Chapter 3 New Combat is terrible

Best way to fix combat , bring the exausted state back since it will stop roll spam , make time to kill longer since most meta weapons kill in 3 or 4 hits , give weapons a 4 trait system reach, recovery , damage, penetration . Then make it so each weapon can only have 2 out of the 4 traits . Then for armor keep the roll the same across the bored but stamina regen being slower the heavier the armor and also stamina consumption being higher .

I don’t know which developer is responsible for this change, but I can’t imagine that they tested it and said, ‘Yes, this is really fun.’ Why would you change a combat system that works well and is enjoyable to something like this?

Well said… people that can’t play their own games and engineer “cheats” for the mobs rather than doing the work to program true challenges :roll_eyes: should go get a greeter’s job for a box store.

I’m not happy… gaming is my distraction from stress and work… sometimes "things need killin’. If this is how Funcom chooses to “advance” the playability of their games, I’ll be looking for a different game to play and won’t be shopping at “Funcom”… Hey Funcom, a bit of insight to your business model… “That brand of disappointment and disloyalty to your fan-base NEVER fades.”

Get on a fix quick or you’ll lose players and future buyers that will never come back.

It is sooo baaad. I Played over 7.000 hours in this game. And this is by far the most sad update of the gamer by far. It feels like you guys took a time machine to travel back in improving the game

I mean there were a thousand easier ways to spike PvE difficulty but they all required someone with a competent understanding of what would genuinely make for a better fight.

AI could’ve been given the ability to dodge-roll. They could’ve been given pathing that lets them out-maneuver players. They could’ve been given a check for weapon movesets that prevented them from mindlessly running into an active axe-spin. AI could’ve been made to climb structures during the purge to bypass defenses. Better path meshing could’ve been added to build pieces to let AI navigate bases more easily. Larger enemy types could’ve been added to purges with immunity to knock-back

Instead the game is being balanced around the skill ceiling of a single dev that can’t even beat his own PvE dungeon without the use of god mode. It’s enormously frustrating when one person is routinely making terrible decisions for a system that was perfectly fine for half a decade, and adamantly ignoring any sort of player feedback.

I’ll say it for a hundredth time - the game was fine in 2.0 it just needed bugfixes and more content.

Couldn’t they just add magic, Stygians, more dungeons, more shit, but leave the core game alone?
Their changes do not refesh the game, do not bring new players, but old folks leave.

This time enough is enough, the game was less fun recently, but now I quit after almost 4 years. I’m tired of installing mods that reverse FCs updates…

I hate the new system. There is in some cases no dodging anymore.

Giant Croc changes attackdirection mid jumpattack! Like a homing missile. Absolutly no chance of dodging!

Yes exactly. I cannot change the direction of my attack on the spot, but only after moving in the chosen direction. Damn inconvenient. It is now more effective to use weapons with the widest range of damage, such as a two-handed sword. Short swords and spears are inconvenient.

I have to wholeheartedly agree. Combat was really fun during the Age of Sorcery line of patches, actually for the first time in Conan Exiles, at least for me. The balance between thralls and the player character was good, weapons felt fine, it was engaging and you had to watch what you were doing without the game being punishingly difficult.

The stamina changes were just plain weird. I put stamina cost to 0.5 in my game now, as combat just isn’t fun for me with the new system. However, now everything is too easy and weirdly balanced. Gnah.

Effectively endless dodge roll… why? Just why?

The removal of hyper armor made combat not difficult, but primarily frustrating. Got two Exiles with stone spears on you? Well, good luck, the next two minutes you’ll have to spend dodge-rolling until one gets stuck in the environment and you can actually start counter-attacking.

Thrall AI is very much not suited to fight without hyper armor. They just charge into the enemy stone spears and get shredded to pieces. Hyper armor was a dirty fix, but a working fix for the AIs limitations. Removing it tore open a wound in the game’s combat AI and balancing that is hard to heal. Just putting the band-aid back on would be the easiest fix.

Please, Funcom, consider reverting the changes. Doing an experiment every once in a while is cool and all, but it just didn’t turn out well.

It’s true it was at least way better than it is today. They pretty much f up with introducing a new perk system, and adding/removing shit that didnt need to be added or removed.

What’s really stupid is that in AoW Chapter 2, Dennis was SO excited about being able to hold W to change direction when attacking as a fine-tune movement system, IN ADDITION TO NORMAL COMBAT. It was a whole talking point about this new subtle feature.

And then they decided “nah, let’s just make the whole combat system work like that always” while simultaneously making enemies spin circles around you and basically never miss.

Combat has gotten so bad throughout this entire age. It is NOT fun. It’s not rewarding. AI is stupid. Enemy reach is unrealistic (as is their lack of attack commitment). And it just keeps getting worse.

As the developers suggested;
If you don’t like the combat change, Toggle the ‘Rotatable Stationary Camera’ in the Gameplay Settings as well as the ‘Controller Style Movement’ option.

E.g. Controller Style Moment on Auto and Rotatable Stationary Camera un-ticked, and your character will turn to attack wherever your ‘crosshair dot’ indicates.
