Ah, I see. Thanks for the added context. I don’t really get most sports, so such references reach the stratosphere above my head.
For example, to me that sounds akin to, “You can always form a polynomial ring out of a base ring, and then create a quotient ring from an ideal in the polynomial ring. This can be rather useful when attempting to solve for algebraic varieties, by finding a Grobner basis, which is an ideal of the polynomial ring formed by either the field of real numbers or complex numbers (depending on application). Hence, there is a use for ring theory in solving varieties. Topology has some interesting applications as well, as one can define a topology by using the complements of varieties.”-someone in the internet probably.
All in all, it sounds very complicated. I am glad there are people who get it. (Sincere)
Daily struggle for me. I’m still searching for this power that I sacrificed half my health and stamina for. Demonic Control or Mastery of the Undead? Living outfitted minions are still superior. Control of the elements? Rock wall is useless (if it is to be fully effective, it should encase me in a dome that allows me sanctuary to bandaid and potion and then crumble). Lightning Storm is outdoors only. The Dead Horde distracts my minion and hit like noodles. Darkness? lol. I use the Wisp, Ice Bridge, Bat, and Mass HARVEST (not cull because I really don’t cull anything). I can’t hypnotize NPC’s, I can’t summon insects, I can’t actively augment my minions, I can’t even wear normal armor because my Spellbags weigh too much. When I cast an illusion, the enemies I need it the most against ignore it. Assuming the title of Demon Lord gives up so much power that it is literally stupid to take over Uber Followers or Gang Warfare.
But back to the subject of this thread.
Yes, so many excellent points brought up by previous responders.
You want me to do dungeons more? Make the gameplay compelling. Tank and Spank over and over is boring. Put some more narrative elements in there such as lorestones. Enact loot tables so we know what to expect from bosses we encounter. Heck, put in cages in the final rooms that when opened give you a guaranteed T4 crafting thrall (Sorry Conan, but the Princess is in another castle! lol).
This one did not mean it as a slight.
It was a follow-up to your observation that
This one’s point was that the monetization system as it is requires continuing support thru demonstration of what exactly it is funding. What was true then remains true now as we continue to see those pitchforks and torches you mentioned. If the general feels had become, meh, that’s the way it is, nothing to discuss here and the farming implements were back in the field, it would be far less of a Crux point.
Respected of that’s a line of discussion you don’t care to follow up on, this one just wished to clarify.
Yeah no slight taken. Understood.
exactly.
Well since everyone is providing feedback to Dennis’ letter, I will leave my two cents as well. I am reluctant to discuss the stamina changes at this point, as I have not played the testlive. However, there are 2 points of concern for me here, unrelated to stamina which I will make points on.
Thankyou very much @CodeMage for a well constructed post which is which very much mirrors my own sentiment.
If the way the devs want to incentivise us to re-run content is by relegating our hard earned rewards to timed buffs, then I am sorry, but I am verhemently opposed to this change. As I have recently said in another thread, many of the individual in-game legendary weapons have taken myself and other members months, or in some cases even years to obtain!
This change trivialises and invalidates the hard work players invested trying to procure these highly sought after items. So let me see if I understand this correctly. The prevailing logic to make players want to replay content here is to make players grind for 6 months to 2+ years for an items which will break a mere 2-3 weeks later!? Here is a radical idea: how about we instead direct attention to addressing the absurdly high levels of RNG which multitudes of players have been pleading for you to do for years now!
The second gripe I have is one not addressed in the letter, or the rebalances for the Age of War. What about our PETS? Pets already underperform in every conceivable way in comparison to thralls, to the extent that few among us would dare to take them into battle against higher tier enemies, or have them defending against purges. And now that enemies are dealing even more damage, pets are going to feel weaker than ever. So at this point they are little more than glorified ornaments or roleplay items, as opposed to strategic of viable content. If this is an Age of War, then could we maybe make them actually viable to use again in a war…? Juxtaposed to a home decoration. Otherwise when the new purge mechanics land, they are just going to have to be locked in our bases…again.
Yeah me too good buddy. End rant there.
I gave up making mods myself went as I went into full game development got zero time for it or I would never get to game.
Problem with making mods for conan is they constantly break and need repackaging, its userbase is small(compared to other popular modding game communities) , and the devs take the best mod ideas and implement into live with no credit given.
Honestly I wish Funcom would attempt to recruit directly from the modders onto their staff, I met a few from when I was modding that were clearly far more knowledgeable with their spaghetti stringed blueprints then they are, I know many could make the game way way better.
Modding can be fun but this game is far from mod friendly, I am amazed the amount people are still doing it these days.
Yep.
