Age of War - Chapter 4 Q&A

Hello,
When will official PVP servers get some attention?
-Official Solo,Duo,Trio servers.
-Humain raid times.
-Message pop up on screen when your base is beeing damaged.
-More variation in choice when choosing a official server.Different raid times, gather
rates,etc…
-Cheating pandemic.(Clans who have played legit for years are resorting to
cheating to avoid getting raided 7 days a week.)
-Report meta.(Cant beat a clan by playing?Simply report them till they get banned.)
-Team damage should be equal to enemy damage.Nothing more frustrating then
getting killed, because the enemy team knows they cant hurt their teammates; So
they simply zerg on the player giving him no chance to a fair fight…
-Target lock on official has been mentioned for years.(Turn it off on some servers
and see if they are more popular.)
Thank you

*Disclaimer: this is purely for AndyB should you ever find yourself reading this post. Please know that the feedback I provide in this post is, I repeat NOT directed toward you. I know neither you nor the other CMs are developers and do not handle new or strategic design or balancing decisions. This is directed towards them, and more specifically their decision making here. Not yourself.

It is weird. I have plenty to say racing around inside my head. But I feel like I am lacking clarity and direction. Something uncommon for me. So here goes, I’m just going to out with a whole bunch of it.

Answering the questions you say? More like Begging the Question (the fallacy) as opposed to actually answering one. This reads like a scripted, internally generated PR statement, rubber stamped by a corporate board room. Or better yet you know what it reminds me of? Anyone out there remember the story of the ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, the folklore classic by Danish literary Hans Christian Anderson. The emperor delivers his address from high atop his podium assured of his own grandeur and eloquence while the crowd of onlookers sees right through the charade. That is what this reminds me of. They did not “address” or for that matter even acknowledge feedback by the playerbase. All you did here was share the thoughts reverberating around your own echo chamber with the rest of us. Else we would now be staring at a different outcome, juxtaposed to a vacuous, manufactured corporate reply.

You say the Sword of Crom has always been a problem child!? Good. Reminds me of mighty Crom himself, his loyal followers in the Cimmerian nation, and let us not forget Conan himself. For over over 4 years now the Sword of Crom has offered a unique and interesting mechanic this amazing game. But it looks like the very thing which made it so unique and interesting is about to disappear forever. What a waste. So permit me to theorise what has transpired here, and the rest of the community can tell me if they think I am onto something here. A tiny, albeit very vocal minority, who after 6 years is still seemingly incapable of dodging a greatsword, has once again cried for a nerf. And while the majority has again stepped forward and called for restraint, correctly illustrating that this proposed change is both a detriment and blatantly uneccessary, it has again fallen on deaf ears. And just like that, another once great Legendary items has been sissified and descended into generic mediocrity and casualization. So much for the pledge to make Legendaries truly legendary again. Because here is how the stands right now:

  • durability- sad
  • RNG grind to obtain- excessive
  • setting it apart from other greatswords- non-existant
  • damage- horrible, just utterly horrible

So this is the best Crom item his followers can hope to use in the game now? I mean, why did we even bother to reply to the player feedback survey if the vast, overwhelming majority of it is just going to be ignored and brushed aside.

Its possible (wont know till we get the new devkit) the drop rate is higher. I went looking for it in the new update and had it same day.

Thankyou very much for sharing this with me darthphysicist. No I really do mean it. I can only hope so. But I fear it will take more than that to comfort this tortured soul at the moment.

Unfortunately, the drop rate (if it is improved) seems scant comfort if there is no longer any value to having the weapon. (But, as Croms_Faithful said, thank you for the attempt to find a positive  )

Hey @AndyB ,

With this as the reason, I would like to petition that just large wells be allowed to hold fish traps again.

@AndyB

This is the first part I have an issue with. This is YOUR OFFICIAL FORUM and yet you ignore it and it’s users consistently. You do not post when you put up new items on twitch streams. You do not even ask for feedback here, you just post here what the “most asked questions” were from your “socials”. This is where your dedicated fanbase has been for OVER FIVE YEARS and yet you ignore it.

