So I am making obsidian weapons and was wondering what I should use on myself and also a thrall I was thinking for myself a spear greatsword or mace would be good and I don’t know for a thrall because I mainly using pets rn and have no thralls nor do I want some for a while maybe. (pve as in just taking rhinos elephants and tigers in savanah and maybe some miscelaneous stuff like rocknoses and wolves/bears/boars is spear/greatsword the best for versitility or should I go mace for the elephants which I think will be my most encountered in pve as well as rocknoses. ty 4 comment
I think a hammer instead of mace would be better gonna test in single player
Yes, definitely test all the weapons. Lots of people have different opinions on weapons, the most important thing, is that you just have fun.
In 3.0 it depends on your character build. There is no longer “a best weapon” like there was in 2.8 and prior.
for pve, 2hand swords,katanas,2 hand maces, and 1hand axe imo.
they have a really decent aoe/stun.
I didn’t try katanas in my study but I heard from someone they are great in pve plus I am going for more of a yamatai style play so I might do it and also I heard a bow/katana build will be great in 3.0 which is exactly what I thought it might be before I saw your comment although I just thought it would be daggers because I forgot about the katana.
It seems that in single player the hammer was the best for pve for nearly all categories of light enemies like scorpions and boars to rhinos and elephants I would suggest going with the hammer and also a pvp/weak enemy weapon so a hammer/dagger(reaper poison could even work better than the hammer for all enemies if you have enough of it in abundance) or great sword or spear(spear was not the best really although would be good against some of the tougher enemies like the wrights or somethings in the unnamed city) a bow build could also work as a secondary weapon to the hammer/dagger I think in 3.0 from what I’ve heard a dagger/bow combo might be the best for farming/pve stuff along with a thrall that has sunder maybe to basically add more ap to your arrows.
Hammer strong in pve no wonder because it does so much damage and has such high pen both with base and passive but it has a very predictable attack
In conclusion:
Now - hammer/dagger or sword
in 3.0 - bow & dagger & maybe hammer… with a thrall/pet that has sunder a sword or bleed could be good
i found katanas to be great on npc camps
just a combo and make massive aoe damage plus evade their attacks, more or less.
and you can stun lock npc with the light attacks.
thanks for reminding me
Just tested it and it still seems that it doesn’t outperform the hammer in a lot of heavier enemies eg rocknose rhino and elephant but it does serve as a great secondary weapon to the hammer because it has all the functions of the dagger sword and even kind of the spear as well with the safety.
Thralls will be more efficient if they cant be staggered by incoming damage and could utilize some crowd control, so 2H sword or maces are solid options. Spears and 1H swords are generally terrible unless you are fighting something with a huge hitbox and even then 2H weapons will be more useful. Daggers can dish out some good damage, but random backflips just make it non reliable. 1H axes are ok - I will usually try to pair them with throwing axes for a whirlwind combo, but thrall will occasionally perform throwing attack (and “Prioritize melee” doesn’t solve this issue). Short swords are decent. Haven’t really used katanas. Great axes where terrible for thralls - they prioritized weak light attacks and weapon range was so laughable this weapon wasn’t worth it material cost. I’ve heard weapon range has been improved since then, but weapon is still far behind any 2H weapons (except spears) because of its animation.
well its a good alternative if you have an agility based build.
For Myself:
For two handed weapon dps: Ripping Great axe , spin to win + sunder + big raw damage numbers.
For tanky one handed with shield combo: annoying shard.
For blunted damaged to knockout thralls: predator blade with blunted fitting. I like the range on it’s lunge and overall it’s attack animations better then truncheons or love tap. Also option to kill random adds with light attacks without switching weapons is handy.
Personal preferences your performance may wary
So far the most efficient weapons on thralls was 2h swords and maces. 2h swords are a bit better because the thralls complete their combo, it is “helped” on multiple minion attacks, greater and more round range, faster combos than all the other 2h weapons, always great dmg and armor pen.
The great advantage on mace is the sunder, that it applies to everything and makes the battle faster !
But…
It misses a lot, it doesn’t always complete combo so not in every round it applies sunder and it is extremely difficult for a thrall to stuck 5 sunder on a mob, very rare actually! Plus in multi minion attacks, your thrall may have serious issues!
Hammer… Very slow, very slow and it miss again a lot .
So the best combination is your thrall to have 2h sword and you war axe and mace! This way you will apply the bleeding and sunder (depending the boss) and your thrall will do what it can! In several occasions poison daggers are helping more than the war axe!
All these were until Today!!!
Let’s see what the new update will bring.
personally i like the two handed sword for thralls, because it actually hits most hitboxes of enemies (unlike the spear for example) and the wide arcs make them decent enough against small groups as well.
other than that i like weapons that reliably give status effects, ironically like the zath religious spear, because they don’t have to complete a set of attacks to actually deal some damage. it really depends on how involved i intend to get into the fight, really.
for 1vs1 fights used the sword of the ios map which has 95 of damage with a shield. To increase the penetration damage. and to attack a group of enemies use the lemur axe. she has an advantage that doubles the penetration
Agreed, this is my choice also. I have a mace with very high Penetration I use in combo with the black shield, and my follower uses an epic two hander.
You can basically AOE stagger all day with a mace and shield, while your follower cuts them to pieces.
If you’re fighting a bear, the best weapon is your fist.
Who doesn’t want to have a fist fight with a bear?