While I don’t share your level of energy, I will agree that this is a piss poor solution to the playerbase not wanting to re-run rather generic dungeons with very little encounter dynamics.
Yo FC, another DRSM suggestion inbound!
Howzabout this: tune the event system to function within dungeons, drastically changing the encounters in any given dungeon. For instance, the Dregs can spawn in different enemies from 1 of 3 random events:
Event 1: Vanilla dungeon as is.
Event 2: Dregs have been taken over by Setite Cultists and you must defeat their leader at the end. Features 2 new boss encounters with sorcerous fight mechanics. Increased chances to get high-level golem parts and bulk high-level sorcery materials.
Event 3: Relic Hunter Treasure Seekers have set up shop within the Dregs. Get in there, kill them, and plunder their riches!
Features 2 new boss encounters with a greater chance to drop legendary items from each boss.
Lather, rinse, repeat for all other dungeons. Gives us some variety at the very least.
All console players. ![]()
Sony makes it nearly impossible. That’s the worst thing about PlayStation. I don’tblame FUNCOM. With Xbox I don’t know. It’s more mod friendly.
Dennis mentioned it was no time soon, but they would like to see mods on consoles eventually. My guess is, besides the bureaucratic issues of a deal with Sony and Xbone, mod authors would have to be keenly aware of console system resources and it would have to go thru a porting process, so we couldn’t just go “Oh, let me fix that and push live”… there’s also the cert process. I have pledged that if consoles get mods, I will make maps that consoles can handle out of respect for all the time I spent on ps4 playing conan.
That’s true, but the modder’s community is:
-generous
-smart
-extremely resourceful
-very dedicated
If you look at the amount of console mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 even for PS5, you’ll see a testimony to all I said above.
It’s not really a Sony thing
I have long suspected that the commonly used excuse floating around how the major blockade there is the console certifications, is not really the case and if Funcom wanted mods on console… we could have mods on console.
The real reason Funcom doesn’t want mods on console is because their basegame barely runs on it as it is… and they didn’t want to open that can of worms where twice as many people suddenly start complaining to Funcom that their game is running at 5 fps when in reality it’s their fault for installing resource-heavy mods. Like @darthphysicist pointed out above, Dennis pretty much confirmed that theory on the last Dev stream
They don’t wanna share that RAM!!! haha
That’s why I suggested a couple of times that they should have some curation process… where mod authors can submit their mods and Funcom only allows those that don’t impact the game too badly. Then at the very least we could get some of the more lightweight ones on there… still better than nothing. In any case, I don’t have my hopes up that they’ll do anything about it anytime soon…
WARNING DAD JOKE INBOUND
I agree, though I’d say it like this:
Smart
Active
Very Dedicated
Admirable
Generous
Extremely Resourceful

Right, but when we use mods, it’s at our own risk. If things run smoothly without them, the devs wash their hands. It’s a caveat emptor thing, so I suspect there might be more to it. Sony is really restrictive. Mods can only contain in game assets. I once read it had something to do with the possibility of malicious code being introduced giving more access to stuff they don’t want us to have and things like that. Take it with a grain of salt. I just glanced over the whole thing. It’s not my expertise, so I can’t tell. But they are a bit paranoid.
Now, I ran over 60 mods in fallout 4 and had no performance problems. What FUNCOM needs is optimizing the damn game for PS5 properly.
The delay in texture rendering is very, VERY annoying. It drives me crazy seeing textures slowly appearing when I turn around.
I wouldn’t call the restrictive as much as telling developers ‘you want mods? Ok you control the quality of said mod because we aren’t in the business to manage 3rd party stuff for your game and we will hold you responsible if it goes bad’. That not restrictive. That’s protecting their consumer.
Neither party wants the responsibility of a mod crashing the player’s system and so no mods for CE.
A lot of people sadly fail to comprehend this and they’ll still end up bashing Funcom for it and making complaints / bug reports
Just look at the bug reports section of PC or Steam forums…
That is already a restriction we have in place so no issues there. Mods cannot load anything external to their designated folder
In that regard Conan Exiles is actually quite compliant, because we’re literally using the Unreal Editor that was used to make the game… so mods in Conan are fully integrated as an actual part of the game… in fact the developers themselves use the same method to load some of their extra content.
So don’t look at Conan modding like “jerry-rigging” some external stuff to hook into the game like you sometimes have with certain games, but rather look at it as completely native content packages, like a DLC for example ![]()
But yes, they need to still go through the appropriate process set by the platform owner to get to consoles
I think you give Sony too much credit. I can bet there’s more to it, but as I don’t know shit about modding I can’t say for sure. ![]()
