Idk I mean… I dont feel compelled to by all Steam games… if you want all the things, its gonna take some effort or cash. “Limited Time Offer!” is a thing… is it predatory? No its a value proposition. If you value it, you will earn it or pay for it. Its a “condition of sale”. There are all kinds of collectibles in the world I missed out on. Does that make limited editions predatory? No. Its just promotion.
If it ends up this way wife and I will likely uninstall and find another game to occupy our time. The people that play Conan Exiles instead of Rust… do it because Conan Exiles is beautiful. If Funcom gets the hair brain idea to start artificially cutting people off from a beautiful placeable… That’s gonna be a wrench in a lot of players engines.
Even Dennis Douthett said he would like to bring the content back later… but mentioned their “expert” advised against it and so the Battle Pass rewards would go extinct after the “Age”…
Dennis knows better which is why he said what he did. But he is gonna shoot himself in the foot on account of Tencent wanting to scalp the player base. Sucks.
I’ll just stock up on provisions IRL instead of dumping money into a FOMO BP.
We will all be playing CE IRL soon enough.
Nobody said that Funcom doesn’t need to make money. But the announced battle pass system is just predatory nonsense…
I’ll happily pay. My problem lies with:
-
Battlepass System, you need to grind to unlock AFTER paying for it. Oh … better hurry up before time runs out and you lose it all
-
In-game cosmetics shop… I really don’t mind this HOWEVER… The stream/video shows, let’s call them “Conan coins” to buy items. And you got to buy the conan coins… Want that 800 coin new armor set? Well we have conan coins in packs of 500, 1000 and 1500 at a special discount… No you cannot buy 800 coins just like that
-
Timed items in the shop. Got to get that FOMO hype going… buy it now before it’s gone for no good reason.
Seriously, I do NOT mind paying for content. I’ve bought all DLC’s so far. But this is just predatory money grabbing in all wrong ways for the reasons above. Artificial psychological “get it now before it’s gone” deals, in-game currency to buy items, recurring subscription fees, got to do your “daily’s” or you’ll lose out on this thing, so artificial engagement through psychological manipulation.
For me this might be the nail in conan exiles coffin. I’m extremely excited about the new content, but this money grab system really rubs me in a very negative way and puts a big black stain on the whole thing.
This shop looks 1:1 like Fortnite’s shop does. And that game is FREE… This kind of nickle and diming and psychological manipulation in a paid game is not ok.
They sold out to a Chinese company. Tencent will now fleece us like the sheep we are. Oh well.
The green orb looking thing were “soul remnants” that once consumed add corruption to your attributes. These green soul orbs (soul remnants) are also obtained by knocking out a human npc, dragging them to the new sacrificial altar, and collecting their soul essanse. Andy pointed to it during the stream and poor Nicole had to break her back to get out of the way.
Not sure how it is fleecing since nothing in the store is necessary. You can play the game without buying anything, nor anything in the store will break the game either.
Buy it, don’t buy it. That is up to the customer. Same like the DLCs, buy it or don’t.
Just like the ESO store, there is nothing I need but things I like to have. Obviously did not buy everything but bought things I liked periodically.
They are adding things to the game for free along with this system.
No comment on the pricing since we do not know yet (nor do they know officially yet either since they are still working it out).
I personally have no issue with the concepts they presented at this time.
I don’t have anything against battle passes. I actually kinda look forward to them in something like CE because while I enjoy sandbox games - I feel they’re better when they have some kind of goals or framework to work with if you want to. The one they have set up now for the most part looks alright to me.
Apart from getting rid of the rewards completely after it ends. It’s a bad idea that will just end up making people feel obligated to do this stuff - it doesn’t matter if they were already going to be doing it to begin with, the feeling will still be lurking there in the back of their mind. It’ll be a little drip-drip-drip of building resentment among parts of the userbase.
You missed the actual point in the latter half of the post there. Weapon illusions, namely unique ones.
Until the system is live or tested, hard to say how the reward system will play out. ESO has the daily and weekly endeavors for coins to buy crown crate specific items, which I tend to do daily but not always. They take roughly 15 minutes to complete all the dailies. Weeklies vary how long they take. Sometimes a few minutes and sometimes roughly an hour. And you can technically do some of these while doing your regular game play, although since I really do not play much in ESO anymore, I tend to work on them actively when I do log in.
From what they shown on the stream, killing x10 of such and such or craft x10 of something does not sound very time consuming. Plus you can re-roll if you do not like the selection rolled isn’t too bad. Until we play it or test it, no idea how grindy or how easy it is to complete.
where on the battle pass were weapon illusions listed or spoken of as single-use items?
Battle Pass is designed to bring in money, and pressure players to “play” in order to keep the population active and the servers full and fun. It does both of these things well.
Adding the FOMO(Fear of Missing Out) feature to it though is just excessive, greedy and bad for business.
A Battle Pass is going to make money for the company either way.
FOMO is just charging your player base for bad publicity.
Eventually, you will end up with a lot of pissed off customers that constantly rant about your predatory practices. Your mods will spend years squashing useless posts/threads on it. Rather than love on the forums, you will get posts like this one.
This is only the first day after you announced it.
Imagine when you actually ruin peoples gaming experience by charging them a couple dollars, and then forever remove from them an item they didn’t manage to acquire. You know, they got to reward lvl 50, but not 60 and now have 10 reasons to hate you forever.
I’d like it more if you could keep a battle-pass forever after buying it. That way I could progress at my own pace, with any breaks I’d like to take, even if completing it would take me more than 90 days. And if I could buy old battle-passes at any time.
As for the one-time use green orbs - no idea why they put stuff like that in a battle-pass, especially if it’s obtainable in-game anyway.
No one really has a problem with them selling items with a in game shop, the problem starts with them using the F2P mobile monetization tactics for revenue. Just sell things at a fair price without the timed FOMO crap and people will be happy to buy stuff and support a game they love playing.
Thanks for saying what FOMO stands for.
Perhaps the Battle Pass items should rotate back again in the future as an option, would be a suggestion. I know they mentioned the store will rotate the items. If they did rotate it, then you have a choice of item A (old item) or Item B (new item).
That is my feedback on FOMO issue.
They spoke about it when they were going over some of the minutiae of how things will work. Someone asked if things were account-bound or character-bound.
You’d have to wait for Multigun’s write-up or rewatch the VOD to find it.
I agree that Multigun’s recap will clarify a lot of things.
It usually does. ALL HAIL GLORIOUS MODDER MULTIGUN.
Your comparing a sale of items, that can return. To a sale of item(s) that will never return.
The idea is to get you buy something.
1 of them is a trick. But not really a negative one. You miss it… you miss it. It’ll return or you can pay full price.
Battle Pass is selling you idea of limited time items, that if you miss out. You’ll never see them. With no option to get later. And your buying bundle of items(which you may or not want)… that “YOU” must do stuff to get.
Any failure to get items, is now on YOU.
hence one extra step to get you spend money. More then you attended to spend/
To Those Defending The Battle Pass and Predatory Sales!
CONGRATULATIONS! You are the Majority!
/Pat yourself on the Back!
Your are Exactly the type of people this stuff is made for! And why they hope you’ll never understand whats going on. =3
Wait What?!
Also… I hope the conversation is what Steers Battle Pass more towards the Lure to get players to play… and SEE the Store to spend money. And not means to get money.
I’m 100% for Black Lotus Store. Something I’ve been wanting them to add. So I can give them money for things I want. And not feel ripped off.
Okay, today’s stream disappointed me. I guess it’s time to look for another game. This isn’t a survival game anymore…
