Besides spiders and scorpions, do the shaleback drop chitin? Either way, what are other sources for chitin?
I think the locusts also have chitin.

what are chitin’s used for? (also the king shell back’s drop them i got some yesterday from one and didnt know what they were used for)
Various armors use them such as the Stygian archer sets, as well as one of the shields. They can also be placed in the grinder to get bonemeal in case you have need for MASSIVE amounts of bonemeal.
