Al Mera yah is removed? 😭

I read stuff like this and have to pause.
I can practically go on any PVE server right now and with in half an hour find a build 3 times that size. So if that is lagging down the server what effect do you think the average mega base has on it?

Still pushing for that permanent Stygian raider base; purge style.

I believe it’s more practical to explain what i will miss…

Yes in the beginning of this fortress i was a bit disappointed. I expected it to be more pveish than pvpish…
But soon i adjusted with the concept and start to see it with different eyes, because it was fun, real fun actually.

Yes it was our fast Musashi, our fast hardened steel short sword, our fast food, our fast buff and our fast growth in terms of wealth. I even made some speed runs using Al Mera yah as the weapon choice. The timer was not bad only 13 minutes slower than the old, no big deal.

But the people that i had fun in it…
The excitement of constant npc respawn and the plurality of the voices in the vocal, but mostly whohoo and laughter…

I will really miss this…

Erich… They will vanish our playground brother . Stand by me!

Are you sure it was R.E.H.? (Robert E. Howard).
Perhaps I’m mistaken, but it strikes me as something one of his successors may have done.

Xuthal of the Dusk (Slithering Shadow) was written by REH.

Its one of the stories referenced for Conan Exiles, the other being A Witch Shall be Born (CE takes place between those two stories chronologically).

Siptah?
That’s amusing.
Didn’t they previously note that all further development would be Exiled Lands only?

/Targeted response.

As for the material choice for the Stygian fort…

This one agrees that the reinforced brick look is not good for the Stygian invasion forces.

If they ever revisit destructible enemy fortifications, this one hopes they do so with tight coherency.

Of course, the Invaders are also wearing Khari armour, rather than the heavy Stygian scale armour (from the base game).
Or the Invader set that already is in game…

This one is…
Ambivalent?
Meh.
This one will note that the fortress is well designed (from a historical multiple curtain wall perspective) and teaches the very basics of PvP and breaching, especially in what doesn’t work when building fortifications against players.
But it’s also a lag beast.

Let’s be honest, the real treasure being lost isn’t even the gold…
It’s the Musashi spawn followed by the high end healing items and food the trash mobs drop that is really being lost.

Otherwise, it’s not actually that much fun to raid is it?
After the first couple of times, what’s the purpose? The clown car is more annoying (to this one) than anything, and the cost in all the performance and loss of a useful camp… it’s not grand.

After blowing it up once, and summoning some avatars on it… Where is the joy?

You fail to take into consideration what type of armor they are wearing. Are they wearing chain, or chain with a gambeson underneath? One sword ā€œacross the chestā€ is not exactly likely to kill them, or even really scratch them in such a case. So considering the armor options available in game, things are a bit more realistic than you might assume (though still absurdly unrealistic ).

How so? Do you even realize how many times there have been calls to remove Al-Mere? Sounds like they were pretty in touch with the community when they made this decision. Maybe it is you who are out of touch instead. :woman_shrugging:

True…
But we can say the same thing about every single dungeon this game has .

However, from all the dungeon activities we did together and with other people, wasn’t Al Mera yah the one that we struggled more from the constant spawn and the lag fest of course and we had more excitement than all the other dungeons. Wasn’t the most creative dungeon in the part that you could use more than one ways to raid it and have fun?
Al Mera yah starting it from the very first gate with you and @Wonka, or @Kazalakis or @Bloodshed_Barbie gave us a ton of excitement with the constant spawn, it was the lag fest that was destroying the situation a little bit although we see this difficulty as extra for joy .

Al Mera yah gave us good gaming moments brother and i will miss them.
I loved to raid this fortress with you by my side, even if you were coming most of the times low lvl because you just started a new character in the server.

Yes we have purges, so i hope at least that now that Al Mera yah will go, purges will run better… But how come that Siptah hasn’t Al Mera yah is is running purges as shi.t as exile lands and worst?

I don’t believe that the reason Al Mera yah is removed has to do with better performance, although it may help a bit and that’s a fact!

There most certainly are castles in the Hyborian Age that Robert E. Howard created. Most of the cultures had castles. Have you read any of Robert E. Howard’s stories? Even the Stygians had castles.

That’s sort of the point.
The struggle was purely due to clown car and lag fest.
That’s not a good thing.