This is one of the dumbest decisions you could have possibly made, and your “reason” behind it is utter rubbish. And what makes this decision even worse is that two more of your horrid decisions compound just how bloody awful this decision actually is! For one, we now have a chest full of dyes. Except we can no longer custom sort those dyes, we can cannot sort them by colours, or how we want to sort them at all, we are forced into your pre-determined sorting patterns and have to search for them which will be tedious to the extreme. THEN on top of that we cannot precise split the amount of dye off and take just what we need. No no no, THAT would be far too convienent right? No, now we have to split the stack in half, then in half, then in half, then hope we have it down to an amount ‘close enough’ and restack all the other stacks back together. And naturally this will have to be in our own personal inventory since there willl be no space to do this in the chest. rolls eyes. Yes, what a lovely feature we have working already. NOW we have our five stacks of the various colours we want to use, so we have to strip naked and toss all of those dye bottles AND our armor into the gigantic bench and apply the dye IN the bench. OH but you removed the ability to just right click and put your armor back on so it’s not left click and drag each and every piece because that’s soooooooo much easier right?

So, now that we have a general description of how the new dye system will actually work, and how not just one or two changes will effect it, but at least 4 changes (all negative changes as well), can you explain to me how you can justify this change? Can you explain how this change to the dye system will in any way shape or form be an improvement to player experiance? Because I can guarantee you that it will be 100% despised by all.

Oh and one last thing, if you felt so bloody bad that you needed to “justify the physical space taken up by the workstation” of the dyeing bench…F***ING MAKE IT SMALLER! Solution to your entire problem was that simple. Make a smaller freakin dye bench.

I am sorry, but I call BS on this. There is nothing “quirky” about a LEGENDARY weapon with a lower durability than an iron weapon. That is just disgraceful and disrespectful. AND on top of that you also lowered it’s damage so it no longer is even the highest base damage 2h Sword, and you reduced it’s armor pen as well. This nerf is just a slap in the face.

So, this decision, along with dyes, was to completely and utterly destroy user experience? That is exactly what these two decision will do. They will make this game an absolutely horrid experience (along with the other changes I mentioned in the dye feedback). So if your goal is to destroy your users experience then bravo! Mission accomplished! You pretty much already did that last age with removing the mouse facing camera, you know… that little thing that has been in the game since early access and is in just about every PC game… Yeah, that pretty much made the game not worth playing. These new changes are exactly the same, they are making the game not worth playing.

As someone who had played Age of Conan for 8 years straight (per-ordered the collectors edition) and has been playing Conan Exiles since early access I must say this. I am extremely disappointed in your recent decisions and for the last couple of months when my mouse hovers over the icon for Conan Exiles I physically cannot make myself click on it. That is how bad your recent updates have been, and this new update will be just as bad if not worse. So @AndyB maybe if you spent more time engaging with your faithful playerbase here on your official forum and less time with the “socials” you might actually see what your players want. Because this… this is NOT it.

I agree with about 90% of what you’re saying.
The only thing you got wrong is the claim that they get different feedback or even listen to what they get from social media.
Social media is so popular its pretty much guaranteed more conan players use it than use the forums. You can bet your *** though that they are getting the same feedback there as they are here. It’s not that they’re ignoring forum feedback, they’re ignoring ALL feedback.

So let me get this straight. Sorcery not only has no new updates in a literal war like setting, but the purge enemies get to have a meteor mage that destroys that nice building you would of made. On top of that you nerfed bearers which are often used in corrupted build due to thralls lack of hp regen and the shared hp when damage. We already have half the Hp of a normal player and then you want to not only give purges more sorcery options for the enemies but nerf the corrupted play style which is only way to play sorcery you give the enemies these cool things with no way for your character to do these things. The idea of age of war without addition from previous chapters is insane. The idea is worse when you nerf the one thing that could make war actually like a war. It would been cool if that one friend who was corrupted could make a barrier with spell just for meteors

This one wants to take a more collected moment.

There are changes being made to the game.
Especially the Inventory UI.
What value do they add to the game?

Having putzed about on the test server, this one finds none.
Especially compared to the Thrall UI which seems to be an upgrade.

What was the idea behind these changes?
Why was it decided that, rather than any other task, forcing the use of the Dye Bench and Removing the ability to fine tune stack splitting was something that merited dev time?
Why would stripping persistent custom organization of the inventory be considered something to work on before, say, bringing thralls to the orb of Nergal?
Or adding more detailed descriptions to the craft menu for gear?
Perhaps fixing the collision boxes for many of the newer placeables?

