I can not wait to get my hands on the update and the new DLC. Speaking of the DLC I open this topic to say that I am a little disappointed by the appearance of the straw foundations. Do not get me wrong I do not question the overall quality of this DLC and I find that once again Funcom artists have done a good job. But I’m disappointed to see that straw is just a rough texture applied to the DLC’s wooden foundation model. It does not matter that the straw is not modeled and that it is only a texture, what disturbs me is that the straw takes the form of the other foundations, which gives a weird aspect to the ground.
Wasn’t it possible to make a simple cube with a straw texture? And make sure the cubes stick together seamlessly? I know I can seem demanding but I find it really bad, especially for paid content. What do you think?
honestly I think some modders can do much better than that, that does smirk of lazyness /afterthought, just throw a texture on it, if they had at least used the aquilonian block it would be square and uniform
It seems lazyness for me too, yet it probably would not have taken more time to make a simple cube, and it would not have been more complicated either. Then it would have been necessary to ensure that the textures from one block to another are joined so that there is no demarcation, but it seems to me not insurmountable for content that they want to sell.
I kinda have mixed feelings about it.
I completely agree with you on “make sure the cubes stick together seamlessly” especially in marble floor cases like Turan and Aquilonian (the fact that Turan wedge foundations and ceilings don’t stick together seamlessy really gets on my nerves).
However this seems mainly like a wooden construction where the excess straw would have been stepped on by horses and people. Kinda like in a barn, there would be gaps in the construction and the floor. For me personally it kinda adds to the charm of it.
Of course this is by seeing one picture only. I might change my opinion once I see how wedges look against squares.
Not a good look. There are no clean edges when straw is scattered on the floor. Never. This just looks like they were rushed to get it released. It seems every DLC is extremely rushed. Meet the deadline and people will buy it anyway.
Finally got around to use these DLC foundations. I think I’m definitely gonna go with the unpopular opinion in this tread: I like to see the ends of the foundations, or separation between them.
I understand it’s really irritating for some people but to me the effect is actually the opposite. The “seamlessness” of the wedge foundations really, really irks me. It’s just not natural. Every natural floor that you walk on in your life you will see seams where the pieces join, be it wood, stone, marble to give a few examples. It’s part if the flooring characteristic.
However, the hay wedge foundation is completely seamless to the point where you can’t have any idea if it’s clipping trough each other or not. It’s like someone printed this texture in a dreafull, dreafull pvp linoleum - too much “hospital” feel for me. I don’t mind the square foundations with the separations, (and it’s not a big gap if you compare it to T3 reinforced for example) but the seamless wedges, I don’t like it at all.
I would accept a more seamlessly feel in this case, but would still add a slightly visible line (not a gap), just like you see in Aquilonian.
However, way more jarring that this is the complete lack of clue in the stable foundations of which direction are the boards facing before placing them. How are we to get them to place on the direction that we want so the boards all face the same way, when we don’tt have a visual guide on the preview?
Also. windows. Why are there no windows in this DLC? Who thought this would be an amazing idea? sure you can use the doors, but you’re not gonna do that for a two story and above building… Any stable or barn with no windows is either unrealistic or very depressing… there is no other wooden window that goes really well with it…
