Some of you might have seen the debacle that happened on official server 1021, Funcom does not want to act on what happened.
What happened on 1021 can thus happen to anyone that plays on an Official PVE server. The server went down and came back up some time later. However it came back up with the settings as if you are playing on your local server with the most important the option that chests are accessible to everyone on.
This means for everyone on PVE that this can happen to your server, your base, your hundreds or even thousands of hours of gathering. If other players can enter any part of your base trough something like a portal, an open door or just windows to reach trough and access chests, workbenches, Wheels of pain, altars etc they can steal everything from you without repercussions.
My advice, close everything down, replace windows with walls, don’t share portals unless there are no portals with access to your hoard.
I joined an official Siptah server not too long ago before the merge. The server had the same issue of boxes and stations being opened to the public. The only way to secure was them was behind a door. This was treated as a server feature, people built with the new players in mind. Allowing access to all the crafting stations near starting areas and minimal donated resources. There were disassembly stations near most portal hubs and areas farmed consistently. I leveled, clanned with a friend, and had a nice ship build that complemented their pirate city, around the time the transfers opened, the server “reverted” to being pvp. The settings flip flop several times and when it stayed as pvp, it took less than 24 hours for the scum of society to come through and wipe out the years worth of work. I think that was the final straw for my friend, they play only solo now and I think quit recently all together. So keep that in mind going forward, there was no warning, no admin message, nothing other than a few of us noticed that the server settings stated pvp in small print in the menu.
Back in early access all containers were open to everyone on official servers. Ever sense then I have always built in a manner that assumed that people would be able to access my chests / benches / whatever regardless of the settings. So I have never used windows expect in areas where I stored nothing at all. Granted, I haven’t played on an official server probably since early access either.
Since we are able to lock our chests and it’s no longer necessary to put items on your bench in order to craft something, this mechanism should stay this way permanently.
It’s not about stealing but sharing. I ask for years “charity tables” . If i can put chests outside my base, or anyone else with a sign take all you wish , it will probably give me a good reason to return on lands Pve.
Other than that it would be awesome to have a mechanism that allows only drops in chests without looting. This way i can provide to an offline player without the danger that someone else will loot it .
I know that it seems frightening, but please fellow Pve exiles think of the possibilities a mechanism like it could bring and see the good also . It’s not difficult to lock our chests for valuables.
Until you go over some mysterious undisclosed number of benches/containers… then you won’t be able to pull anything unless you are 2 foundations away or less.
All these years i never gave crafting orders away from benches anyway .
I never placed benches on inaccessible ways, not even on PvP servers. I love order and clean paths in my house, this game have so many details and numerous materials work in numerous benches.
