Building Temperatures

I have spent a few minutes looking around and have not found what the current state that building materials have on a players temperature.

Does anyone know how Aquilonian building pieces work up north for example?

Aquilonian, Frontier, Reinforced Stone, Turanian, and Yamatai help to keep you cool, so they’re good in the Desert, Jungle, and Volcano.

Black Ice, Insulated Wood, and Khitan help to keep you warm, so they’re good in the Frozen North.

Thanks. Did you see this in the dev kit some where? Did you run some tests? Right now I built Aquilonian up north and not seeing as much as I would have thought. I was trying to make it hard to raid my base without a very specific spec.

I feel like I saw it in the wiki before, but typically the thermal values of the various sets are disclosed (by people digging in the dev kit) whenever new content is released. Also, I’ve built all over and this seems to bear out.

For instance, I had one base by Sepermeru where I had sections of both Aquilonian and others of Black Ice. While totally naked, I observed my temperature became hot while standing on the Black Ice floor, whereas when I moved to the Aquilonian, my temperature normalized.

Similarly, in the volcano I can maintain normal temperature in my Reinforced Stone base while I overheat almost immediately when I visit other players’ Black Ice structures.

Indeed, buildings have a small temperature effect. and this is a big mistake of the developers, as they are obliged to provide full information about the product to their customers. However, this remains hidden, which violates the rights of the consumer.

It tells you in the description of completed pieces. Unlike armor that tells you in feats, you actually need to make a foundation or wall to see what insulated effect building sets has though.

Took me a couple minutes to realize this must be a PvP vs PvE difference. I was literally sitting here thinking, “Why would you want to kill yourself or others before they could even get in your— OOOH!”

It seems to me that I’ve seen this in the information of a building piece in my inventory not long ago… And yes, I make tests in Admin mode for all my new DLCs: Bridge of Betrayer and some spot in Volcano. Just one foundations, four walls and ceiling are enough to see.

Click on the building piece in your inventory or in a chest and it’ll say “Heat Insulated” or “Cold Insulated.”

When testing, I like to create a door so that I can observe the partial effects as well.

I can confirm that making a home made out of T2 insulated wood home in the desert biome is safe. I’ve built one before and I never lost health (and find myself dead upon logging in) before. I did NOT build in the savannah or pure sand areas though, so I can’t guarantee that you’ll be safe there with insulated wood home.

One thing to keep in mind is that windows eliminate the cold/heat protection for a building. So, you can build with any material anywhere, as long as you provide enough ventilation to counteract the material’s cold/heat protection. On my old server, one of the master builders had a gorgeous Khitan city/base in the jungle, and there were no issues running through it, because it was open everywhere.

Which begs the question that Turanian armor is cold resist and the building pieces are heat resist.

Seems rather odd.

But. Since Turanian is a pretty nice looking set, I’ll be sticking to warm areas.
