the latest armor sets were functionally created using the same template, by the same person, who consistently makes the same mistake. Even the error in localization into my language is always the same.

Has the developer who’s putting these products on the market ever played this game themselves?

You’d be surprised at some of the things people complain about as ‘pay to win’. A content creator started a campaign to get the various specialised storage boxes (like the hide storage, ore storage, etc) banned for being ‘pay to win’. In his mind the ability to put only specific items into a particular storage box was a major advantage. Despite the fact that you could just as easily put down a normal chest, place a few of the specific items in that you want, and then quick store would place only those items into that chest. But that wasn’t acceptable for him, and he raised such a fuss about it that the devs eventually invented the ‘storage master’ perk and a series of wooden chests with symbols on the side denoting what items they can store…

So, yes, it is daft to suggest that this armor would provide an advantage - but you can almost be sure that some idiot would claim it does anyway…

That said - they’ve already had to go back and add stats to a couple of previous recent armor sets, which suggests to me that the situation is more as you are presenting it.

I freely admit that some of the items you can buy give advantages in leveling, but, since anyone can learn how to do everything, it’s a temp advantage.

PvP is all about hitting level 60 ASAP. So the “Pay to Win” content, which I highlight in my streams, is inconsequential.

I wish it was all cosmetice. It’s not. Fine, so use it. Make the Lemurian Axe and Void Forge Dragon Bone armor at level 30, 22 if you bought a T2 Armorer’s bench. It’s part of the game.

Well, this is, of course, pure absurdity.
I still hope that this situation is just a temporary complication, and not a deliberate action that will make the “uniqueness” of items on the market so high that they’ll be selling lanterns without a lighting function for $10 apiece.

I remember the times when I eagerly awaited the release of new DLC sets with a specific theme. Right now, instead of collecting the full Shemitic set, it’s more profitable for me to buy a new full‑fledged game from another developer, where there will be many times more armor and building sets.

And if you take a close look at the sets of the same theme, you’ll see that even so they’re incomplete. Some have missing building elements, and some sets of armor don’t include either a helmet or gloves, even though you can see them in the admin panel.
Someday, when the Acheron building set comes out for $30, I’ll take a look at it and delete the game.

Nothing released on the market can give players an advantage if it’s distributed correctly according to the progression level. The same level 2 forge from the market should unlock when the standard one does. And the same goes for any other items.

If this doesn’t happen, it’s a flaw in the testers’ work that needs to be fixed. But shouting to the whole community that another player is stronger than you because they managed to sort the underwear by color while you didn’t — well, that’s just not respecting yourself at all.

You are incorrect.

I can make a T2 Armorer bench at level 10. This means I can make Epic Armor at Level 22, when I get a dismantling bench. Nott only have I gotten gear that folks who did not spend money cannot get, I have gotten the gear a significant number of levels before they have access to it.

I feel these words are in reply to something someone else said.

Because my words are:

You can reply, or not, but my opinion of your mentation level is diminished.

The thing is, you shouldn’t be getting a tier 2 workbench at level 10 of your character. This is precisely a flaw in the testing process — the testers didn’t distribute items in the market according to their standard counterparts.

You look at the book, you see nothing. First, think about your own mental abilities, and then about others’.

The thing is, I can, because I bought the Bazaar item.

I can only deal in reality. If the game allows an action, the game encourages an action.

Yeah - that was reference to the story I explained about the storage chests that was specifically about a content creator who did so much yelling that the devs added a whole new feat and multiple new chests just to shut him up. I think it was quite a good analogy  (But nothing for you to worry about in your argument.)

I do agree with @WilliamTodd that you shouldn’t be able to get a tier 2 workbench at level 10 - that is where the ‘balance’ part of the bazaar fails. (Equally, you are not wrong that if you have the option, then you are free to use that advantage. The problem is the decision to allow it in the first place.)
But the point in this thread is that the armor sets do not meet the definition of pay to win, with or without their appropriate bonuses, because they are not (and should not be) better than the existing sets. So it makes no sense that these sets should keep being made without any bonuses (and then later fixed to have those bonuses, as has been the case so far - strongly suggesting it is a repeated error).

I agree. The bazaar is ridiculous in many ways right now. That absurdity is one of the reasons that many people are now boycotting it. The even better reason for the boycott being the message that has been sent to the playerbase by Funcom laying off Dana, the best community manager we have had in years. THey appear to be making clear that communication with the playerbase is not remotely a priority. Therefore many players are agreeing to stop spending money on the bazaar in response. If the player numbers stay up, but the profits fall, maybe that will get the message across that communication is considered important.

We completely agree. I wish all DLC and Bazaar items were cosmetic.

I think the best way to get this under consideration is to show that it unbalances the game. I don’t need an advantage, but I won’t ignore it.

Pay2Win = NO

Pay2Lose = YES

That’s what’s happening here.

They chose T1s at level 0 instead of T2s at levels they should be, basically turning every bazaar crafting station useless, and making buyers feel like losers.

I am not against pvp balancing. I just don’t understand why FC thinks Pay2Lose is a good idea of balancing.

I don’t know what game you’re playing, but if a player runs for an hour in the starting river killing mobs will become lvl 20 . If the same person decides to get a couple hundred aloe leaves and go to the south jungle to kill apes and gorillas will become lvl 40 . If then he decides to go on Northern jungle and more particularly to the sobek cave he’ll end up having epic vitality armor and dragon bone- serpent man weapons , again epic . If he returns to the unnamed city, maximum in 4 hours since he started playing he’ll become lvl 60 with full legendary gear before he even decides to build a home, just tossing to the ground the unnecessary…

More experienced players can be 60 in a couple hours without great effort…

So why this argument again??? What makes you think that this game has anything to do with balance, there’s zero, it’s opportunistic, not progressive!

I’m writing through a translator, but I still think I’m conveying my thoughts clearly enough.
I’m telling you about unfinished things for money, and you’re telling me about the balance. I’m telling you about technical errors with the booking, and you’re telling me about the balance. It feels like someone is really afraid of losing the opportunity to level up to 60 in a couple of hours…

I don’t care whether you level up for a week, a month, or a couple of hours. I do care about the product I’m buying for a lot of money — and it’s also partly useless.

Technically, a second-level workbench is available at player level 20; this should be the case for any alternative second-level workbench, and the character’s progression speed has nothing to do with it at all.
