Could we please have permanent paints?

Tattoos if you’re feeling fancy.

It has been brought up a few times this week. Paints have no buffs attached to them (afaik), sloughing fluid could still be used.

I don’t know any of the technical jargon so feel free to tell me off. :sparkling_heart:

Coming soon to the BLB… :upside_down_face:

Yeah, it would be nice to see functional warpaints return. I’m still not really sure why they lost their buffs. We’re they particularly unbalanced in PVP? I don’t remember seeing complaints about them, but maybe that’s selective memory (or maybe they were removed to try to balance something else?)

I’m not sure either to be totally honest. I blame the first battle pass.

It’s been brought up for longer than that. I recall myself mentioning it a year or two ago.

They are waiting until they create a tattoo station.

First you would make the dyes at the dye station, then you take the dye to the tattoo artist station (which will be an awkward shaped 2x3x2 bench but there will be a version in the Bazaar that is smaller). There you consume dye and needles (a special recipe that will only be available from level 5+ purges) to tattoo your character only.

When this update rolls out, body paint will be removed from the game. Much like with most emotes, tattoos are only for your character, nor for your thralls.

This one is making a bitter jest.
But only barely.
Considering the changes coming to the UI, this one would be extremely surprised if anything would be added or updated that doesn’t require a bench.

It will be 4x the size of the dye station. Your character will have to climb inside, stay there for 20 minutes while the new tattoo thrall (BLB Exclusive) applies the “war paint”. While this occurs you will be unable to cancel the application nor log out, AND it will trigger a level 9 purge. If you survive, you have a nice shinny new permanent tattoo (no stats though).

Exactly! You can’t use this system with thrall. You must be joking if you thought that you would be able to.

Warpaints seemed to be hinged on the old attribute system. I can imagine they couldn’t figure out how to incorporate it with the change.

Wasn’t really unbalanced for PVP as you could only use 1 at a time but stacked with all the buffs from potions, foods and armor.

Because they made the decision that only 2 buffs can be active. One for potion and one for food. However I don’t understand why the warpaint couldn’t take the spot of a potion buff but it was a purposeful design choice on their end.

I get that, I just don’t get why the decision was taken. Three points is a pretty minimal difference either way (given how much armour grants) - especially since buffs no longer grant perks. It just seems a bit of an odd thing to remove :man_shrugging:

well people will most likely buy tattos or paints from the BLB if they worked as permanent and not for an hour

I haven’t bought a single one. I might be more inclined to if they didn’t ALL cover parts of the face. Like, why are all of them doing that now? I feel like only a few of the old dlc actually had unique patterns and stuff that felt like actual tattoos. I don’t need to feel like a present day rapper.

To build on that, there are a few items that give a buff that over-writes the food buff.

So having an alternative consumable for overwriting potions would have still balanced out, depending upon what the buff was.

I did that for a bit but it gets to be a bit much.

@jmk1999 What I’m hearing is I can make Posty the next time I roll fresh. I jest, but usually if I don’t like a face portion but like the body paint I’ll cover it with the Pictish light helmet.

As a completely unreasonable and annoying way to maybe get permanent warpaint until such time as Funcom decides to implement this… I currently have three characters with permanent warpaint on official servers. Don’t even lose it on death. I’m not sure if the sloughing fluid would remove it as I haven’t tried. Nor have I tried to overwrite any of them with another paint.

As best I can tell this happened by camping out with the warpaint applied, with at least some skin were the paint is showing, staying camped out until the character disappears from the world and not logging back in until after a game patch. This is on PC, not console. No clue if it could be done on consoles.

There may be other factors. I haven’t done enough testing to say for sure but the above seems to be a baseline at least.

The first time this happened was by accident on a storage character who had been camped out a really long time. Was quite a surprise to discover that the warpaint had become permanent and led to much speculation and testing on how to repeat it. Needing a game patch, seemingly, is definitely a limiting factor in said testing.

I know this sounds like leg pulling. I’m happy to demonstrate that it’s permanent with a character on 1504 if anyone cares to see. The other two have sigils that I’d rather not have to replace.

Given there’s a patch coming up in a couple weeks I’ll attempt it again for the sake of science.

Obviously don’t let your base and thralls decay attempting this.

And that makes it important that crafters are able to walk around and add to your limit. We need to have more crafters than fighters.

But…Come on. You can’t say you don’t want to run around like this.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I just put on Valeria’s paint this morning.

That’s already an option… the movie dlc has it… and no, not when I’m treating them like tattoos.

The warpaint slot should be made visible, and warpaints should have their decay timers removed. Also if functional warpaints ever return, then they should be illusionable.