This one asks because another change occured that was explained.
Bearers were hard nerfed.
The explanation given was to strengthen role distinction, ensuring that they could not step on Fighter toes.
But the Cimmerian Berzerker’s ranged damage modifier didn’t get reduced so that they aren’t better Archers than the majority of named Archers.
There are still named Fighters who have melee damage modifiers of less than 1.0
The priority of taking away from the player is echoed there. Further, the selective application of this role distinction balancing is a little, how do the kids say, Sus.

What is the vision that this game is being developed along? Where are you going with this, because right now, all this one sees is change for the sake of change, often to detriment of those who play.

Oh, and for those wondering, the feedback on other social media is about the same as here.

I can answer all these questions. First high hp pool with little damage. Works perfectly with corrupted build which is exact opposite low hp high dps. It helps balance that factor when it comes to U.I of inventory. You see when I go on a quest I run out of inventory space quite often. So much so I can’t make it far when exploring with normal thralls and pets aren’t options anymore because they have been nerfed they typically die in few hits not to mention some weird bug now in vanilla that makes them stuck in place but because no one bothers with them or plays enough with pets to realize some of them do this now. The map is too big for as little inventory you can carry unless your going full modded and cheat your build so it can include max expertise. I considered multiple ideas behind these changes. 1 creators are masochists who just enjoy watching people suffer, 2 they are slowly trying to get rid of thralls all together because they want a good public image, 3 They have finally reached limit of what game can handle and can’t add much more content, 4 Like every game company that makes pc game in hopes individuals will mod the content. By the way the classification of thralls Was Fighter, Archer, Performer, and Bearer. Bearer=Tank Fighter=melee dps Archer= Long Range Dps Performer=Healer. Pretty standard and a great idea considering the fact of War Party a skill that could benefit from this. So getting rid of core mechanic of this skill by making these type of thralls was important. So you could fill in a role if needed. You are a part of War Party. Don’t act high and mighty. I asked all these questions before posting because throwing away a core mechanic that seems intentional for war party then removing something like that shows that there is no care for the bone the structure they made for game. If you want to nerf don’t do hard nerf of a purposeful function that allows better creativity for war parties with thralls. And almost every build. If you do a nerf be reasonable don’t make the tank have less hp then a fighter by the way most tanks carry things in almost every bit of fiction

Welcome to the forum :hugs:.
That’s incorrect.
I really love your playstyle, i remember i was using this perk of sorcery to split damage and when i read from you that it’s nerfed i got sad. Thanks for sharing :metal:.
But allow me to share gaming experience fellow exile .
Pets are not useless, no matter if Dennis try to present them like lower than thralls.

Sabertooth has at least 7k hp and massive dmg at lvl 20. If you use the sorcery perk with “frenzied” too it hits like hell and have better capacity from a fighter that won’t fight in most of the fights .

Frost giants…
They go really high hp, from 8K to 14k, they do not stagger, they basically act like the mob kind and again have better inventory from a fighter. However they are a bit problematic on caves.

Camels (fighters not mount) …
This is something i discover a couple days ago, i am still in progress…
Dude, she is lvl 15 and have 20k hp… 20k!
Of course she does not fight…
But 20k hp lvl 15?
Pretty amazing i say. And i only fed her seeds and fiber :rofl::rofl:.

That’s what I’m wondering about, too.

Some changes made in the last months are questionable, but some have a reasoning behind them or could have worked out better.

But almost all of them let’s one ask the question about priorities.

If a guy or gal with UI skills has time, why change the dye bench or splitting stacks? Why not add stat desciptions to weapons and armor like a popular mod did?

If there’s capacity to mess up - sorry: improve - the camera and combat system, why not improve thralls’ skills to use combos? Yes, some weapons got improvements, but daggers for example still don’t work. Fixing that would have been welcome and avoid any chance for controversy.

The tavern system… it still just baffles me. It’s a cool idea and all, seems almost free of bugs or weird design choices, is a novel system, but looks like a lot of complex work. Why not add the missing corrupted attributes before starting something completely new?

I can understand that fixing and completing half-finished projects isn’t always the most fun part of work, may require a little more effort to advertise with and so on.

But please, Funcomians, stop fixing what isn’t broken at least. To be frank, if I could revert the game to the end of AoS, I would. The changes are a net detriment at least for me. I’m sorry to be so frank, but you leave us little choice in this.