The fun was the other people we attacked with.
This one did not find the jank fun. It’s like drinking. When one does it with friends, it can be fun and amusing… But doing so alone, doing it for it’s own sake… It’s just sad.

The challenge was when the decision was made to headbutt the front door rather than make a tactical entry.

While yes, it is good to be able to tackle a challenge in multiple ways…
It’s somewhat less good when the thing being showcased, the ā€œintendedā€ way to approach (using siege engines, ect) is also one of the least effective options.

This one has fond memories, but isn’t sad to see it go.
It should have, in this one’s opinion, been an Age of War temporary event anyway.

But be honest…
Would you miss this house of jank half as much if the guaranteed Musashi weren’t going with it?

Still wondering why it lagged the server I was on. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the half a dozen bases built around it that were half again to twice it’s size.

I mean I’m sure all those thralls in those keeps that were in aggro distance and started attacking the guards as soon as they were in range, didn’t count as part of your party so the game wouldn’t have spawned in Stygian guards by the dozen till the server crashed.

You all are really remembering a different castle then I am.

I am honest all the time, open and you know it. We both agreed and tried to push the idea that Musashi should be on the final boss room and not where it was.
Grinding is not something that bothers me and you have seen it . I can grind endless hours to get what i wish.
What kept people from charging against the npcs both on this fortresses or purges is the fatality system that has nothing to do with Al Mera yah.
Lag fest and desync is everywhere.

But anyways!
I loved playing there with you and yes you are right i am very sentimental brother. Other than that we can have fun everywhere, even an armorer bench :sign_of_the_horns:. As long as people are happy to play together, no matter where, they’ll always find the way. But this fortress left me good memories and i believe that it’s important feedback before it’s gone forever!

I hope they remove it for now but bring back a scaled down version. Something like New Asagard, Black Galley, but with proper gates etc.

Here is my idea: Make Al Merayah a returning event like headhunting and sacred hunt, where when you want to start a purge Stygians attack your base. Outside of the event have other factions attack your base…maybe the way it used to be, before the purge revamp.

Stygian warparties patrol the various map locations and killing them gives you items to turn in at vendors for armors, weapons, etc. during the event.

And place it in the great empty deserts of unnamed city.

The best way to it would be to make it as server seting, desabling or enabling.
unless they plan to put something else in its place.

Sure, and if you come across a knight in full armor, youd be a smarter warrior to go up against him with a piercing weapon.

Realism

They all still take a toll on server performance, but the pve castle more so because they had overlayed building pieces in certain places ontop of the constant npc spawn in the high numbers.

How would that make any difference?

That would do nothing for official servers, especially those on consoles. The BEST thing they could have done was make it an instanced dungeon that you teleported to and not something that was on the map. You go to the area, interact with something and POOF you teleport to where the camp is set up. That would negate the whole issue with the frame rate drops, for the most part anyway.

In order to create something big they had to remove a camp of npcs.
All the other spots were already occupied from players, but unnamed city not, because players cannot build in there . There are huge desert parts in the unnamed city that a smaller fortress can be builded.
Siege weapons were not the way and sooner or later every player who tried this method didn’t bother to do it second time.
Avatars was not the way either although Derketo with the venom breath could give you the win without breaking any wall.
People preferred to destroy walls behind the boss room and use gas arrows to finish the job.
So the new fortress can have any dlc or bazzar walling, but vanilla doors, so people can break only doors and pass from stages inevitable.
Every stage you achieve to complete should have something rewarding but the greatest rewards should lay on the final stage of course. The leader should have plenty of bodyguards with high hp as well so the difficulty should be good enough and the spawn rate more relaxed than it is right now.
Yes the spawn rate we have right now is an excitement, but it can be handled because you have pretty big space to respond in this madness. When the space is smaller, these spawn rates in these numbers are insane difficulty and no matter how much i would love that, i believe that it would be just me who love it .
Other than that, i believe that the lag fest is owned on the fast spawn rates than the size of the building.
And yes on this part i totally agree with you @DeaconElie, it was not the size that was causing performance issues.

You finally back tracked the large army of Stygian raider the laid siege to your keep recently. It has lead you to a huge transportory stone, while standing there a scouting part transes in.
Once victory is yours you find a blood stone key. The key unlocks the pad so now you can transport to the massive Stygian keep and take the battle to them.
