The kiln should be able to make composite obsidian bars, this would help clans where the star metal field is controlled by alpha tribes.
Crafting obsidian ATM is ridiculous and needs a serious overhaul to place it more in line with star metal. But the real killer is time spent waiting at the volcanic forge, no player wants to spend 30 minutes plus just waiting around the forge. The way it is currently setup there is very little to no reason to collect obsidian.
I and my clan go to the volcano for thralls, gold and ash. We just drop obsidian as a trash item.

Maybe you should learn a new forget type that you had to build to then make Obsidian bars outside of the forge in the volcano.
The nice thing about Obsidian equipment, is that it does not have to be better then star metal. Just a type of equipment that is as good as star metal but that you can get in a different place or region of the map.
I would like the devs to finish the part of the map that is above the north jungle on the east side of the volcano and make this a place where you get the recourse for obsidian equipment.
Maybe keep obsidian in the volcano, but in less amounts and make real gold veins for gold and ash harvest in the volcano. Then make obsidian in the new area above the north jungle.

@kazorvey Use Acheronian. Its the same as Star Metal. Obsidian is 1 better (like Blackblood tools).
So Obsidian should still be only in the volcano. But the time is for sure annoying… It should just be instant finish or for 1 bar = 0.5sec or sth. The time to wait there is so stupid…
I’m afraid this wont happen because the map is already finished. The area above the upper jungle is where all the dungeons are. The devs wont open this area to the players. I’m not sure if you can get there in ghost mode in single player or if you still die of the curse wall. It’s worth a try. But there is no (intended) way to get there in official / without admin commands.
I think… finding and making obsidian in Volcano works as start point. But maybe add a Special Klin that is made with Obsidian forge at Volcano. This way you get use of area. And then can take a Klin home with you for later/easier use.
Even have recipe attached to find said Klin at Volcano, so you can’t just take found bars and decon weapons into one.
@Croms_Faithful i think this is well said. I would like a see a durability buff for the obsidians tools, maybe then, their crafting would be worth the time.
The volcanic forge is currently useless, I am a sample size of one, but i am very active and i do not know of any player that regularly uses obsidian tools or weapons as it takes way too much time to craft an item that has very small gain in harvesting ability.
Not to mention the heat resistant, aspect in order to craft armor that has two bars heat resistance one needs to be level 60.
A player can get star metal with one bar cold resistance armor easily, but not so with the volcano. The player can stock up on star metal ore long before they have the level to utilize the ore.
While the volcano is barely doable with one bar heat resistance and that is only if you have enough cooling drinks/ice to sustain the time required to get a quantity of the ore, and smelt it.
Especially since Funcom broke all of the non DLC armor with the Derketo DLC, non DLC armor crafted after the DLC was released, only gives one bar heat or cold resistance if crafted after the last (deketo) DLC. The result of broke non DLC armor is a crushing blow to players that have not purchased the DLCs.
It is way faster and easier to just get black blood tools and a player can farm bosses in the unnamed city for repair kits to keep them functional. This can easily be done at an early level so having black blood tool set by mid to late level 30’s is doable with team work and or the right skill set.
With a little work a player has star metal weapons by their mid 30’s. ( not so with obsidian) Knock out cimmerian fighter 1, 2 or 3, thrall them, and take their spawn star metal weapon ( and shield) place them on guard with a truncheon outside the mounds city, rinse and repeat. (very quickly there is hoard of truncheon equipped fighters knocking out anything that leaves the mounds city.) Soon the entire clan and followers are star metal equipped. Go to skittering cavern farm for the Nemedian helmet. Place helmet on thrall and swap weapons with thrall when yours gets to 1/2 damage. Next farm the scorpion queen for shields, so the girls can wear their bejeweled armor and have some protection. Get hyena fur tassets, boots, gloves and helmet for cold weather. Then one is ready to farm for black blood tools and Obsidian tools are useless. Both can be accomplished before any clan member reaches level 35 or very shortly after level 40 in worst case.
Obsidian is just does not compute.
With blackblood tools, its kinda obsolete to use obsidian anyway…
Also star metals tools had an advantage: Their weight. Thats why most stick with them or blackblood tools.
And the weapons are just really bad, which I dont understand at all. Its the high end material.
Hard to get and its utterly bad for weapons and with blackblood tools (which is obsidian covered in blood) the normal obsidian tools also became obsolete.
PS.: I used obsidian tools until blackblood tools came out. But only repaired them with the master kit. Currently I have >1000 obsidian bars (and >6000 star metal bars).
PPS.: The last time I forged Obsidian bars, I had such a long wait time, that I cleared the dungeon 2 times… Thats what is the most annoying part of it. The time it needs.
Agreed. I like the fact it is a game play loop and makes you "earn"the bars. but the time should be the same speed as having a Purge Smelter in it. TBH, i don’t use obsidian. The effort vs what i could doing with that time is not efficient as well as legendary weapons are way easier to obtain, and better in general. Now the pride of Aesir Gauntlets from Frost Temple is a must craft every time i run for black ice. +2 Str helps my base build out a lot, and has 4 more armor than flawless epic medium DLC’s.
