Broken story questline after Black Sun, Red Sand finished - are GMs still assigned to this game?

hi there!

i came back to SWL in a bit of nostalgia and have been having a lovely time right until the end of Egypt. finished up Black Sun, Red Sand, and… nothing. taking my templar self over to Richard Sonnac’s office produces no effects, finishing up my other quests also is no dice, no joy in relogging, et cetera. no story quest, no way to resume the story quest. given i’m level 47, i’m overeleveled past the quests i can still access (and honestly i got patron status for a reason so i could skip the questlines that aren’t my favourite!).

obviously, no story quest means a pretty big block to playing the game.

i’ve sent in a petition in-game and it’s been about a day and a half sitting there - even updated my petition with findings of me trying to jostle the game into working, so i do know it’s submitted properly.

i asked in general chat how long it usually takes GMs to fix quest bug issues and… someone told me they’re still waiting on a similar quest blocking issue for going on two months.

so part two of my question is… are GMs still around? are they still employed? do they, uh, exist? i realize the game is in a state that may be generally described as “we are all buzzy children locked in Gaia’s hot car”, but i’m going to hope that paying for patron status is making somebody’s paycheck go somewhere. it’s a real bummer of a wait because the solution open to me is Oops No More Game To Play Come Back Later. and i would, y’know, like to play the game lol. i don’t mind waiting patiently, i just want to know if i’ll be waiting with an end point, or if i’m in a Waiting For Godot situation where Godot will never come. (and honestly if there’s no GMs, having the petition function - much less taking my money for aurum and whatnot - seems to be kind of a nasty little trick, but i digress.)

i’d rather not have to start another alt since, well, this already is the alt that i started to enjoy the game again - so i’ve just recently been through Kingsmouth and all. if that’s the only solution that’s on the table, that’s… i believe the technical term is “a real bummer”, and i’ll probably just sigh, deinstall SWL again, and tell myself that the happiness lives in memories because i’ll just get burned if i try to actually play the game again. i would rather not do that! i would much rather, y’know, play the game. it’s just that right now, i… can’t. and if the GMs will never arrive to fix a problem that requires their intervention, then there’s no use waiting for them. a pretty sad kick in the teeth for the anniversary event and all, lol.

right, i’m done being a sadsack, so tldr -

1. no story quest after finishing Black Sun, Red Sand. can’t progress. help?
2. waiting on GM intervention for 1. do GMs still exist, or should i just abandon hope?

Anarchy online guys reported a server crashing exploit and got told that all the support staff is currently on Dune.

That said, there are gms around as spawning Beeheemoths in agartha has to be done manually for the event, as well as enabling the actual event.

As for the wait time, well I wouldn’t expect the answer sooner than in a month, or whenever anyone actually gets to it. It’s not like they’re waiting for a set time after your petition, it can get resolved really fast if you submitted it right before they check. I think I had one up going for 2nd month now.

Can you post a screenshot of your journal? Maybe someone here can come up with a way to fix it

My new toon had this happen and there was a weird thing where you’re supposed to get a phone call and then I got a rank phone call at the same time. Here’s the reddit post I used to figure it out:

"Wrong phone. The phone call you clicked on is for your faction rank

Check your inventory (or hot bar shortcut) for the actual Story mission phone

I accidentally file this bug report because I was used to clicking the icon for phone. Later on I saw a phone in my inventory. It’s not a bug just design is inconsistent.

i’m glad that they’re at least extant enough to spawn the Beeheemoths, i’ve enjoyed smacking a few! the month minimum wait is… well, i guess it’s a good incentive for me to go play another game and enjoy that virtual ticket to Tennocon lol? smh the black signal really looked at me and said ‘no fun allowed’ i guess

here’s my current journal - bereft, barren, absolutely nuffin’ except for one sidequest. the turn-in message mentioned Richard Sonnac wanted to see me in London, but i’ve gone around to his office multiple times and still had no joy. the extra assignment is also buggy - but it’s stuck around after the end of The Angry Earth questline chain, even after completing The Agartha Egress etc., so… i think something’s gotten snarled up on the back end.

i am running two mods but they’re strictly UI-based - one to tweak the size of various UI elements, one a pet manager to auto-summon my pet. i can’t think of how either of those would be blocking my ability to continue receiving story quests.

i also don’t have anything in my inventory that is a phone that could be clicked on to receive a call - just a headlamp, as per usual lol, so no dice there but thank you very much for helping to try and troubleshoot, IneffableChaos!

edit: the sticky area mission at least was easy to fix - just had to enter and exit another area mission zone and now it’s gone, thank goodness. with that one last sidequest fixed, my journal is now completely empty lol

MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, I FOUND A FIX! following the well-respected rule of “if you just complain hard enough about an issue you’ll eventually get a solution”, whining over hither and yon, and also following advice about this person’s similar problem - Unable to progress the game - #15 by Keisersoze59

the solution was to… go try to re-enter the Black Pyramid to get a cutscene of the Dreamers properly going “ptooey gross bee in here get out” after i rejected their gift for a second time. and now Richard Sonnac has finally, finally decided it’s time to speak to me.

i can now stop trying to coordinate with John to go punitively yell HIYA CHUCK, WHAT ARE Y’ALL DOING OVER THERE IN OSLO, THERE’S A GM QUEUE YOU KNOW at funcom hq. that’s a good thing, because he was starting to sound very sensible as he told me that this level of frustration could be solved by actually eating my hands (and also letting the liquid black 3am seep into my soul so my head explodes into lampreys etc etc y’all know how it be, that Filth is kind of a drama queen bless him).

time to celebrate by getting to one of my very favourite quests in the game (VIRGULA DIVINA MY CREEPY CREEPY BELOVED)