Additional thought/question -
Why was this gaslighting nonsense put out last thing on a Friday?
Could it perhaps be intended as a way to bury it? An easy way for Funcom to ignore the feedback received about how they have ignored the feedback?
Or is the intent to deliberately ensure that players are as irritated as possible before the community team finally joins the conversation? (Closes the conversation? We’ve all witnessed that the community team’s only interactions with these forums are now one hour per week closing bug reports. Is that the intent here, or will they return after the weekend and say they’ve ‘listened to our feedback’, then go ahead and do the exact opposite anyway?)

Whatever the case, this feedback isn’t going away. But I do think an increasing number of players may be.

If I could revert the game to when Riders of Hyboria DLC was released, I would. (Not a joke - while there have been things added since that were net positives, there have been so many negatives that I would rather they just revert the last four years of development and leave the game alone.)

In all of the years that I have played this game, I have never been able to click ‘Yes’ to the Steam question of whether I would recommend this game to others. I take that question seriously, and even when I was enjoying the game I saw the many flaws and bugs and wasn’t sure that the average player would be so forgiving of them. At this point I am finally verging towards having an answer - ‘No. I would not recommend this game to other players.’

For me (probably many of us here) this is my favourite game that I have played. That is why it is so frustrating when it is so consistently messed up by updates - both their flawed application (bugs, more bugs, new bugs, the return of old bugs that have previously been fixed, etc) and the poor decisions behind them. For Funcom to then try to gaslight the player base by claiming they’re doing these things because of player feedback just adds to the frustration.

Talk about stating the obvious. I think the question on most peoples minds was not ‘will Al Merayah be removed from the game’, but rather ‘will the <1 minute respawn timer for Al Merayah be adjusted’.

This had already been explained to players previously.

Specious reasoning. I fondly remember it used to be great fun as a newer player to loot a dye and apply it to our coarse clothing or light hide armor while adventuring.

Already covered it. Terrible idea. But to hell with the majority right. Lets ignore the 90% to give the 10% what they want. Brilliant.

Happy I can say something positive here fantastic. By all means continue sorting through the issue. We all look forward to moving a back towards the previous combat iteration, a step at a time in the right direction. :+1:

Hate to break it to you all but this does not enhance the user experience, it detracts from it, and heralds a regression in the games interface system. It is less precise and more time consuming. I have not seen so much as one single member thus far who prefers this to what we have now.

This aside, the new event looks very interesting, and the Balistas will make a fine addition to the game.

Do you have plans on making stamina matter in the game again?

What do you want to do with the combo based combat system that only works in PvE because in PvP everyone just rolls away on the first attack because there is no stamina limitation/penalty?

Do you have plans on changing how dodge roll animation canceling works because dodge rolls are free because of stamina not mattering (heavily abused on OP bows)?

Would you consider removing rotation during attacks to increase the skill cap in the game again so players can be rewarded for good aim and good movement and predictions?

Conan used to be great game and fun to play.
I would ban them to make changes to my game if I could.

They say they listen to players.
I dont know which ones. Clearly not us

Gives your storage more options, the move stacks; that I loved in enshrouded, makes it easier to sort and empty your pack. I like it or can adjust to it.

The issue is funcom killed the right mouse button in the menus. You can no longer take a potion by clicking the right mouse button, now you have to select the potion, then select use. May not be a big thing but in a tense situation that extra second in a menu you cost you your character.

More over you can’t right click anything in your thralls menu to get your thrall to use it. Food, potions, tattoos, are all a couple extra steps.

I may not like it but I can adjust to it.

I’ve said it before so you know I’ll say it again, we need a player counsel. Now it’s my opinion that Conan is being developer for one person, the lead dev. Not us players. And I’m sorry, that person might get all excited and giggly for the new bazaar items but most players are looking for FIXES. Upgrades that make the game more enjoyable, changes that make the game more fun, additions that make the game more playable. And apparently what we think those things are, are different then the lead devs.

No I don’t want to be on it but I’d know who’d I recommend.

Paragraphs, learn what they are.

It’s called selective looting. Do you really need all those taxidermied animals? Paintings? stone weapons ect You getting over loaded is because you are a loot addict. I was one once too, but when you have 5 chests of branches you realize you need to join looters anonymous.

More over on PVE, single player, and private servers you can have a maproom at each obelisk so can just jump home then jump back.

Pets are now ornaments. I used to snag a hyena pet to carry stuff early on in game. Now pets die faster then they train. They are just RP ornaments.

I’d have more question but they only let me play my beta server character all of 4 days. Transfered the NA charters to an EU server, then closed the server
