The private server that I play on has been locked down for the past three days. No one is able to log in. We all get “Authentication Failure” when we try to connect. The server owner insists this is a Funcom error and points to a 2023 forum thread (which had no resolution). The problem is, it is only effecting this one server. I have been able to log on to multiple other servers without issues. Does anyone have any suggestions that I might approach the server owner with? And I do apologize for being vague. I am not sure how much detail to put in my initial post.
This was happening for all a little while ago, see here this thread
If I remember correctly I think it was a steam issue in the end, although there is no 100% confirmation of this
The 2023 thread had no resolution. It apparently got fixed, but no one posted how or why.
This is a great thread from 30 days ago. But the problem is still relevant, I haven’t been able to access my server to configure it for two days because of this error. Everything was fine before!
The issue seemed to go away after @AndyB posted acknowledgement with regards to this, that it was a steam issue, initially we tried several things with regards to battleye but it did not clear the issue for dedicated servers or for others in the end.
The game itself with regards to networking side is closely tied in with steam, funcom’s own network side, and ue4’s networking side and lastly battleye, it can be quite tricky to see which is responsible for which and very difficult to untangle what is responsible for which part of the connection, authentication, filling server browser with the list of servers and even though we can see certain connections ultimately there is nothing we can really do about it other than to try to get any of the funcom staff to deal with the issue, which of late is very rare.
So the problem is that different people from different countries with different servers crash with this error.
Also have same error. Long (3-5 mins) connecting to Funcom services, after that i can login into my private server trough local ip. 30 seconds ingame after - Authentication Failure and DC’ed to main menu.
There are things to do to troubleshoot to try to narrow down the issue but as you say different countries, different servers means that the issue is common to all, when you break down the commonality of all it is the game, and steam.
Due to it’s nature it is a networking issue which the game seems to have had an awful lot of issues with especially for me since funcom included their launcher that meant I was unable to play in offline mode and when the age of heroes update came out.
But over the past month or so it has been getting worse and unless a rep from funcom is answering posts or responding to bugs in game then we can only try to narrow down the issues, which is all dependent on the community of players.
As per this issue that you are experiencing is it just with private servers? Is this happening in single player? Is it the same for connecting to official servers or other non official servers?
The logs for us are the first place to go as this can tell us some information with regards to what stage the game is loading and where it has crashed, another place with regards to servers would be here Admins United: Conan - Discord for Server Admins!
I’ve found that when connecting to the server, my identifier changes its ID, returning different names (ReHost, ShaggyFighter) - (ShaggyFighter my old name) as if it’s getting them from different databases. After 20-30 seconds on the server, I get a server crash with an error, and the server logs a user disconnection.

It’s interesting that the userId is the same, but the fact that the users are different is definitely a database issue. It’s possible there are 2 or 3 databases involved, and the problem is clearly on Funcom’s side.
You have said that this is your server is that correct?
This is a server on a remote machine. Everything was stable and working fine until September 10th. But now a player is messaging me saying they can’t join because they get disconnected with an error. On the same day, I was also getting disconnected. I’m a technically savvy Russian, so blocks and other issues aren’t a problem for me, as the blocks were already in place on the 8th, and I simply bypassed them on the 10th. This issue is not due to the server or those blocks.
The error is likely due to the release of the Dune DLC. It seems something was changed in the authorization server’s operation by Funcom, which caused the service to malfunction.
For testing, I installed a VPN on both the server and my local machine (client). I removed mods and other things to eliminate the possibility of conflicts. I also tried using VAC and BattleEye, as well as disabling them.
But after some research, I read that this problem affected not only me and my region.
I want to add that my account might have been duplicated because I launched Dune, which I had purchased. The name of my account used to be ShaggyFighter when I was playing Conan, but now it’s ReHost.
I suspect the Authorization service is clearly confusing something, and that might be the reason! For example, it can’t find ReHost in the Conan database!
But this is just a hypothesis for the problem; only Funcom can give a definite answer.
At the very least, I can confirm that the RU region is blocked from accessing Funcom servers, which could lead to errors. However, this happened before the ‘Authentication Failure’ error, and for another 24 hours I had access to the server and was perfectly busy with configuration without any disconnections.
As a possible solution, the problem could be caused by the routing through the RU region. A way to check this is to start a VPN service (for example, if you, like me, live in or near Russia), which will help analyze the problem.
I have seen a few russian players on does this mean that for you all you have to use a vpn or some other bypass solution to play conan?
That may well link in with this thread as they are having issues also

Adding azurewebsites.net to the dpi bypass list helped me get rid of the error with live services, but it blocks the ability to buy crom coins on steam
