I’m ranting about it because I’m in the process of upgrading from Sandstone to Insulated Wood and Stonebrick for my ‘winter home’.
…and apparently the build pieces adjacent to the build piece you want to replace “lock in” what orientation you can use; the arrow only flips up/down or left/right. I have to delete the entire stack and all the adjacent pieces then re-lay each piece.
Yes, a bug report was made. But I’m annoyed. So I’m also going to post a complaint post.
Yeah, this one gets me fairly regularly too. I was building a set of stairs the other day up to the front of the new base I’m working on (stepped foundations). Every time I needed to make a change I had to delete multiple pieces then construct several extra pieces around the bit that I wanted to place, then place that so I could get proper alignment, then delete all the extras again. Sometimes this game just does not want to allow proper alignment…
Hasn’t that been an issue in Legacy already? I vividly remember that being a thing. And thanks for the report.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s ‘always’ been like this.
Foundations that are locked in to 2 opposite orientations, columns that are locked in the same way and… the true almost unbeatable World Boss: sloped inverted walls (gasps in horror)
I feel your frustrations, we all do. Rant warranted. Hope they can one day fix these building issues, been there a long, long time. Still have to say, I enjoy the build system in Conan Exiles way more than any other build/survival game I’ve tried. Doesn’t mean I’m ok with these issues though.
Hey Inflexion - could you work with Multigun to get some LBPR features into the main game? Might help with this stuff? Stupid idea or no?
It happens a lot. A lot of pieces have to be placed in a certain order and direction, and some behave differently when they’re placed compared to when they’re moved. When you try to build in tight spaces, you’ll run into these bugs/glitches pretty often. It’s much easier to build bigger, but that can get you banned or cause arguments with other players.
Unfortunately, as I understand it (and I definitely didn’t understand all of it, lol) something about the new engine makes it pretty much impossible to bring LBPR to CEE at all…On the other hand, there was also a rumour that the devs might consider customising the engine a little to make it more possible - but I get the impression that would be down the line if at all (and may just have been rumour…)
This is why I keep hounding Steve about a “Lock Facing” toggle. Think of all the problems we could solve. Just sayin.
Oh I’m well aware of why. I just like tormenting you about it
Also lock facing would not actually have solved any of the problems I’ve been having with my current building - my problems were all centered around it locking the facing to directions I didn’t want. and not letting me rotate to the ones I did want…
Ya, seems to be if the piece is surrounded and NOT the bottom piece (haven’t tested if there can be a piece on top still). Then it looks it to either the same direction as the bottom piece or the opposite direction.
Yeah, that’s long been a thing with foundations - if you’re going more than one layer deep, you have to get the bottom layer all aligned correctly or they’ll absolutely prevent the layer above from taking correct alignment. What gets weirder is that every now and then you’ll get a situation where the bottom one is correctly aligned but the one above gets stuck between the two cross alignments - I think that only happens with using different sets (like set A has a different internal alignment to set B). As others have said, CE has one of the best build systems of any survival game out there, but it also gets really strange (and frustrating) sometimes…
I use to place door frames for replacement of the wall and then it allowed me to place the face of the wall as i wish. Since we don’t loose materials, this option helped me a lot.
Hey Dan
Yeah I’ve seen Multigun’s comments in the BBB Discord about the issues with bringing LBPR to UE5, requiring a fix from Inflexion to get it up and running. I’m not really talking about all of LBPR in my previous comment though. Multigun has said he is expecting an update from Inflexion hopefully on 9th June that may allow the engine level issues preventing LBPR launch from happening (but it may still be a bit longer before he can get actually get the mod working and launched after that). Fingers crossed we’re getting closer to LBPR UE5. Remaining patient till whenever it happens.
Just thinking it’d be cool if they could eventually bring some of the features of LBPR to the base game to help avoid some of the frustrations of building / snapping.
Oh it would definitely be cool if they could do that. At least for us. I suspect that the reason they don’t would be that it could be very difficult to fully protect PVP from the effects. The more closely things can be placed together, the more potential there seems to be for someone to find a way to exploit it in PVP. (The example I always remember is that going back far enough, placeables used to be possible to place much closer together - so some PVPers found they could place enough of them in a tight enough area that if an enemy placed a bomb nesr their base, the server would crash and the logs would blame the enemy… As a result, Funcom expanded the exclusion zones around pieces to stop that exploit - coincidentally making the DLC chessboard unusable in vanilla because the exclusion zones around the pieces were bigger than the squares on the board…). So, much as I would love to see elements added to the base game, it would have to be done with extreme care.
Thanks for the update on the status of LBPR - as you say, fingers crossed.
